It would be nice to see something different, like a Victorian-age space game with steam powered space ships. That genre has been done already in a pen-and-paper RPG, but no computer game that I know of. It was called Space 1889 .

I'm downloading the SE:V patch right now. As compensation for being one day late, the patch is at v1.08, with even more bugfixes. In terms of scale, I will expect Dark Avatar to fetch coffee and massage my feet since Stardock pushed the release date back by several months . FWIW: I have already pre-ordered DA for myself. But I'll be playing SE:V while I wait for the release...

The solution to the problem is simple: Do not rely on ONE ship to survey anomalies. Research Sensors early in the game; Sensors enables the Survey module. Once you have Sensors, go into the Shipyard, select a Cargo hull and add three Hyperdrives, two life support and a Survey module. Buy two or three of these ships, then turn them loose on Auto-Survey. Not only will this reduce the sting of losing a ship through a wormhole, but you'll scoop up 2-3 times as many anomalies as
