I'd like to play a map with a large number and a high density of starts. I haven't been able to find a map generator for this. For example, the built-in map of "immense" with "abundant" stars has about 200 stars in a grid of 22 by 22 for a density of of 0.4 star/sector, a "large" is 100 stars in a grid of 10 by 10 for 1 star/sector, and "tiny" is about 20 stars in 3 by 3 for a density of 2 stars/sector. There is no possbility, however, to do 2 stars/sector in a grid of 22 by 22, for
My first question is with factories, at first I didnt really see much use for them but now I do use them. If a planet doesnt have a starport and all improvements are already built then are the factories useless?
You still might hang on to some factories. For example, once you need to turn all of your Advanced Market Centers into Banks when you get the new tech, you'll be happy to have those factories on planets.

Yes, Civ IV is very good game. In no particular order, very good games include GalCiv II (inc. Arnor), Civ IV (inc. BTS expansion along with some fan enhancements like FFH2 and Revolutions), HOI2 with doomsday, and EU3. OK, actually, I guess that this is the order of my recommended list. I rotate among these games.

LUCK is one of the best ways to win the game. Get yourself +50 LUCK and you're the one to get the Rangers. The first Ranger you get is this superpowered ship that devastates everything. All you need is that ranger and a fleet of transports. Go, go, go. You also get follow-on rangers but they're second-class compared to that first ranger. As a result of this "you will win" approach, I no longer set myself up with +50 luck. En

Not sure how AI reacts in Arnor to build up of ships, but in Avatar I often get messages to the effect of: "dude, we've decided to declare war on you because you've got a nearby transport". I haven't seen this explicit mesage in Arnor, but I play on the higher levels, so perhaps the AI is just not telling me (back to that message about "intellgient" generals). The AI seems somewhat arbitrary at times in its DoW on me (not 100% arbitrary since evil, neutral, good alignment is respected) but AI

Kenstar, here's my take on the issues. "All of the AI declares war on you" is a sign of your success. [e digicons][/e] I now plan on this event to occur. What's the key to victory in such a situation? In Dark Avatar, it is military starbases. However, these have been moved to a very high technological expense in Arnor and therefore the starbase strategy is basically (unfortunately) removed from the game (anyone else have this feeling?

Yes, that's a good suggestion, and I did give the "disband fleet" a try but the ships still aren't there. I can "find them" in two places: on the economy screen, I can decomission them (this is what I ended up doing and then just kept playing the game). I can also find them on the list of ships/planets. If I "zoom" to the ship from that list, I am taken to an empty location (i.e., where the ship should be!). [e digicons]:(O[/e]

When disease megaevent occurs, all abilities including logistics are lost. So what happens to fleets? If you click on them, there are no ships. OK, I thought to myself, not to worry, after I cure the disease, my ships will come back. That is where the bug comes in. I have cured the disease and I still have 6 fleets that have no ships, i.e., "0/17" for logistics. I can't seem to get my ships back, although they are still present in the military pow
I'll set up a game under the settings with the research/build strategy you describe, and see how it works out. I do think that the Yor should have their own version of all the mining modules (which they will), and I do think that they should have something they can do with influence starbases. However, I do see how Isolationist + the ability to spread influence willy-nilly could be a bit overpowered (especially after I turned the middle of the map into a swamp with warp interdict
No, I disagree - the inability to build up manufacturing/tech boosts on economic starbases? That's a hole. The inability to build up resource starbases? That's a hole. The inability to build up influence starbases? That's a hole too. While I can understand having a weakness for one of those (influence), not being able to effectively use three out of the five available options for starbases cuts a large chunk of the game out of your options. The economics are weak enough that you

Phaedyme wrote: "I've been playing the Yor, and their tree is just full of holes. No warp bubbles, very little resource mining, very little for influence starbases. Still playable, but my terror star is annoyingly slow." I also having been playign the Yor, but my thinking is that these aspects of the tech tree are 'features'---rather than 'holes'---of Arnor. Economics for Yor are also weak. To get what I want I have to trade with other races that don't care much for me. I have to give

Noxxle, just my two cents, but I an enjoying the beta. It seems pretty complete to me. Missings races are Thalans and Altarians. This still allows me to have a full suite of 9 competitors on my immense map. I do read reviews before getting a new game, after having wasted lots of time on bad games over the years. I basically do not buy or touch a game unless it is a pretty good review on gamespot with lots of nice feedback on a vendor site like Amazon. So: trying to make mysel

Since my last post with 75 min of experience with Arnor, I have now gained about 600 min more of experience. I am really appreciating the new tech trees for the different races. Besides new techs, existing techs are moved around in creative ways. For example, for the Torian, the starbase assist-ship techs are all lined up AFTER starbase fortification, which has a 13000 final tech in it ("very slow" tech rate setting in my game on immense map). This basically means that before the Torian can get

OK, just downloaded Twilight of the Arnor. Played on IMMENSE as Terran for about 60 min. Then, switched into a new game with my personal favorite of Korath Clan for 15 min (you get the idea of the kind of game I like to play...). I'll give you my first impressions. Now, this is from someone who has played GalCiv I, then II, then Dark Avatar (and also Civ I, II, III, and IV). That gives you the calibration of the kinds of games I like and the perspectives I bring. Basically, I like the s

Rogue, that was a very informative post. Thanks. Since my last post, I did a little homework since I have Advanced espionage status. The race in question is the Arcean. I now have 9 of their planets with skull and bones, and I played another 10 turns. Still no planet flipping. The loyalty bonus of Arcean is 3%. I also checked approval. A few of the planets are at 100%. However, one planet is at 52% approval and still doesn't flip. It seems to me that

I had an amazing random event where my planet quality doubled. Now, the initial planet was 18. Yes, folks, the new planet was 36!

So, what gives: I have seven enemy planets with skull and bones over them, I have the Mind Control Center, and I have been waiting 25 turns. No rebellions. Can someone explain what's going on here? [Notes: I started this game in V [b4] and I have just upgraded to V1.1. I'm continuing the same game. In the game when under V [b4], I had about 7 planets rebel to my empire. Since upgrading, no more planets have rebelled in these last 25 turns. I'm not sure if the upgrade is the

I made some constructors of 25 movements points. Everything worked great for many turns. Then, the United Planets voted for a **minimum** constructor speed of 5. So, what happens? In the turn of their fabrication, the constructors have movement of "25/5" and zip across the galaxy. After their first turn of the life, the movement of the constructors drops to "5/5". It seems I will have to wait 150 turns for the minimum speed edict

What is unforunate, though, is that if you haven't built your capital yet, then you lose your captial. Example: I was waiting for a good planet to make my own manufacturing capital. In the meanwhile, I conquered a planet that had a manufacturing capital. As a result, I could no longer build my own. Lesson learned: build my own first (or at least get it into the building queue) before conquering enemy's.

I can get ship assist +1 attack and it works fine. I continue to research technologies and think I should have some more ship assists available. For example, I have researched "projection". Yet, when I bring in more constructors, I do not have any more ship assist (attack) options. What gives? Do I have to build some prerequesite modules before I can get higher level of assists? I am in big war with Drengin on TOUGH le

I'm very glad to know this fix is coming, too. I have been dealing with the same on the gigantic map. Also needed is a better way to know that enemy ships are around and about and need to be dealt with. Perhaps an option to "flash" enemy ships on the minimap. As it is, I have to painstakingly squint and look throughout the minimap. Also in the minimap would be a better option for locating minable resources. They seem to be what's

Ditto from me on all of above. Making fleet manipulation easier should be a top priority in the next update. I'm very surprised the beta testers didn't comment on this one. Another good addition would be to bring back a "sweep" command so that one can patrol for enemy ships. Also needed is the ability to call out enemy ships that enter the empire's sensor active area. Each turn, right now I have to squint a lot at the minimap to t
