Star Trek is a popular archetype for ships, and I have to admit I have a weakness for them. Ronin’s are beautiful, as are Axel Kane’s (above). Here are a few I’ve cooked up, which blend Star Trek, Birth of the Federation, and Star Fleet Battles. <span style

A couple of other tricks I saw posted elsewhere: Very fast transports. I used this to take out a Vegan. The first one didn't quite make it (speed 16 wasn't enough). The second one made it and scored me a nice shiny PQ15 world. If you have a mean streak you can use this against the other AIs, of course - let the Pirates clear the room and then send in the fast transports! Another item was an Event where every planet in a system went to PQ10. The 5 planets were just there waiting

Please, no detailed ground combat. I'm perfectly happy deciding big-picture strategy, which is what a turn base game is all about. The last thing I want to do is push around infantry and tanks - sounds like a jittery click fest. Ack. Hydro

Post-game Observations I’ve played a few games with Terrans on a huge map and they mostly end with a diplomatic victory after one or two races are eliminated. I have say I’m not sure if this is a result of my play style or not, but it is kind of spooky how all the races suddenly love me once my military starts an asymptotic rise and one or more races are under my heel. But then, if my neighbor was huge and (on occasion) aggressive I’d likely play nice, too. It has been commente

January 2232 Admiral Chin sat at a grand table within an ornately decorated hall with the actual leaders of the Korx, Altarians, Iconians, Yor, Arceans, and even the Drengin. The Korx was resplendent in his jewel-bedecked robe and was busy chatting with the Iconians, who had lucrative mutual trading relationships. To the left the Altarian Resistance Leader was trying to carry on a conversation with the Yor, who looked rather ill at ease among the organic beings. A sly smile by the Altar

February 2231 The destroyers Tempest and Prairie were in close formation as they approached the home world of the Scottlingas. Both ships had the signature saucer forward hull of the Terran Alliance in Beta Quadrant. Each saucer bristled with level three plasma beams, which were energized. There were no shields and no armor on the functional ships, which had one purpose – raw firepower. The intentions of the two ships were by now very clear to the Scotlingas, sin

Not quite sure, but it wasn't too long. I have the autosave set to every 4 turns. I'll likely play the game through. I'll just lose the benefits of being neutral. Hydro

In my most recent game as Terrans I researched Xeno Ethics, picked Neutral and went on with the game. Shortly afterward tabbed out and GC2 crashed. When I restarted from an autosave I found I didn't have an alignment and couldn’t pick an alignment of any sort even though Xeno Ethics was complete (and I purchased Harmony Crystals). <?xml:namespace prefix =

I’m a long time fan of Star Fleet Battles, which I started playing back in the first release in the early 1980s. I mainly played the Kzinti, but love the Feds, too. The GC2 ship designer is great fun. I was inspired to create a few ships based (loosely) on SFB. I see you have the Feds ironed out. Here are a few images of the ships I’ve used in ToA. I’ve played a number games with ToA, mostly at Painful level. ToA is great, but one item in particular is puzzling: why do some of the AI’s refuse to build a military? In essentially all of the 6 games I’ve taken to the end one or more of the AIs has either build no military or did so very late (and when they were already dead). The key offenders here I’ve noticed are the Drath and Altarians, and sometimes the Tha
Did you mess around with the terran hp boosting techs? Integrity grids are fantastic.... if a bit expensive to build!
Can't say I got that far. The few Terran ToA games I've played so far were wrapped up (~2231) before I could spend time with warp bubbles (fleets weren't big enough) or energy grids or any of that cool stuff. Games go pretty quickly on medium and large maps. Anyone had a chance to play with those goodies? Hydro

I just got GC2: ToA and fired up my first game. Overall I love the look and feel, although I have to say that the Terrans feel largely the same (no surprize based on what I've read on the boards). However, I tabbed out to answer an e-mail and when I tried to get back in I got an "Invalid Call" popup and the game dumped me to my desktop. I haven't had this type of crash before. Hydro

I'm upgrading my PC to a spiffy new duel core rig (the HD is formatting as we speak). Do I need to do anything special to tranfer my registration, or do I simply install GalCiv2 DL, DA and soon-to-be-purchased TA to my new PC? I poked around the posts and didn't see anything that seemed to apply. Thanks! HydroAC

MrRadical, I’m pleased you found the AAR to be instructive! I always learn a lot and they are fun to write, even if they take a bit of time. I wrote a number of other AARs along the same line for other races back in February and March. If you’re interested they’re summarized in the collection of AARs and stories at the Nov 17th thread by Stormweaver. Cheers! Hydro

No I haven’t played KA. I assume that is a computer game? SFB was originally a (rather complicated) strategic board game that was launched in 1979 or so. I don’t know how the publishers of SFB got to use Niven’s Kzin. Maybe they snagged the rights before Niven really knew what he had. Anyway, all the later iterations (including the computer version, Star Fleet Command) of SFB were Kzin-less since Niven wised up. The game is almost dead now. Pity. I’ll wait on the sidelines an
