The behavior here is slightly different (Vista Ultimate (x86), Terrans). The end-of-turn (EOT) report comes up saying I've finished a Starport. I highlight that entry and click the Go To button. It puts me into the main planet window. I then click the Build Ship button there and instead of putting me into the Shipyard, it pops me back to the main map and the EOT report. If I highlight the "Starport completed" message and Go To it again (or just dismiss the EOT report after the first attempt

All I had to do was hit View | Refresh in Stardock Central and it changed Purchase (incorrect) to Install (correct).
These are all trivial interface-type bugs I'm seeing in TA 1.8c beta 1 under Vista Ultimate (x86) using an NVIDIA 7600GT graphics card. They're so small, I didn't want to set up different threads for each. - As I mentioned in the beta announcement thread, the installation routine doesn't add a launch icon to my Desktop (nor to Games Explorer). A manually created shortcut to TALauncher.exe works fine. - When starting a New game, under the Pick Your Civilization screen, clickin
We're having some trouble with the TALaunch.exe on Vista, so that's why it's not launching the launcher from SDC. Did it install the icons in the Games Explorer for you?
TA launches from SDC fine. It's just that by default, no launch icon is put on the desktop. I made my own shortcut to TALaunch.exe and it works fine. I'm embarrassed to say I never thought to look in Games Explorer. But, after you mentioned it, I checked and all that's there is a lau
This is trivial and could very well be my fault, so I'm bringing it up here instead of in it's own thread. After installing TA from Stardock Central (SDC), there's no launch shortcut on my Vista desktop. I can launch it from within SDC and I'll create a shortcut from the C:\Program Files\Stardock\TotalGaming\GalCiv2\Twilight directory. But, just in case this is not expected behavior, I thought I'd bring it up. "Changing Chapters" from within the old DL/DA startup program doesn't include TA (
Oopsie. I guess I'd better download it.
I just opened up Stardock Central and it prompted me to update (Verion 2.49.497, build 162). I did so, and when I checked the Games directory under the new version, I show a minor update for the base build of Galactic Civilizations II (from 1.50.128 to 1.50.129). Nothing else has changed. I'm currently running DA 1.80C. Do I update GC2 or would that do something bad to DA 1.80C?
- Open my Desktop shortcut to C:\Users\Dave\AppData\Local\VirtualStore\Program Files\Stardock\SmartException\ZippedExceptions which is where the exceptions are actually located under Vista (I had to manually create the ZippedExceptions directory (I believe))
Are you saying you've manually created that directory noted above (not the fake one Vista shows you) and things still don't get put into it (again, not in the fake Vista one)?
AFAIK, all my SmartException submissions have been complete. When DA fails under Vista, all I do is: - Double-click the SmartException icon - Select the top-most of the two exceptions listed and hit the "Email Selected Exception" button - Enter a description of what I was doing and hit the generate report button (that's from memory since I don't have any exceptions in there) - Close the resulting file browser since there won't be any files in the standard directory - Op
Two things I'd like in this area: 1) Surrender decisions made with vengence in mind by evil cultures, survival of population (admittedly through mystical genetic conversion) for good cultures, and a history-influenced choice between those tactics for neutral cultures. 2) A tweak to the Treaties tab that put an arrow on the At War lines showing which one in the pair started the particluar war (make the red lines look like the lines for the new treaties).
<br/
I know this is an old thread, but I just had personal experience with this in DA 1.80c. The Arceans were at war with everyone but me. I allied with them (heck, I had to give them Alliance to do it). I then bribed the Altarians to stop fighting them. A few turns later, the Arceans surrendered their worlds to the ALTARIANS! AFAIK, I was the only one even on speaking terms with them. Yet, they didn't surrender their worlds to me, their sole Ally.
I've noticed this in several version now, but I always forget to report it. When starting a new game (DA 1.80c, currently), on the Customize Your Civilization screen, pressing the Clear button on the bottom of the page cycles through various Political Parties. Since it's a Clear button, I'd assume it's supposed to reset everything to its default. So, multiple presses shouldn't change things.
Cari, I downloaded the 1.80b version and started up a new Medium/Abundant galaxy. The number of habitable planets was very nice. One other thing, did you change your algorithm for Anomaly generation? It was like Christmas. I had four survey-type ships and was pulling in all kinds of great things (especially cash). Regardless, another great job. Thanks.
Near the end of that game, the Yor (whom I was fighting) finally sued for peace. They had a boat-load of money, so any lack of ship building shouldn't have been for financial reasons. Interestingly, according to the Shipyards from within the planetary screens, the tended to build mere Defender-class ships (updated considerably, though, over the default). I don't know why they'd do this since they'd sent some pretty big and powerful ships my way earlier in the game.
Cari, I wouldn't worry about the proportion of Habitable planets that are Extreme. As I mentioned in that "unmentionable" thread, unless Stardock wants to totally revamp the idea of Extreme environments, the current mix is about the only way to make the researching of those technologies worthwhile (gameplay-wise). As always, thank-you for all the hard work. If it were possible for you to publish a mailing address for you and your team, we could inundate you with chocolate or
The first time it happened to me, it was still early in the game. I had no ships to speak of and hadn't even thought about researching Planetary Invasion yet. So, I just had to write-off those worlds. The last time, though, I was gearing up to invade an AI. The event happened and, instead of declaring war on the AI, I just declared war on the Jagged Edge and took over their planets (starting with my own) using my stockpile of Transports. I ended up with a much bigger chunk of the map. At t
I've run into this event a couple of times. I'm not an expert, but, yes, it's a random event. AFAIK, the only way to avoid it is to turn Random Events off entirely when you're setting up the game (I think the option is right below the galaxy size selection). My guess about the 14K in troops is that their takeover didn't involve any kind of fight: it just happened (I know, a bit silly, but it IS a Random Event). Anyway, everything you had on that planet now belongs to them (to paraphrase).
In my current 1.8a game (Tough, all AIs Intelligent), I'm not certain what's going on. Once again, if I select any AI planets, the Starport is Idle. However, I have enough intelligence on the AIs so that I can go into the planet and look at the Starport there to see that ships are theoretically being produced. I don't know if this difference in information is normal behavior. Also, there seems to be a lack of ships attacking me. I was bottom of the heap for military strength when the Yor de
I vote for a "scorched earth" policy on this thread. It stopped being entirely relevant when 1.8a was released, it can't go anywhere good from here, and it's one more response from Brad away from being an article on Gamespot. Seriously, bury it. Me and a couple other of the guys will go dig a hole out in the desert for it. Just looking out for you.
I agree. Lock the thread. It's far off topic, now, and is just becoming a p*ssing contest. If I find any more
When you choose your opponents, that "friendly" setting Iztok mentioned will not reset even if you have the game randomly choose your foes. When you start your next game, I'd specify your own opponents, set the number to nine (the maximum), and then manually check that each opponent square is set to "unknown" (I think that's the word) instead of "friendly." It'll stay that way until you manually change it again.
I started another 1.8a game and ended up blowing the averages the other way. This time, when I started it up, I got 118 systems under a Large/Abundant map (yeah!). From my explorations around me, it looks like I've got a decent number of Habitable planets (I'm not going to do a CTRL-U on this one since I want to play it). It might have absolutely nothing to do with it, but this time I cycled all the sliders back through to Abundant just in case something wasn't registering. I'll keep an eye
I've only just recently tried using this Archival thing, so I'm not sure how it's supposed to work. But, it looks like I've got the same problem here under Vista. I thought I'd fixed the Auto Archive ability by changing the archive directory out of Program Files. But, after your post, I paid more attention to what was showing an it looks like what you're seeing. Under SDC's File | Restore Archive screen, I'm showing: - Galactic Civilizations II Heightmaps 1.50.128 06/13/2007
Do they have the tech as well? If not it wont work.
Oh, blerg. In my last game, I couldn't get an Alliance option out of one of the AIs (I did with the others). It never occurred to me to just trade (or outright give) him Alliance technology (I jealously guard my yellow techs). Thanks for reminding me.
...But the flaming of 1.8 over this tweak while ignoring the immensity of the updates is a good way to ensure an end of free updates.
The only reason we're harping on this problem here is because this thread is specifically about the habitable planet problem. As a beta tester, I'm well aware of how good this version is compared to the previous production version. My only problem is that this "tweak" didn't go through the beta test. So, this is the time and place we hav
So, I decided I'd had enough fun counting suns and planets and actually decided to play a game. I brought up a 1.8a Large/Abundant map and blew my averages. From my earlier tests, most Large/Abundant galaxies should fall in the range of 90 to 106 systems with an average around 98. This map came up with 65 systems. I decided to play it anyway. After a few turns of exploring, I was finding very few Habitable planets. So, I pulled it up in a cheat setup and did a CTRL-U to see the whole map.
