I'm been playing various games waiting for the problems of E:TW to be sorted out (EU3, Elven Legacy, and Gothic 3, which I am giving another chance in the wake of the recently released massiver community patch). Accodring to the devs, who have been posting daily on the official forums, the next major gameplay patch is in final beta testing and should be released shortly, which I would guess to be early next week barring problems. They are planning more gameplay patches and are also apparently
If there is a quantity aspect then you are correct - if quality alone is the criteria then they should defeintely be considered. Also, by quality I do not simply mean the original product - stardock are one of the best for long term support of their games. There are very few others who come close in my experience.
Well, I specifically addressed this issue in my post. One game would be enough, if it's good
Sid was one of the founders of Microprose. It was indeed a publisher, but also developed games, including the Sid Meier-developed Civilization. However, the three subsequent Civ games (as well as the classic Civ "sequel" Alpha Centauri) were developed by others, although Meier's name was part of the official title (I believe this is true with the other Firaxis games as well). Judging from press reports over the years, my impression is that Sid serves as an idea man, ultimate pl
Majesty 2 would be an instant pre-order as well, guaranteed.
Earlier this year, Swedish developer/publisher Paradox, probably the game company most analogous to Stardock (complete with its own proprietary digital download store), announced that it would publish (though not develop) Majesty 2 next year. I believe the developer is a Russian company. For those unfamiliar with Paradox, they are best known as
It should be rejected for being FPS style instead of true to the original games and style that made the series popular! I could stand to see government interaction here - Bethesda should be fined for ruining Fallout.I really can't see myself buying this Oblivion expansion, err, Fallout Abomination.
My sentiments exactly. Fallout 3 will likely have great graphics and may, or may not be fun to a certain extent. But it is certain that Fallout 3, like Oblivion, will be a shoo
I voted for the fantasy TBS a while ago, though a Stardock RPG might also be intriguing, assuming it was in the nature of a "traditional" RPG (e.g., Ultima, Wizardry, Bard's Tale, Might & Magic, Baldur's Gate, Arcanum) and not yet another action game with RPG trappings. From my point of view as a TBS/RPG fan, either of these are far more needed than Gal Civ III, given that Gal Civ II has plenty of life in it at this point. However, from Stardock's financial viewpoint, a Gal Civ III might (probab
Wow. In one paragraph you pretty much said that all modern RPGs are bad.
I guess I was imprecise. I absolutely meant to say that almost all "modern RPGs" are bad. Indeed, almost all "modern RPGs' are not RPGs at all in the sense that term had prior to, say, 2000. A very small number are mediocre (NWN, though it is still pretty much a traditional RPG) or even good (The Witcher, but still too action oriented for my tastes). That's my opinion and I recognize that I am in a
Pardon me if my reaction is less than excitement. Yeah, I've played Diablo 1 and II, they were so-so at best. I particularly remember playing Diablo I, which I bought because it was marketed and reviewed as an RPG, and thinking how in the world anyone could describe this soulless action game as an RPG? While there are certainly other factors (cough, consoles, cough), Diablo is probably as large a factor as any other in destroying real RPGs and turning most of them them into Diablo-like action, l
There are plenty of threads on this, a new one was unnecessary, but here is a brief summary of my previous posts on the matter. 1. GeneralEtrius is ncorrect. We have been assured multiple times by Stardock that Brad is working on an updated manual. There is a .pdf maual included with the ToA package entitled Twilight of the Arnor Manual, but it is merely the old Gold Edition manual with a new cover page. This is annoyingly deceptive even if you think, as I do, the deception is not inten
One thing I'd like to know is how to remove the toolbar Impulse places at the bottom of my screen (and pops up whenever my cursor wanders down there). The program informed me of this after installation, never offered me the option not to install it, and, at first glance, I see no way to remove it. I don't plan on using Impulse very often (only to update GalCiv and Sins) and the icon on my desktop is more than sufficient. I find this most annoying both on principle (no option or readily apparent
We are looking into the ToTA not showing installed issue. We will have a fix shortly. Please do not reinstall/uninstall ToTA.
Oops, too late, already reinstalled. Would this hurt anything? I did not reinstall the 1.92 alpha though, figure I will just wait for 1.95 rather than introduce any further complications.
... Yeah. I know that post wasn't actually witty enough to be repeated twice.
Not to worry. Tweaking the pomposity of that poster deserves repeating. BTW, I had no idea what that guy was talking about, what in heaven's name his stated profession is, or what any of his many acronyms stand for. Nevertheless, I still know self-aggrandizing BS when I smell it.
The idea wasn't bad, but the implementation was funky. Say I'm researching Tech A and Tech B, Tech A taking 5 turns, and Tech B taking 6 turns. I do Tech A first, and once finished, I notice Tech B now takes 15 turns!! Sure looks like a bug. Now that I know it's not though, it's still a hassle 'cause you can't really predict it (at least not without doing calculations). It would probably be fine if you could keep tabs on the inflation; that way you can plan for it and get your most import
Seriously, Fluxx? Seriously? After the hellish crunch to get PM2008 done (multiple all nighters - which we've posted about) we decide to spend our first free weekends on 3 months on GC2 bug fixing (bugs that, may I add, can't be that game breaking, with TotA rating an average score of 95%) and you come up with that post? Enough of that brand of trolling will certainly kill our drive to make the game better. Go away before you ruin it for players that appreci
Another question does 'twilight' come with a manual when you order it with the CD. will this be sold in stores, and what stores?
No printed manual. You do get a .pdf manual. However, although it is titled "Twilight of the Arnor", it is (in a deception that should shame Stardock) the same manual from the Gold collection (which was a DA updated version of the original manual, which did come printed in the original GalCiv2: The Dread Lords physical box). Although a ToA manua
If you don't have the original GalCiv2 game, and want both DA and ToA, you'll need to purchase option 1, the Ultimate Expansion Bundle. This is the cheapest way to get the base game and both expansions. The $50 expansion bundle, with DA and ToA, will not work unless you already have original GalCiv2. The DA expansion, alone or in the Expansion Bundle, does not include the original game.
At times I have seen no edit button on a brand new post, so I can verify what the opening OP states. TBH, I don't find these forums user friendly in general. For example, there is no preview feature (unless I am missing it), the quote function does not state which poster you are quoting, and the reproduction of the opening post on each page of a multi-page thread is annoying (and unnecessary), especially for a long post with graphics. Edit--OK, the edit button was there
For me, theres not much reason to go back to SMAC, especially because the graphics have aged seriously now, especially against Twilight. Diplomacy in SMAC was realy good and still is pretty okay, the use of spies is the only feature i can think of that SMAC does better than GC2 even today!
I disagree with most of this. After reading another recent thread on SMAC, I reinstalled the game (I don't have SMACX and am not paying $100+ for it) and have been playing a bit. It's s
Don't forget too, the Firaxis has a whole team of people to work on these things. Gathering from a post by one of the developers recently, Stardock, as least for the Vanilla GalCiv II had like 6 people. And it still beats the pants of everything not made by Sid or the old Microprose. And while some games do come with nice detailed manuals (which I do appreciate) many other strategy games don't. Don't fault Stardock for not throwing in expensive and time-consuming extras that many bigger co
A manual really wouldn't cover that sort of thing in any significant depth either way; it's not a strategy guide.
I really have to take issue wiht this statement. Indeed, it really annoys me. Readily providing the various tech trees (the most ballyhooed of the new TA features) either in a manual or ingame is not the function of a strategy guide; indeed, it is frivolous to so suggest IMO. The lack of this information has been a thorn in my side all through beta. Like other
Frogboy's post is not altogther wrong, but his tone, and the gleeful Objectivist tone of most of the commenters, makes me want to take a shower. Or maybe replay Bioshock to see the consequences of unchecked capitalism run wild. There's few events in gaming more satisfying then going upside the head of Bioshock's smug, hypocritical Ayn Rand stand-in, Andrew Ryan (though I wish it was interactive rather than a cut scene).
All the while that pc gaming is making original games, indie games, consoles have nothing but the same old crap filling them.If anything is gonna die, it's gonna be consoles.
LOL. And George Bush thinks the US doesn't torture and is winning in Iraq. The capacity for self deception cannot be underestimated. As an old time PC gamer I really wish you were right. The console market (and I do some gaming on the PS3, though it is primarily used as a Blue-ray player) is killing
I traded for the "Barren World colonisation" tech with a minor Race. But after that I cannot colonize barren worlds at all.
Do you have Advanced Colonization, which is a prerequisite for the specific colonization techs? I may be wrong, but while you can trade for any tech, I don't think they are useable until you research or trade for all earlier prerequisite techs.
I may have found a bug in 6a. Although the game no longer calls non-core starbase modules (i.e., defense and sensor modules on an economic/mining/influence base) ascension modules, as per your change log, it now no longer permits you to build them at all. This was in a beta 6 save game (which did load as promised) playing Terrans, if it makes any difference.
