Love the chess analogy. :) I suppose I like to play to win. The most interesting time for me is the middle game where the races are established and balance is relatively even. Once this portion is over I like to win or lose quickly. Mega events draw the game out at a time I just want to finish it so I can start a new one.

Is there a list of the so-called Mega Events? IMO they are way too powerful so in future I will have them turned off. I was playing a really enjoyable game until a couple of events completely changed the course of the game. It sort of seems 'what's the point?!' if some random dice roll can take away all the benefit of your research and construction. First event I had was that the galaxy decided that they didn't like my culture any more. This was just after I had researched the infl

In a recent game the Arceans surrendered to me. They had three planets and I particularly wanted one of the planets. The turn before the surrender I had offered peace terms in exchange for the planet - which they rejected. Next turn they hand over their entire empire. I assume that I had worn down their economy to the point of bankruptcy but it would be good to have an understanding of the algorithm used to make the decision.
When it's time to inspect the map more closely i find it useful to hit 5 and zoom almost all the way to Icons - there they are, the crystals show up permanently with starbases built on them included.
What I've seen is that the icons stay on the map (inside the fog of war after they have been seen) UNTIL their status changes. Eg. Fly past an unoccupied crystal and it will remain seen until someone builds a starbase on it. Or, fly past a crystal with a starbase on it and th
I have a problem with locating Ascension Starbases on the map. My ships scout out the locations initially but the Ascension Crystals aren't permanent fixtures within fog of war on the map, unlike the other Resource Cystals which remain on the map once they have been scouted. I'm in the middle of a game where a race has grabbed a number of them, and even though I had originally located them, I now need to build a fleet of scout ships just to re-discover them again and destroy the starbases
Try running windowed mode. You can set the game to the same res as your desktop/monitor. The only thing this should effect is that alt-tabbing won't crash the game. You can even run it at normal res if you like without all that stretching.
Oh, I love the wide view on the rest of the game. It plays awesomely on wide screen so I wouldn't want to lose that aspect. After the game had crashed (problem 5) I reloaded it and the ship in problem 1 had disappeared.
I started playing TotA this morning and have noticed a few minor issues and one not so minor. 1. In the map I am playing there is an image of a ship in the southern corner decked out with heaps of lasers. The ship doesn't exist in game-space. 2. When scrolling through the starbases after double clicking on one, the forward arrow (>) gets stuck after the first of the starbases that was built. The back arrow works fine. The forward arrow works until it get back to the first starba
Hi all, I have a Wacom Tablet attached to my computer and prefer to use the Wacom mouse. The only problem I have is that the mouse wheel doesn't scroll the map like a normal mouse. Does anyone know what settings I need to change on the Wacom tablet for this to work? Also, when I click the mouse wheel button (with the tablet mouse and also with a normal mouse) it shows my desktop. The game is still running - just minimised. I thought that clicking the middle button was to change
