The phrase is currently ' save our strength other wars. ' Should be ' save our strength for other wars. ' Thanks for the game!
GC2 Ultimate pack: list itself in-game as version 2.03 Twilight of Arnor (English) Starship Defenses should have a space between " Starship " and " Defenses ". All the other lower level techs that are multi-word do display space between words. Thanks for the fun game!
MoO3 was meant to be: 1) The best of MoO1 2) The best of MoO2 3) Designed exclusively around MP, with SP being purely a trainer for MP 4) State of the art See a problem here? That MP is why in SP sucked so much. See, you were going to be an Emperor--- and only get 5 to 10 minutes, per turn, to do everything you want, enforced by the game itself. All else flowed from that. How do I know? I was a fan consultant. The Art Director, Lead
Wasn't sensors already nerfed to give a max range of 15? I'm against nerfing cargo sensor ships. They are just the game's equivalence of AWACS.
amaevis, I believe I understand your point. And that you understand mine. However, you've got some of your American history incorrect. The original Confederation of American failed because participation of the individual members states voluntarily participated to their own degree at the Federal level. Funding, enforcment, laws, trade, etc. This is the situation we have with the current UN. Where you go wrong: It was the creation of the United States of America th
Citizen Suralle, fear not. The AI no longer votes to levy itself. Heck, it doesn't vote to put a levy on its new enemies. It's worst enemy, that it might vote a levy against. --------------------------------------------------------------------------- re: UN The UN is a joke, but not because of underfunding. It's a joke because the vast majority of the entities involved in it are playing a Zero Sum Game. They don't believe in cooperating for the betterment of all; they only b
Overflight prevented Nuclear War. Status Quo is what prevented Nuclear War. A couple of timely assassinations of Russian Generals and Strategists by other Russian Generals and Strategists is what prevented Nuclear War. The UN had nothing to do with it. Indeed, the UN has had a hand in trying to accelerate the spread and usage of nuclear weapons because it allows countries to shay "The UN will handle it" and "The UN would never allow it" when in fact the UN has been bought off or just been guilt
The best way is to build a ship and chase around their ships. You'll be able to look at the basic combat stats of their ships/fleets. This will let you know if the Drengin are mounting Missiles, Drivers, or Beamers. It won't let you see their precise component listing without some espionage spending, but you will get to see that 2 of their Heavy Cruisers as a fleet have 10 Beam, 14 Armor and 30/30 hit points, for instance. If you want to know the precise components on an alien ship, you need to
Tactics: It is Frogboy's opinion that a tactical layer is just a crutch for players so that players won't have to use their brains to do strategy. The reason for this is that players invariably find the exploits in the tactical layer, and then use them. For instance, in Acsendancy, you get Large hulls, and fill them up with the passive damage absorders, leaving just enough room for an engine, power plant, and a weapon. Then, you can fight all the tactical battles you want to, and never lose beca
BlizzardGR, with enough work, anything could be made to work. But the point is, does it fit into the game play? Look, there's already enough game destroying events in the game. There are eco-terrorist that go around, and destroy planets. This is the same thing as your "nova" event. The only way to stop it is to waste the terrorist. Complete pain in the rump. Spoils the game/fun. Why? Because GalCiv is a strategy game, and too much randomness that changes the power balance destroy the
Hey, I do agree that you should be able to put honking big lasers and missile bases on your planet. Then, your planet could defend itself, or at least lend aid as a military starbase does, to the ships defending the world. That is an excellent suggestion, that has been made time after time, both in GC1, GC1 AP, and now GC2. Now, in GC2, you'd only do this on your military hard points, as plaentary tileage is just too precious to waste like that on safe worlds. <img src="smiles/Wink.gif" border=0
Well, remember that moons range in size from large cars to full worlds. So we should establish what a "moon" is if we want to say something is more or less massive then a moon. You do raise a good point. However, as transports are smaller, they've be able to overtake a running world and still invade. So you still end up with needing a local defense force to intercept the transports before they can land on your worlds.
Ah, but you use heavy shielding and don't let it through. If you can tap serious power, a planet could shield itself. The Terror Star does not escape. It sits there and watches the results. I'm sure that GC2 Terror Stars will do the same thing. Otherwise, it would be too easy for a civ with a few Terror Stars to do an "Alpha Strike" and eliminate a well spread out race in one turn. That's something Brad seems to dislike, so its a safe bet that Terror Stars will be big and forever slow
if you can shoot a large bulky starship with a weapon (laser/plasma/focused gravity beam/.9c lead slugs/controlled micro-singularities/etc) then there is no such thing as a "super-fast" fighter that you cannot shoot. Your guns already have to move very quickly. In addition, in GC2, the largest ships are just as nimble in combat as the smallest of ships. So a tiny fighter tries to swoop, that huge battleship attacking it goes just as fast and swoops just as easy. So there isn't anywhere for a fig
Brad... I can always get more missile value out of the same tier and minor revision then I can get out of the other 2 weapons. The space difference between missiles and the others is trivial for all hull sizes. You just cannot get a higher beam or driver for the same amount of space on a hull, due to that doubling of missile strength. Square or half, the difference doesn't actually matter when you are still in the teens. The economic cost of building those lost small ship i
The percentage of 0s, even at the highest habitable planet setting, is fairly high. I haven't recorded actual totals, but my *impression* has been it's somewhere around 50% or higher. I haven't tried the very lastest gamma build as I was busy with paying the bills last night, but I'll generate a few maps tonight at the highest habitable level and take a good look at the maps to try and get a more accurate number to report back on.
I find the weapon split to be completely pointless as it stands. Here's why: Missiles rule all. At least at the lower tech, and I've never played a game where anything past tier 2 weapons were deployed so for. Why do missiles rule? Simple: Each unit of missiles is twice as strong as the other weapon types. But defenses are the same, regardless. Meaning that Missiles pack twice the punch, making them twice as good in all circumstances. What's this lead to? Watch o
Actually, we aren't talking genocide for a major race, are we? We are talking about the taking of one world. It's just an island colony, after all. For most instances in the game, there will be other colonies of the same species elsewhere, so that isn't a true genocide. It's "genocidal". However, when you cannot economically use something, then it is worth being "genocidal" and doing a small bit of research into eliminating a problem on your planned new conquest. What would be more economical fo
Beta 90b Started a new game as Humans. Had listed as available from the start a design I made in an early Human game. This design was a very primitive small hull with starting beam component (2 beam 1 for a total of Beam 2). Problem was, I didn't have access to beam technology yet! The ship had my write up on it, but its picture was empty, and its actual stats was 0/1 hit points. It was also buildable instantly, and the built blank ship was launchable and findable in my ship list and
First game I started under 90b had me, playing the Terrans, start off in the Cari system. Earth was named Cari 1, not earth. The Caris home world was Cari 2 (Mars equivalent). I have a save demonstrating this if need be. If all races get their homeworld systems in thie beta as in previous, then I would guess that when the Minor Cari race spawned, it selected "Mars" (or some other world in the Terran Home System), and renamed the system after the new, more famous occupants. However th
I'm talking about this planet. How about you? You might want to go review human history. History is littered with examples where every capable body gets pressed into fighting for the survival of the village, city, or minor state. All the men, women, and children capable of being taught to do any useful task. Especially when they are facing an opponent that will put them all to death (or that they think will do so). Heck, we don't have to go past the twentieth century to find examples
Well, if the PQ 0 worlds weren't on the map, then the Stellar cartography will be too powerful since it allows to show planets on the minimap. You will know then where nice stars are. And the only race that doesn't start with stellar cartography is the human. But there is no reason in GalCiv for the humans to not start with Stellar cartography.
You know, while the cinematic battle viewer is a really sweet bit of code, I'm not really for it. It will continue to make users request control of their ships while in the fleet battler. People will want control. Heck, I'm against adding to Micro-management in GC2, and I will have the occasional fleet battle where I want control (because I think I can make my fleet do better then standard behavior). Also, I find it darn confusing that about 50% of my battles aren't in the battle view
Add all you like. It's an open forum. I was pointing out absurdity brought on by organizations, money, and politics (you know, reality). For instance, there is the common perception that "the Church" is against science, when it is in fact very much for science (other then a few minor aspects of science such as, say, human cloning). Traditionally, "the Church" at its central/highest order of organization is for the advancement of
