Well, I'm using V2.03 and it's a direct download from Impulse. I believe this was loaded up from a quicksave but it may have been a fresh game. Since you say that none of these were known bugs, I figure it was, as you said, just something corrupt in the game. I started a new one in hopes that the same sort of thing didn't result. And I'm guessing the lower than expected attack value calculation is also not correct. I'll keep an eye out for it again. <p

You are right that it could happen but the chances are so low that I would consider that something is broken rather than the system actually came up with that result. Let's say the freighter scored a hit every other round (which would the average result). That would combine for a total of 64 rounds (I had 4 ships with 8 hp each). For the first 16 rounds there would be 4 shots, the second round of 16 would have 3, third round of 16 would have 2, and the last

Yeah, I must say that I am also a huge fan of Bioware games. My favorite has always been Jade Empire, which I played on XBox. And I did enjoy Mass Effect, as well, but I haven't played DragonAge or Mass Effect II yet. I will agree that some of the storyline, from Mass Effect, did get a little cheesy but, overall, I still enjoyed the game. I did miss out on KoTOR, though. Not really sure why. It's been on my list of games that I need to buy for ages now.

Alright, well I just decided to play a game of GalCiv II again as I haven't played in quite some time. I loaded up Twilight as I hadn't played this version before, only to come upon some really strange things happening in my game. The first thing that happened was an enemy space station was invisible. I tried to take a defense point only to find that this invisible space station was there. On a reset, it appeared, so not that big of a deal. Next I noticed tha

Alright, I'm pretty sure this is a bug. I can include more information if needed. I'm on the fourth mission of the Dark Avatar campaign. A dread lord battleship comes and starts attacking my homeworlds. I get together a small fleet of 5 small ships to go attack him... Well, he takes the bait and comes right next to my group. The next turn I attack but only 4 of my ships attack, the 5th does not. He, not surprisingly, destroys all of my ships in his attack

I'm sure it's already been said but HOMM 5 was a huge letdown for one major reason - the AI. When I think about it, I don't think I've ever been as disappointed with an AI as with HOMM 5. And what makes it worse is that, outside of this, the game was well made. I gave it a good 6 months of my time waiting for a patch to fix it but, unfortunately, none appeared to fix the AI. Very disappointing.... sold the game on EBay afterwards.

Yes, SC2 rocked! That game even appeals to non-gamers... I have a friend who still loves it and doesn't play games, outside of this one. Although he only liked the combat aspect. The combat was great fun - not too difficult but required skill to get better at. Every ship had strengths and weaknesses...

Well, yeah, first off, you can't stop piracy. It's not possible, period. People who are going to steal are going to steal no matter what you do to try to prevent it. Shadow has a perfect example with DRM. Companies make this high tech solution that only annoys consumers and does nothing to stop piracy. Some consumers won't even buy these games because of it... they are in the minority but they are out there. I think your #1 is a good point but really has
I started a game anew with the same settings as mentioned in the OP. I spended as much as i could in weapon and defense research, and more factories on planets. The entire time in the game i was number one on the "Most powerful civilizations" list, and i kicked some Drengin, Altarian and Arcean ass and won the game My treasury never reached 30k let alone 150k. Economy was good enough for upholding the military and research.<b

Yeah, the dreadlords can be tricky. One thing you have to keep in mind is that you will lose a lot of ships in the beginning before your tech gets high enough that you can start turning the tide. I didn't even bother with setting up starbases, except for the ones they give you, since they would just get destroyed. By the time I was powerful enough to defend them, there really was little need to even build them. In the beginning, just try to keep your planets defended

From what I have heard here, it sounds like you are investing too much in your economy. The fact that you have 150K proves that... My guess, from what you have said, is that you have built too many economical structures and not enough factories and research facilities. Except in the beginning, when you need to buy colony ships so that you can expand quickly, you should rarely be buying structures or ships. You should only be buying them if you are in a real pinch as

Ah, ok, I really do get it now! The wiki was throwing me off by saying that every shot was calculated... I was thinking that when I saw a hit, it was for one weapon, and that's why I was so confused. And so I was trying to work with that and the numbers were making no sense. I guess my exams this week means my head just wasn't as clear hehe Now that I understand what is going on, I am going to stop calculating so much and go back to just enjoying the game... after my
That may be the weapons bonus at work, with the Luck ability adding and insult. If your enamy has weapons +50% and his ship has 5 plasmas (10 total attack), the shot from the first plasma gun will not be 0-2, but likely 0-7 (2 + (bonus 50% of 10 = 5)). If we add into that calculation the Luck, then the first shot could be even from 1.75 (25% of attack 7) to 7. BR, Iztok
Alright, still a bit confused about one thing... why am I consistently seeing very high attack values, especially from my enemy, in combat. The wiki had mentioned that sometimes you will see a high attack number due to bonuses but why am I seeing it all the time? I don't like it when I see 0, 6, 11, 11 and such sequences when the enemy has plasma level 2 beams [e digicons]8C[/e] I'm also getting the impression that researching another line of weapons in order to combat s

Sole, Thanks, I am finally understanding now what is going on. His high defense would explain why tech 3 lasers could work better than tech 2 guns. No more frustration :-)

10 Replies 13,315 Views

Ok, well I fortunately had an autosave of this game right before the battle and had a nearly identical fleet nearby whom I thought would be inferior since they had beam weapons rather than gun weapons. So, I guess I need a clarification about how the mechanics of this game works because it does not work as I had thought. And, if this is covered somewhere else, I appologize. You can just refer me there :-) In the battle, he had 5 ships - 2 frigates,

Hey all, Just got back into GalCiv recently and have just installed Dark Avatar. Had a good game going but now I just stopped and am very frustrated... hopefully, someone can explain why the following has happened. I saw that my soon-to-be enemy had a high amount of shields, so I quickly built up the gun technology to counter this. He eventually declares war on me but I am prepared with a group of ships that already have gun technology. So, I had a fairly l
