Since your commentary is so AI-centric, perhaps you should play on tough which runs AI at 100% rather than challenging which handicaps the AI.

This is pathetic. You can't beat the AI so it must be cheating? Search the forum first to see what YOU are doing wrong before laying down your criticisms in such broad strokes.
Duh! It's 1 turn per week. I don't know why I was thinking 1 turn per month. Still a damn impressive feat though. Now if someone can do it in 24-30 turns like I was thinking.... P.S. Suicidal/Gigantic by military conquest in 1 year scores less tha 50,000 points? Now I'm totally confused by how scores are tallied. You'd think it's much, much harder to win earlier versus improving population/economy/influence/military/technology.
So I was looking at the Metaverse high scores and noticed that the current #4 (link) has a couple of games on Gigantic/Suicidal that were won by military conquest in 2-3 years?!! How is that even possible? Especially within 24-30 turns, that's not even enough to research/manufacture sufficiently speedy or long ranged troop transports to cross the galaxy. I'm completely baffled. Any ideas?
Maybe one day they will have fixed them all and can turn their attention to all the incorrect text that has been in the game since it's release. Oh the irony.
Has anyone tried what happens when you surround an enemy planet with your ships? Can they no longer launch, or do their ships just launch to the next closest unoccupied space? I tried this tactic against the DL for the last campaign scenario, but they never launched, and based on what I read here, it might not be because they can't -- it's more likely that they just don't. Anyone tried this tactic elsewhere?
It's all luck of the draw. On the campaign, I have also encountered scenarios where the DL got lucky and got a defense and logistics techs from taking over planets. It's game over after that. No way anyone can go up against 4x 30hp/400atk/150def frigates. I have had that happen to me on at least 2 scenarios during my campaign (but luckily both times I was on the verge of blitzing the last DL planet by that point). Beware of what you wish for.
Whatever you do, please don't become the next Chris Roberts.
I run GC II just fine with everything on except for AA on my Centrino 1.3GHz laptop with 512MB RAM and Radeon 9000 w/ 128MB RAM.
