Having some success with overcoming few issues in TA that are discussed above. Here is a short list of the changes I made and reasons. I also gave alot of thought to the tech slowdown and came up with what I believe is an intriquing possible solution but it needs testing. I prefer long drawn out games, this is my playstyle. My usual setup:

Not sure this one has ever been pub'd , its one of my favorites. I probably shouldn't be giving away secrets like this, lol... PS: I know this works on da and ta. You can gain lots of techs or even treaties once a major declares war against a minor race. Key is you have to have the right ships built early on. I build a basic dd1 (des

I made a rule for myself that I always trade the one before latest propulsion and logistics to the ai if I am trading for anything. This helps to overcome the slowness of their ships with the autodesign. The logistics also helps them with fleet sizes. But if I am not one ahead of the particular race then I don't trade like this. <span style="f

Forgot to mention, I have my 9500gt set to run "high performance" over "quality" and this seems to help. I could also overclock this card using the Nvidia tool sliders but I have not had to do this yet. But perhaps you can up the performance of your card a bit using the software which usually comes with the vc.

I installed civ5 on my system which is a core 2 duo 3.0ghz, 4gig ram, xp pro and I have the nvidia 9500 gt fanless video card. It seems to run just fine although admittedly I have not reached the end stages of a game yet. I noticed there are alot of video and performance options to choose from and I have mine set fairly high so you should be able to get it to run decently. As umbralangel mentioned, I also usually do not purchase the latest ga

Please read my regurgitated "most evil races not expanding" just above this post which was originally posted in 2008 and alot was discussed about the problem. Has anyone come up with a good selection of what personalities to change the evil races to get around the problem? I was trying a few but its been a long time and maybe someone has already come up with some good combinations. Those which keep the evil races truely evil and don't make them int

Glad to see others are discussing this apparent problem with evil races on another post. I just wanted to bring this one back up to the front so that others could read and maybe help to find a customizable solution. I hate to set the evil races to another personality to fix but are there any other suggestions or methods? Thanks in advance. PS: Read this post for some history on this problem which was identified a long time ago.

Yes I reported this back on July 14, it can be found under twilight of the arnor with title "most evil races not expanding" and was up to 3 pages long. Last post was Sept 12. I believe carielf said they had found something to do with "influence ratio" but not sure if this is the issue or what happened. https://f

Just wanted to say that I use cntl-n to gen maps and also check debug.err to make sure all races are (still) the correct intelligence. That they are not getting hosed by using cntl-n. I believe this is a good way to make sure nothing is changed inadvertantly by using cntl-n. Concerning the evil races not expanding, in my opinion this is definitely still an issue with 1.96 Hope stardock can fix this problem in the next patch?

I deleted the twilight folder in mygames and tried a few short games. Not sure about any others but unfortunately, I am still getting the same result as before. Very sorry to report this greenpower, I thought you might be on to something. Absolutely agree if you change their personality to something non-evil all seems well but of course the game is not the same because now the drengin or korath behave different from what they should. But it is playable. I know they like to build militar

Mistralok, I have had problems with system freezing up after using cntl-n too many times so I use it sparingly, quit then come back in fresh. But I will check to see if its impacting intelligence as this would not be what I want, thanks for the pointer. I did start a game with first map it generated and korath yor and drengin did very poorly on expansion. This can also be duplicated by simply starting a game and observing the race circles on the map while hitting turn key. The game is still

Yes I was suspicious when drengin, korath, yor and to a lesser extent, korx were doing so poorly but when I found that 21 planet right next to drengin I decided to make an entry here on the forum. Braddock, that is exactly what I saw too, they only colonize their own sector then stop. I also saw this on Gigantic in addition to immense. I have not been playing anything smaller lately. I am now playing an immense game with drengin, korath and yor personality changed and all is well but o

Piznit, Come to think of it this weekend in a game I was able to find a 21 planet right next to drengin who were huge distance from me halfway across an immense map and it took me forever to get there. Stars were set to uncommon, planets and hab planets common.

I have tried quite a few tests and real games. I always try to make sure they have a good position with regards to a cluster of stars to work with. They are not in a remote corner. Abundant does seem to help but not always. I still feel there is an issue here. Sorry if I am coming across wrong way but just trying to help. This is a great game.

Exactly, this is what I am noticing too. I did a complete reload of 196.027 after deleting stuff out of mygames dir, same result. Then I came up with idea to just start games and watch the circles expand and yep, you can clearly see the evil races have a problem expanding, the korx less so. I changed drengin personality to human and wow, did he ever expand! But right now on gifted the evil races are mostly wimps and I have seen this in several somewhat complete games, or at least until it was ob

fyi... I went out and edited all resource mining facilities (starbaseabilityvalue in starbasemodules.xml) down to 1 from (in most cases) 5. This gives you just 1% increase (after the initial 5%) for starbases on resources. I just prefer not having the resources impact the game so much. You have to be careful when editing starbasemodules.xml because there are quite a few mininig facilities for each race and the names are different. First one seems to be mining barracks.

I have been playing with everyone mostly on gifted level and have gone through quite a few games. Thing is only evil races had the problem, all others expanded very quickly and consistantly have more colonies. This problem can also be recreated by simply starting game, pressing the turn key and watching the empires expand. I do tend to favor gigantic/immensed with hp=common, p=common, ns=uncommon, loose clusters, a=rare, as=rare, tech=vs. Way I am getting around is resetting personality o

Is anyone else having a problem where drengin, korath and yor barely expand with colonies? I have ta v 196.027 installed. I have been playing mostly gifted on gigantic and immense but have been testing just hitting turn button and watching how each expands. The drengin, korath and yor seem to have most problem and usually only end up with 4-6 colonies where others have 20, 16, etc. I noticed korx dont seem to have as much a problem. I tried raising sensor level, didnt see
