Pardon for me for a newbish question. I thought I read somewhere that one could have dozens of opponents in GalCiv3. When I chose a Huge galaxy, though, all I could manage was five opponents. Did I miss an option somewhere? Thanks in advance.

I didn't see my pet peeve on the list, so I hope it's OK if I mention it here. Is there a keyboard way to select a city if a city is not currently selected? As far as I can tell, there isn't; I wish the "select next city" button would select a city if I currently have, say, a unit or enemy selected. (I think we can select a unit from the keyboard, even if one isn't already selected, but I haven't played in a couple days and can't remember for sure.) Also, the next-ci
On number 7, the game centers over the city that's upgrading, so if you look to the bottom of the screen, you can see what the city produces -- gildar, tech, arcane, etc. I find this is enough info to help me decide on a specialty. Granted, it's not as clear as it could be, but it's OK.
I'm also really enjoying it. I'm not having any crashes or performance trouble, and the gameplay is addictive. :) Glad to hear I'm not alone.
1.05 has made great strides on keyboard shortcuts. The numpad key now works pretty well for unit movement, and TAB works well for selecting and then cycling through units. Unless I'm mistaken, though, selecting and cycling through cities is somewhat more difficult. Shift-C will select a city, but only if one is idle; otherwise I can't find a way to select a city with the keyboard if a unit or other non-city object is already selected. Likewise, PgUp/PgDown do cycle thr
I also would like a list of what cities are building what -- like the Colonies screen in GalCiv.
Thanks for the help! I'm guessing the answer on city-shortcuts is: they don't exist, yet. For now, I can make do with Shift-C and pagedown/pageup, but I hope Stardock improves on those.
Thanks! I found the screenshots. I guess I'll have a closer look at my sovereign's character-screen to find the "enchantment slots." On question 1, I think you may have thought I was asking about shards. I meant the clear-white crystals found at crags. What do they do for me? Finally, is there a way to select/cycle through cities, even if a unit (or any other object) is currently selected?
I'm having fun with Elemental! It's much improved since Beta 4. But three questions: 1. What do crystals do? I'm accumulating them, but I don't know why. 2. What are "enchantment slots"? How do I acquire them? 3. The manual says PrintScreen takes a screenshot, but I can't find any screenshots in my game folder. Am I looking in the wrong place? Pasting into Photoshop produced an all-black screen. 4. EDIT: one more. I kno
Good post, Brad. And thank you for making a fun game.
My starting colony is hemmed in by a rival city and water. I don't have the Navies tech yet, and there's only one square of water separating me from freedom. I tried the "raise land" spell on it, and indeed it turned from water to land -- and even spawned a quest location on it. But I can't move onto it. Maybe I'm not supposed to be able to create "land bridges." Does anyone know?
Gee, I like the small "feel" of the game world. I don't need epic. I get tired of everything wanting to be epic. I do want addictive one-more-turn gameplay, and Elemental gives me that.
Glad to see some love for keyboard shortcuts, for those of us whose RSI limits mousing. I'm hoping the numpad keys will finally let us move units in all 8 directions. So has there been any increase in the cost of Pioneers or new cities? In beta, new cities used to cost more than they do now, which made it more interesting to decide whether you should spring for a new city.
Some sort of added cost does seem appropriate. I don't know if it should be gildar only, or materials, or some combination. Or maybe Pioneers should get progressively more costly.
Agree with OP. I am so much in the habit of using ESC to close windows that I inadvertently bring up the main menu every five minutes in Elemental. I wouldn't mind if ESC brought up the main menu once all other windows are closed, but first I'd have ESC close one currently-open open window. I also want working keyboard shortcuts for movement, but that's another issue. :)
I can't bet Blink to work at all. I get the red or green cursor, but then nothing happens when I click.
Caravans work nicely. I especially like how they form roads. But they die fast, because there doesn't seem to be a way to assign an escort to the caravan once it's automatically doing trade runs. One can of course micromanage this by moving a combat unit in tandem with the auto-moving caravan, but that would be tedious. Could we get the ability to add escorts to caravan trade routes? I suppose one downside of this would be that the AI might not be as good as as
OK, I will go post it there.
I'm not sure I understand how to set up a safe trade route with a neighboring city. I send a caravan there, and a road pops up, and now the caravan runs along the road automatically -- right? But I can't assign an escort to the route, it seems. So sooner or later, a bandit or spider comes along and whacks my caravan. Now, I could micromanage this by having a unit follow the caravan every turn, but that is awfully tedious. Is there a way to group the caravan with
My sovereign was half a world away from home, so I figured I'd research Blink for a quick ride back. When I cast the spell, I get a green icon on eligible tiles, as I would expect. But when I right- or left-click, nothing happens. Am I missing something? Does this spell work?
I'm also wondering whether the sovereign's mana can ever regenerate in combat.
Yep, I'm seeing the same thing. Earlier I posted a thread asking for a keyboard way to move diagonally. But now I realize that sometimes I can move diagonally with the keyboard -- and sometimes I can't. As you say, using the arrow keys is ... unpredictable. Sometimes left moves you left; sometimes it moves you up-and-left. I don't understand it.
Thanks for looking into it, Neil. On my system, the "even numbers" on the numpad do work -- 2 4 6 8 -- but not the odd ones. So I can use the numpad like the arrow keys, to move straight up or down, or left or right, but not diagonally -- and half the time I want to move diagonally! I wonder if this issue relates to the varying keyboard layouts people have. Laptops, for example, might share numpad keys with other keys (like delete/insert), if they have a numpa
I'm having fun with Elemental! It hasn't crashed on me once, and the gameplay is richer and more interesting now. The UI is also generally improved, but the improvement I most hoped for isn't quite there yet. The numpad is *partly* functional, but the diagonal keys don't work! The result is that I still have to mouse-rightclick to move most of the time, unless I know I'm moving in one of the four non-diagonal directions. It's probably a small thing to most gamers
If anyone verifies that the e-book version includes the code, could you please let us know? I prefer to buy e-books these days.
