On the same card/driver (5870, Win7 x64, Catalyst 9.11), I'm not seeing that trouble - so it's not pervasive to all 5870s. I did see something similar after running the game for several hours (icons and textures went black), but think that was related to the game running out of memory soon after :) I have same amount of memory - using onboard sound (vs CL), and AMD 940 (vs intel, still quadcore, though). Just to make a point - shutting down Comodo did not help me at all. I had to actually uninstall it completely (at which point things started working again). No, I'm not saying that this is a good thing, just trying to help with debugging.

There's a consumable you can buy (for 100) called the Scroll of Teleporting. Buy one, use it, click on the tower you want to port to. (just tested to make sure I was telling the truth)
After playing for a bit, on exit, my CPU remained higher than usual (usual is 2-5%, it was holding 20-50% cpu usage constant). I rebooted (hey, could be a rogue driver or such), but on reboot, it was still high. Process explorer said it was coming from "System". Took a guess (since the only thing under "System" is smss.exe, the session manager) and went to preferences. Switched my window color scheme from classic to standard, then back to classic... and the extra cpu u
