If Galciv2 and HOI 2 merged, it would rule the earth as the coolest game ever.

Its simple. An Event is written with three sets of choices. If your race is neutral or has yet to choose an alignment of good or evil, you get the vanilla choices you are used too. If your race is evil, you get a special set of choices, where all three are ruthless to some extent. The same for good, except the final choices are altruistic. Consider; "The Planet Kydonia V has a race of beings not unlike humans, in their rennaisance period."<b
I think if I conquer a planet, unless its genocide/biological warfare, there are going to be civillians. Especially if I get to keep their planetary improvements. it only makes sense that when a particular race is assimilated into your own, that you add some of their essence to your own. Just ask the Borg.
What ever happened to the great ideas from this thread? I definitely like that it inspired a few thoughts. Away Teams, Labs, Tech level requirements to survey. Surveying planets. I used to love Starflight for that reason. From the Planet: "This is Lt Jensen, we've found something down here..." The player then delegates or prompts them to do something else. Not always good, nuetral or evil, sometimes its just gray. Putting lab modules on ships though
Okay, Stardock is brilliant. Unique Research Trees, so the Humans seem more like Humans and the Dark Yor more like...Dar Yor. Lets take this one step further. Why would they then have the same senate and political parties? Sure, if you start an Imperial Republic, maybe there are certain commonalities, and some races may have similar governments. However, what I see is an evolution with Arnor; Lets take the Korath and the Drengin.
#1- I would like to be able to produce "Crews" to assign to starships. These Crews would come in five flavors. "Research Staff" "Medical Staff" "Engineering Staff" "Tactical Staff" "Away Teams" The size of the ship will determine how many crews you can assign to the ship. You drop them in at the time you launch the ship, much like you do when the colony ship or troop transport is launched, except any available crew on that planet are available to be d
Did you ever kick so much butt early on in the game, that you think "Dang, I wonder if I just got an awesome start and thats why I am whipping the other aliens?" --I would like to see "The Learning AI". This is not learning at all. What you get though is that any game you have started and saved can be loaded with the 'learning AI option'. You select the turn and the race you want to start as. Here is how you would use it- Lets say I am playing the Humans and I am d
So I just conquered the Drengin Homeworld. (plus several of its other planets). This means the Drengin are part of my empire. My soldiering is much weaker than theirs (but I produce a lot of troops). I would like to see some way that soldiers from worlds homeworlds of conquered culture have a soldier ranking of their own base value + my races tech. To me, it just seems to make sense to draw my space marines from the ranks of these new worlds.
How would an embassy and cultural base be considered aggression? I think that if you were to think of it like America putting Mcdonalds in Russia. Its really just that our culture started to bleed into theirs. Russia can't very well declare outright war because its people started loving our jeans and hamburgers. I would like to see a culture start building influence bases on its borders in a similar strategic manner to my own though.
As a "Good" race, I sometimes think that when most of my ships are armed to the teeth with weapons, that it would be nice if I could have stuck a Labs deck on there. Imagine a module that adds Research to a ship. It may even be higher when its outside of your territory by 10% (Assuming it is exploring the galaxy). To me, this is kind of the reason Trek Federation Ships are armed but have an exploration/lab mission. Additionally, I would like to see modules that let me car
I can see it now. PICARD: WTF? THE BORG? RYKER: YES, THIS IS STUPID. WE CANT BEAT THEM! PICARD: OMG, I AM COMPLAINING. ITS UNBALANCED THAT THERE IS SOMETHING IN GALAXY I CANNOT DEFEAT. RYKER: I AGREE. THIS EPISODE IS HOSED.
Your parents will be notified you are being bad, on the internet.
When I was in my teens, "Starflight" came out, and I actually snuck into where my buddy was a security gaurd to find computers poweful enough to play this game on two low density floppy disks. At the time, it was the greatest game I ever played and I think to this date it ranks in my top ten. In many ways, Alien Legacy and Star Control were inspired by (and probably created by some of the same people) this game. Starflight allowed
bump?
Here is my suggestion; There needs to be a slider for tech trading likelihood, with 100% being what it is now. As the Drengin for instance, I think negotiation is beneath me. I like to 'roleplay' rather than do what is strategically viable, which is to be a tech whore in the start of the game before I start smash and grab. as the humans on the other hand, I try to trade and expand peacefully. I can see how in multiplayer the setting of 100% would be ideal, becaus
I can't help but remember the Imperium Galactica II event like this; A Sun is about to go supernova, and a desperate but pathetic alien race contacts you, asking for aid. As the "Good" Humans, you can naturally send transports ships to aid the survivors and as a reward you get a handy tech and some increased population. Plus the joy of knowing you did something good. As the evil conquering race, the same event plays out for you, but your ch
First an Analogy: The United States, might consider itself "charitable", because when it entered WWII, it was to aid the European powers of France, England, and Russia against Germany and Japan. (Granted Pearl Harbor had a hand in it), but the old addage talk softly and carry a big stick, has to do with not being a bully or conquerer, yet being ready to fight if need be. In Iraq, the United States official view is that we are occupying these people
I love this debate. While I see the logic behind: If you generate 2 RP a turn and If it costs 30 to get a technology, than 15 turns for 1 technology is infinitely better than dividing 2 by 6, and then waiting 180 turns to get a payoff, but getting 6 technologies at that time. However, I do see how it could work. I hate to 'borrow' from other games for an analogy, but Heart of Iron II does the initial idea the best justice. What if every playable n
Races are not inherently "Good" or "Evil". That is somewhat naive. Granted, having a Darth Vader/Maul type in his floating "Death Star" seems pretty evil, so I am not suggesting scrapping the entire idea of Good versus Evil. Only 'evolving' it. This would be a fairly simple system. You probably already track alignment on what I call the "X Axis". A straight up and down line that says something like +100 is good, 0 is neutral and -100 is evil (
Sometimes the best games learn lessons from earlier games. For instance, clearly being able to design your own space ship is inspired from the lessons of Masters of Orion I and II. Having events where a player must make a choice, a, b, or c reminds me of Castles I. In that game however, a flag would be set and the decision would come back to haunt you later. So for instance, you decide to send your son to the crusades, later you get asked whether to
