Oh, I should probably have mentioned that I was playing as Terrans, if that's relevant.

Ok, I just got the TA beta. I started a new game, with random opponents. Much to my surprise, I discovered that I was teamed with the Torians. I don't think teams should be possible with random opponents, no? I also experimented and noticed you can start a game teamed with all the other races. You win at the end of turn 1. :)

Wait, I'm a bit confused. I thought that the Drath were one of two races that were supposed to be removed from future Galciv games. Has this plan be changed? Note: I realize that TA, as an expansion pack, still contains the Drath. But the removal was motivated by an event in the DA campaign, whose impact seems to have been changed by the above information, and I'm wondering if this means that the Drath will/can be in Galciv III. (I hope I managed to balance clarity and non-spoilerness

Look, there's several types of considerations here - 1. Is getting Vista now a good idea? The answer is an unqualified no; I wouldn't bother getting it until I know for a fact that at least some of the early issues (those mentioned above and those which will only be discovered once people start using it en mass) are resolved. 2. Will getting Vista later be a good idea? Maybe. Depends on what MS actually does to resolve the above-mentioned issues. 3. Is Vista good for g

In my latest game, I turned off super abilities. I was playing as the Thalans; while I didn't get speeded up factory building, it certainly looked like I have an expanded range (I started out in the center of a medium galaxy, and my colony ship could reach practically everywhere).

The latest version of DA I see is 0.20.026, i.e. beta 2. I have not seen 2A, but I figured I'd wait and see if the next update shows up - but 2B clearly doesn't. I tried uninstalling DA but that didn't help. I tried re-registering it, and it also didn't help. I tried unchecking "show pre-releases" and rechecking it. No help. What should I do to get the update?

As I mentioned in my original post, I am reporting something that happens to me under Beta 2 (and if there was more than one version of Beta 2, I seem to have the latest). In fact, it never happened to me under Beta 1, but since I had crash issues with beta 1 I may just never have played a long enough game to see them.

well, the dread lords aren't acting incredibly intelligent. Mostly they mine asteroids and don't research anything. A bit more detail - the dread lords do not appear on the list of available civilizations, but if I choose random races (as I usually do), they almost always end up as one of the races.

Ever since I updated to beta 2, I've been getting the dread lords as one of the major races. I'm assuming that's not intentional.

Does anyone else but me think that the asteroids are just too big? I know the game doesn't play with a consistent scale, but it's weird to have the asteroids be larger than some planets. Could the graphic be scaled down? Keep everything the same just make it 25% smaller or something. I think that will look a lot better.

These sound really cool. I do agree that some of them sound unbalanced (though I think playtesting is the only way to really find out). Specifically, super breeders sound underpowered - 4x population growth is great, but maintaining 100 approval rating is pretty difficult early in the game (at least to a mediocre player like me) so this power will only kick in in the late game, when population growth is less important. Maybe stagger the bonus (i.e. 80% approval gets 2x growth, 90% gets

I'm in the "I never saw the attractiveness of the epic generator to begin with" crowd. It seems to me like I would look at the epics for a game or two and after that never use the feature again. Not because I don't like making up epic stories out of my games, but because I do, but I like making them up *myself*, in my own head. It's just not a feature I want automated. I know it appeals to many people, and it certainly wouldn't have been a negative feature to have, but it shouldn't come

Reply to A freeze in Beta Reports

I'll do it as soon as I can, which probably means tonight.

I only played a few turns of DA so far rather than a whole game, but I colonized a planet that had two 300% research bonuses on the same (standard habitable) planet, and another planet that had a moral bonus square. So even if the amount of bonus tiles was reduced it's not 0.

After playing for about 10-15 minutes the game froze at the beginning of a turn. I didn't do anything special, just pressed "end turn", and the mouse cursor vanished and didn't return after about 4-5 minutes so I rebooted the computer. I realize that this is probably a totally useless bug report, but I figure that you might be interested to hear anyway, if only to know there's a potential problem. I'm playing in 1600x1200 resolution, by the way, and another problem I experienc

I think that's a very interesting observation, but I take one issue with it - namely, group 2 isn't a homogenous group. What's intuitive to one person is not necessarily intuitive to another. For example, I prefer an intuitive style of gameplay as well - I almost never look at the numbers, never look at the tech tree, just go by my gut feeling and experience. That means I'm slower to master the games but I have (I think) more fun doing so. Still, in the particular case of social -> military spen

I just had the game crash on me in a planetary invasion. This is with the most recently updated version. I was playing the Thalans, and was invading the Yor, using Information Warfare. The screen went black, then the invasion screen reappeared, then it went black again, and crashed to desktop. This was not the first invasion in this game, the previous ones worked perfectly (i.e., no black screens, and clearly no crashes). This was the first time I used an option other

I had a savegmae (imaginatively called "1") which was a campaign save. After getting crushed in the campaign, I decided to start a normal game. When I reached a point I wanted to save, I figured I could just overwrite that save since I was going to have to restart the campaign mission anyway. Unfortunately, the game still thinks "1" is a campaign save game (you can see this by the bottom of the loading screen), while it isn't. If I try to load it, GalCiv 2 crashes to desktop. It nev

After my last non-planetbound ship was destroyed by the Drengin, I didn't have an "end turn" button. I had to launch a ship from one of my planets, which meant leaving it with less defence.
