Don't get me wrong, all the AI and gameplay tweaks are great. But as update after update comes out with no changes to the UI (other than underlining for hyperlinks), I'm starting to feel a bit ignored. Now I can certainly appreciate that UI changes might take longer to code and test (some of them, anyway -- I don't see how hard it can be to save the music volume setting so I don't have to change it every single time I load a saved game). If that's the case, and they're in the works, f

I agree with travathian. Far more important to me in the immediate future than spiffy new features are fixes to make the game more playable, primarily UI fixes. SAVE the music volume, SAVE the way I have my planet list, mini-map and technology list set up, so I don't have to do all that each and every time I load a saved game. Make [Enter] work in dialogue boxes. Put a scroll bar in the technology screen. Make each function key a toggle, so I can press it once to act

A small thing, but: when you press F9, you get the tactical screen. When you press F9 again, it goes away. The other function keys should perform like this as well.

I don't have an SB Live gameport in my Device Manager. I'm not trying to alt-tab out except when nothing's happening in the game. This is on a desktop system. I am very gratified, however, to see that Stardock is trying to help me, especially since I seem to be in the minority in having this problem. How many other companies would say something other than "make sure you have the latest drivers"?

I'm sorry, Brad, but there's a problem with 1.03 -- at least for me. I had no problems at all prior to 1.03. I did a re-install and then got only the 1.03 patch. Same thing. I will intermittently hang when alt-tabbing out or quitting the game normally. Sometimes the error message mentions IExplorer, which is a tad bizarre. I'm using no user mods. I installed DirectX 9 from the CD. System specs (yeah, I know): P3 866, 512 meg RAM, SB Live, GeForce 256 (DDR). Going

My issue as well is alt-tabbing. I was wrong in my other post, it has nothing to do with being online or using IE. I'm getting intermittent hangs when either alt-tabbing out or quitting the game. We're talkig total system lockup, reset button time. I'm did a reinstall (from CD) and I'm now getting 1.03 (and only that) again. We'll see.

Since I'm not seeing any messages about it, I'm guessing I'm the only one having this problem. Prior to 1.03, I could Alt-Tab out of GC and check the boards no problem. I can be online and playing GC. I can be online and using IE. What I can't do apparently is use all three. My system hangs and only a hard reboot will work. This happens whether I'm trying to start the game with an open browser or if I alt-tab out with an open browser. I have version 6.0.26 of IE and Windows 98SE.

Sorry, I didn't read the whole thread, but I have a problem. Suddenly, some of my icons (the ones along the bottom of the screen that correspond to the function keys and the Menu icon on top) have turned whitish-blue. Neither quitting the game nor rebooting appears to get rid of the problem. It doesn't affect game-play at all, but it's disconcerting nonetheless and I really preferred the old look. Anyone else seen this?

Could we have an "always autolaunch" option on the options screeen which we can then override manually on a planet-by-planet basis? Sometimes I forget to check that little box every time I get a new planet and I lose track of ships.

"That's the confusing part - I study the economy screen in-depth and it says I have a net income of 100." If it says, over to the top right, Net Income: 100, then yes your treasury should be increasing by 100 a turn. When are you checking this? Don't check it at the beginning of your turn. For some reason I don't quite understand, it changes over the course of your turn. Check it just before you hit next turn. There's really no direct relation between Tax Rate and Spend Rat

Another UI thing. When going into the tactical map (which you're going to give me a hotkey for, right? :) ), bag the guy telling you this is the tactical map. I KNOW it's the tactical map; I'd much rather have the ship description that usually goes in his place. If you insist on the guy, make him go away when tutorial mode is turned off. This is too good a game to have anything less than a superlative UI.

Two times now in my current game a planet has suddently gone to a morale of 1. In both cases, I think it was a planet I'd taken from another civilization. There are good quality planets who had had at least a decent morale the turn before. What's going on here? Is some other civilization trying to destabilize me?

Yes, I agree with the previous post. When I'm doing my end-of-turn production, I'd MUCH rather see the mini-map so I know where the planet is than the list of planets in that system.

According to the graph at the right on the main screen I'm way ahead of the others in technology, but according to my stats screen I'm in 4th or 5th place in technology. Which one is right?

If it's already been suggested, sorry, but I'd like to see more things saved in the save game. Someone else mentioned the music volume. In addition to that, I'd like to see the current magnification and buttons selected on the mini-map and the current sorting order of the planet and technology screens saved. Should be pretty easy to do and would get rid of a minor annoyance when loading a saved game.
