The trackpoint system used by ThinkPad laptops allows you to hold down the middle mouse button and then use the trackpoint to scroll. If you set the scroll option to Standard scrolling, then you are unable to use the middle mouse in galciv for 3d rotation. If you change the scroll method to 'Standard' scrolling, or disable it altogether, then you can use the middle mouse to rotate. However, neither of the scroll options allows you to scroll in scrollable windows by holding down the middle mou

- (curttasker) the AI is still horrible in 1.01X at managing its planets with regards to bonus tiles. I took over a planet that had a research bonus with a cultural center on it, a cultural bonus tile with a factory, and a production bonus tile with a research lab on it. Several other planets were just as bad I'd like to clarify that this
Update =============================== Updated as of post 69. Crossed off changes made in 1.01X.110.
- (curttasker) Ship save dialogs have text boxes that require you to click to create a cursor. Then you have to hold down the delete key until it is empty. Only then can you name the ship. Tab does not move the cursor to the description field. - (curttasker) [ESC] should trigger the cancellation/closing of *any* open window. Currently it will close some windows, but mostly it will just open up the options screen. This is counter productive. Also, [Enter] should trigger the accep
- Wonky money behaviour, especially with taxation. In one game I was somehow in the hole -2 gagillion credits (something like 20 digits long). I've never noticed any problems with taxation. Provide a savegame of said 'bug' to stardock with a much more in depth description of what you were doing when it happened <TABLE cellpadding=8
How many bugs did curttasker's post turn up? 100's! That's ridiculous in this day and age.. I'd just like to point out that my post is mostly composed of annoyance issues and suggestions for improvement. There are a handful of minor bugs that do not seriously hinder gameplay. The only serious bug i've encountered was the CTD bug, and that ha
Well, I sure can use help. I've been messing with the game for a couple of days, and seem to be getting it understood. Do wish there was a better manual though that explained things clearly. Along that line, I'm sure designing one's own ships is simple, but I'm missingthe simple solution. Are there step by step instrustions someplace to design and save a ship? I go
So what about piracy? Remember? That's the argument why games need all kinds of DRM and CD protection -- piracy. Yet retail sales are very high. Very high despite the fact that any one of the 50,000+ people who have already purchased could zip up the CDs and put them on-line because there's no copy protection. FYI, 48 seeders, 81 leechers, 42
1a) They upgrade ships only in the starbase radius. According to economic starbases should affect a planet if any part of the planet's square is touched by the starbase radius. I'd assume that applies to military starbases and ships as well. 1b) They *should* affect ships defending planets. However, I have read reports of some ships not gaining the bonuses properly while in orbit. 2a) As long as the planets are all within the starbase's radius, all of the planets will gain the
You can play a quasi-Hot seat game with someone by loading up the game as GalCiv2 cheat (use the cheat parameter). Then when you set up the game, you let the AI play out a few turns and then have your friend pick one of the races they want to control. Have them select that unit and hit CTRL-SHIFT-Z.
Lets see if i can explain this using basic terms. A computer has 65535 ports through which it can communicate with other computers. Certain port numbers are used by virtually all computers to perform certain tasks. Port 25, for instance, is used to send email. Port 80 is used to browse web pages. Some applications use a range of ports (6881-6999) to communicate. Now, when you plug your computer directly into an internet connection, either dialup or broadband, it is poss
In order for a ship to gain defense assist bonuses, it must have at least 1 point of defense in any of the 3 defense types. In order for a ship to gain attack assist bonuses, it must have at least 1 point of defense in any of the 3 attack types.
The AI doesn't do this. If it is too hard to get the AI to do the above. I suggest making troop transport ships use only one logistic point. This would make it possible to group a few of them with combat ships and not have the fleet be a sitting duck. The problem with this is that you'd be able to create massive invasion forces early on. Notice ============================= As Stardock continues to update the game frequently, its going to get harder for me to maintain this list properly. Specifically, they're going to be implementing minor fixes listed in this thread, but they may forget to mention them in the patch notes. If you notice a particular issue you posted about has been fixed in a patch, please post here to let me know, and I'll cross it off the list. If an issue is mentioned in the official pat
QUESTION: When I autopilot a constructor vessel unto any resource (doesn't matter which type) it inevitably creates a "mining starbase". Furthermore I have never seen starbases acutally having any effect in the under starbase bonusses details screen in a colony. Is this also a bug?? As to part 1, you can only build mining starbases o
- (curttasker) ships that are autolaunched to a rally point using the colony rally point system appear as invisible the initial turn they are launched. If you click on the correct tile (southeast of the planet), suddenly they will appear and be selected. - (curttasker) after a ship is destroyed (confirmed with scout ships, unconfirmed with other types), you are able to see the area around the ship's last position as if the ship still existed. The fog of war is gone, and you can see
Not from the same planet. However, if you forsee the need to buy more than one ship ahead of time, you can instead build a fleet of cheap tiny ships. When the time comes to buy a bunch of ships, just upgrade all the tiny ships into the ones you wish to buy.
1 - I havn't found a way to reset the color schemes yet. 2 - I'm usually between 10b and 20b. On decent planets, I always build one farm, one entertainment system. Here are some things you can do to try keeping your people happy: + Build a mining starbase on a Morale Resource. Try for more than one. Upgrade them. + Research the Xeno Entertainment line of techs for their innate Morale bonus. + On heavily overpopulated planets, build 2 Entertainment Centers to every F
The AI has also come up with some really rather ridiculous trade offers, such as wanting to trade their Mass Drivers tech for my Xeno Ethics... when I've been researching Phasors. They could at LEAST have thrown in some money or influence into the bargain! This happens all the time. I tend to trade for more expensive techs (Harpoon 3 vs Basic
- Defeated AI players (major, not minor) still have "influence" scores. I've noticed this as well. If you view the UP screen, it shows all the races with their influence scoers, even races that are no longer in the game.
you need to go to the "Edit your Metaverse Characters"-Page and then click on "Default" once @ the character whose stats you want to show up here. The Default-Button should then be highlighted and the icons appear then. I followed these steps, and my icons show up now in all the posts I have ever made. <TABLE cellpadding=8 wid
Thank god the campaign is over. I'm sick to death of having to deal with Dreadlords. Now off to some sandbox games where 31 attack scout vessels and 80ish attack carriers don't wander into my life a third of the way thru a game.
This is starting to look like the WoW forums, soooo many stickies! Consider consolidating them a bit please.
After just finishing a seven hour game, I just have to re-interate how BAD the text entry boxes and ship selection is. - I ended up creating dozens of ship designs, and had to deal with the awful text entry boxes each time. Make them work like they do in windows, please. Waypoint naming is just as bad. I had to give up on naming fleets, it was just too annoying to deal with any more text boxes than absolutely necessary. - The ship selection silliness caused me to leave m
