Is there any way to turn these events off? Some of them alter the game so much that it's ruined. How do you turn off the particularly obnoxious ones?

I also made the colony ship obsolete--and than an anomalous event caused most of the planets to become magically better by a factor of 11. D'oh! The designers might want to work on "un-obsolete"-ing ships in the expansion, or at least giving us a popup window that says "are you sure? You won't get it back..." Talk about frustrating!
I prefer "Outer Space Bloodbath of Shrieking Gore" or OSBSG as a name. Much more catchy, especially to the 14-17 y.o. demo. Boy will they be surprised.
Less micromanagement. woo hooOOOOO!!!
new planet features would change this need or perhaps render it moot. I would appreciate any streamlining of the click-click-click-click-click process. I'm glad others have thought of this, too.
This may have already been discussed, but will GC2 have a search feature to find planets by class? Clicking on every uncolonized planet, especially late in the game, to find out its rating is a bit tiresome. Could the game "remember" which systems we've scouted and focus on planets that meet certain criteria when we want to go back and colonize them later?

during that time (perhaps designating your voting bloc to another civ for the time being?).
