I didn't count on it leaving me without access to patches Why can't you use SDC? If you don't have internet at home, you can still use SDC to download the latest versions elsewhere and archive them to take home; all you need is access to a net-connected machine where you have permission to install SDC (friend/family/work/etc), and a USB drive or burner to get the files home with. [quote However, there will be a free update in a month or so to version 2.0 that I believe you will be able to download without using SDC. [/quote] That'd be fine if true. I have no problems with delayed patches. A complete absence of patches though is something else.
This is starting to suck, big time. While I respect Stardocks problems with software piracy I didn't count on it leaving me without access to patches ... I'm guessing that TotA and their upcoming 'Empires of Magic', or whatever it's going to be called, will probably be updated in similar fashion?
Is there a downloadable patch 1.8x out yet? ie: something that I can get to without going through SDC ...
Ok. Done. I'm now in the queue. One more question ... How do I actually register the serial # with stardock. My account shows my existing GC2 key but there dosn't seem to be any option to add a new key for the gold version? cheers
Um. That didn't seem to work too well. I think I'd included the serial # in the installation process so I guess I didn't get a prompt. Tried the update serial # option in the startup window and re-entered it but then after it seemed to start doing something it didn't seem to get any further. The update game option does let me enter my email address but doesn't seem to have any option but to connect through SDC ... ?
Ta muchly. Will give it a try when I get home.
Just got around to installing GC2 Gold the other day and I seem to be having problems with the activation. IIRC Dread Lords required you to run activate.exe, output the file to an email, send it to stardock and await a response. Activate.exe in my DA Gold edition doesn't seem to do anything. Am I doing the right thing? cheers
Picked up GC2-Gold the other day and it only seems to have a single registration key. Does this mean that I have to uninstall my existing GC2 (with a different key) before installing? Yes, you can't install Dark Avatar seperately overtop your old game with the Gold edition, they both get installed at the same time. So your previous copy will have to go. Incidentally, the single code is
Picked up GC2-Gold the other day and it only seems to have a single registration key. Does this mean that I have to uninstall my existing GC2 (with a different key) before installing? Also a (non-sdc) downloadable GC2:DA patch in the near future would be nice ...
Mmmmm. I was afraid of that. I hate to think of how many editions of GC2 I'll have by the time Stardock has finished releasing expansions ... Galciv2 Gold, Galciv2 Platinum, Galciv2 Diamond, Galciv2 Iridium, ... Oh well, at least that article seems to imply that the expansion will be a bit bigger ...
Does that suspiciously retail-box-like image, seemingly with the words 'Dark Avatar' on it, posted on the main page a couple of days ago, mean that DA will now be sold through normal retail outlets and not just via download? Please say yes ...
Activated my copy of GC2 a month or so ago by email. Everything seemed to work without a problem. Then I had a few problems with my hard disk that resulted in a reformat (Non GC2-related). Have reinstalled GC2 and put the file thingummy file back but it now gives an error message along the lines of ... 'Product validated but serial # or machine SID don't match' Do I need to go through the activation process again? The only details I entered in last tim
