Reply to Avoiding war in Strategies

Learning to keep the AI off your back when you have a weaker military is a key part of moving up the difficulty chain. You can do it diplomatically by using their strenght against them. Rather than giving them things as gifts - look for a strong civ and bribe it to declare war on a civ that slightly weaker, or a couple of weak civs. You want to civ you're bribing to get into a war that will result in a stalemate. I frequently have anyone with a strong military

Congratulations, Snark! Just wanted to say thanks to KP and the rest of you for all of the tips/hints on the GalCore. I'm not executing anywhere near well enough for a million point game - but by focusing solely on my economy and using the spin control center to keep the AIs off my back, I went from a 11 K 5x5 win to a 29.5 5x5 win. By the middle of the game, I was running all tech. I could have optimized my planets much more - and while

Thanks for the help. Posted two games this weekend, I haven't had any additional problems - I just retire in the first couple of rounds to make sure the game will submit before playing it out. I am amazed by those that can beat this game at Sucidial on the largest galaxy sizes. In my small (5x5) Suicidal game, I carefully avoided war and still had to settle for a technology victory to avoid being destroyed by the Drath. I ended up having to bribe them to destroy thos

Thanks for the welcome! I'm going to start another metaverse game soon and see what happens. I'm enjoying the campaign at apocalypse right now on 'crippling' so it's a good way to work up the difficulty levels. After a rough start, I have the dreadlords bottled up in the upper right hand corner - and they're seemingly on the defense as my allies are sending a constant flow of ships up there. I am allied with the Drath and the Korx in addition to my te

Hello, I just starting playing Galactic Civ 2 - I played the original for very long time so I'm used to submitting games to the Metaverse. I started a Metaverse game and won it today -- and when I got my score the game just exited as if I were playing a non-Metaverse game. I reloaded the end game save game and tried several more times - and nothing seemed to happen. I read about people getting connection errors - but I'm not even getting that or anytype of screen t

Cypher Pax returning for duty, formerly of the Special Forces and GROSS. I'm currently downloading the demo, and assuming it runs acceptably on my laptop I'll be back in business with the real thing... What's up with empires in this game? The forums seem much more subdued... are the rivalaries still there? Any wombat, pengiun, koala, or other ANZAC fauna sightings? Cheers!
