Hey everyone - below is the build I'm considering for a new desktop. Please take a look at it and let me know what you think about the parts, areas which may need beefed up, areas which could be toned down and potential conflicts. Just to quickly note a few questions I'm wrestling with - keep in mind I am going to keep this PC for awhile. I had my old one for six years before it crapped out... -Should I get XP or Vista and wait out the issues? -Should I go for duo or quad

Hey everyone - there are two things I want to discuss. First, I am looking for a good company to build a PC for me. I realize that you can get PC parts much cheaper and build one yourself, but I don't have that level of skill. I’ve heard I should not go with Dell, but I would like a decent warranty with the machine as well. I’ve had a horrible experience with IBuyPower. Second, I was wondering what hardware you would recommend, including (but not limited to): -Operating System -

P.S. I apologize in advance for the poor writing, I've got my mind on several other items at the moment!

Hey everyone. I was watching something on TV the other day about the ESRB going on a crazy power trip. For example, Oblivion now receives a "Mature" rating rather than "Teen" because the ESRB found out somebody (meaning ONE person) created a mod which made nude characters. That aggretaved me. This, however, infuriated me. Turns out, the ESRB consists entirely of three people. That's right, three whole people who are affecting an entire industry worth more now than the movie industr

Have any of you played the Europa Universalis series? If not, I strongly recommend it. The reason why I bring it up is I feel like it has (arguably) the best diplomacy model of any strategy game yet. I would like to see greater levels of relations (non-agression pact to peace treaty, defensive pacts, full-blown alliances and so on) in GC. Borders and bans a particular weapons (say biological, for instance) would be good too. What's your opinion on this? Is there another gam

I had a few questions regarding spies in DA. 1. I know the cost of a spy grows in a staggered (or exponential) pattern. What happens if I have five spies and one is "nullified". Does that make the sixth any less expensive? 2. How do YOU know if you're being spied on and do you have to place the agents in that particular region to nullify the enemy operative? 3. I know the more spies you have on a civilization, the more quickly you gather intelligence. Must you co

GalCiv 2 and its expansion pack is glorious. It is the best 4X strategy game set in space since Master of Orion II. We all know this stuff - blah blah blah. But you still CANNOT rename stars and their planets! What is up with this? All these wonderful features, great AI... and this is not in the game? What gives? I don't know why this is so important to me.

I can't find the option to break alliances with minor races in the foreign relations menu or when talking with them. Is this a bug or am I doing something wrong? If I remember correctly, I could do it before... I think. Also, I still can't rename star systems! What gives?

I was just wondering why you can't rename star systems? I can rename the planets but not the star. Is this a glitch or was it just not written into the game? If you can rename stars, how?

GalCiv 2 Development Team & Beta Testers, I just wanted to let you know I think the game kicks ass. It is, without a doubt, the successor to the acclaimed Master of Orion series. I'm excited that the first couple reviews have been very positive and am grateful that you, as a team, are continuing to improve the game. It's a job well done and that's something to be proud of in these days of shotty, half-assed, buggy games. Great work!

A couple things I wanted to know, however. I've started up GalCiv I again and noticed that, at the beginning of the game, civilizations grow immensely fast. It seems like in the beginning all I can do is build colony ships to keep up. This is kind of annoying. Shouldn't colonization go a little bit more slowly to give the game a more epic feel? Also, is there a way to stop other civilizations from trespassing through your space? Is there some kind of border agreement now? <b

Hey everyone, I'm not sure if it's my place to speak here since I'm not a beta tester. However, map size and the "epic" feeling are, I believe, incredibly crucial factors in 4x strategy games. I feel the GalCiv team would be making a mistake if it were to sacrifice a feeling of open space for those with lower-end graphics cards. Granted, you can't bet on everyone having the latest piece of hardware in their PCs, but 32 MB is very out-of-date. Because GalCiv II is a space

I've been following the development of the GalCiv II for quite awhile now. I'm a big fan of GalCiv I and its expansion. I love this game! I think it's the best thing to hit 4x strategy since game series like Civilization and Master of Orion. There are just a few questions / points of criticism I have - maybe you can clear it up for me. First, the planet names seem weird to me - not so much the names but different planet names than wha tthe stars are called. Second - and you may

TrekE- That's exactly what I'm talking about. In games such as GalCiv, the predominant philosophy of a civilization is to conquer - everything is about power. That, of course, is what makes the game fun. But what could make it even more immersive is working in features that create and sustain a balance of power, further enhancing the player's experience. Very good suggestions, also. I really like the idea of partitioning territory ahead of time, chec

One thing that I’ve noticed with every space strategy game (GalCiv included) is that it’s based on a realist’s view of international (or in this case, intergalactic) politics. That is to say, it’s really every empire for itself and the balance of power, ipso facto, in one form or another is the primary driving force behind an empire’s actions. I’ve always wondered why developers don’t run with this and add in a couple more gameplay features
