Hi! If you want just to destroy a planet, in DA you can do that in planet details screen, and planet will turn to class-0. If you're doing that for gaining tech, then it's a valid, but cheesy tactic, that makes you evil, ;) BR, Iztok

Hi!
when combat screen is not used their does seem to be a few times when both the attacker and the defender are destroyed.
"Invisible ships" bug strikes again? When you'll see that event next time, please click the space both ships/fleets occupied before combat. If you'll find ships there, obviously you found a bug. BR, Iztok

Hi!
but when i had a attack laser rating off 110, and they had no laser defences, i thought for sure i would kill all 4 frigates. But after my dread hit em, i only caused like 5 to 15 pts of dmg
Since you stated you couldn't update the DA game, you very likely got hit by so called "off-type defense bug", that was rampant in older versions of the DA. What that bug did is in short: wrong defenses never depleted and were in fact BETTER than right (on-type) defenses. So if arc

Hi!
My second planet, and my only colony apart from my homeworld, got stuck with it's population at 2.564 billion. No matter what the approval rating was, it would not go higher.
That's normal for a class-4 planet. The pop on it will not grow higher, but you can transport there pop from your HW to get to 6B. For more info you can check wiki: [link="https://www.galciv.wikia.com/wiki/Population"]Population[/link], esp. Formula for Calculating Maximum Population Based on Plan

Hi!
Why are the Arceans so weak in Dark Avatar?
They don't get much in starting abilites, and the strenght of their Super Ability at the start is also very low. But it grows with the firepower of their fleets. The higher it is, the stronger they are. At the end of the weapons tree they just pwn. ;) BR, Iztok

Hi! I had the same problem with my late game huge hull. I simply ran out of hardpoints (red arrows to put parts on them). I solved that problem by putting on the ship a piece of "jevelerey" with lots of hardpoints. BR, Iztok

Hi!
I know World of Warcraft (also WOW) is the biggest MMO out there. 10 Million people are playing. (Is it 10 or 9?)
From start of this year there are two less that are playing it. I've been paying subscription fee for about a year and a half for my two children, but then they ralized WoW isn't fun anymore. In all that time I NEVER even tried it. From what I could saw over shoulder of my kids it was just a big grind to get better stats or equipment, and lots or anger when

Hi!
I am wondering whether you guys create big fleets with some big ships (capital ships) and some escorts (frigates/destroyers) or just same type of ship fleets? I think it would be more 'realistic' to have the former.
Realistic yes, but game doesn't work this way. When firepower of fleets became large, game punishes usege of fleets. :( So I always try to use the biggest hull possible, using it as a singleton most-defense ship. I use fleets of most-defense ships only to

Hi!
First strike always seems to help (I usually play Yor or Korath);
... but it shouldn't, at least in DA. The only advantage for attacker in DA I know is: in case the 50 combat rounds limit is reached and both ships are totaly equal, attacker wins. BR, Iztok

Hi!
What's interesting is in the case of 10 weapons (3dmg each) vs 25 defense (off type) the result would likely the be same as if the defender had 25 (on type) defense.
Err, not exactly. In your case you still roll 3 vs 4 in most shots, so there's a reasonable chance you'll score some hits. But rolling 3 vs. 24, there's only a chance you'd score a hit if he rolls 3 or less. That's only 1/8 shots to have A CHANCE to score a hit. Defenses in DA really rock! :CONGRAT

Hi!
then the simulators must be way out of date (or meant for a different version of GcivII?).
Unfortunatelly that's true. All curently available combat sims are for DL battles, not DA.
If this is correct, then wow! Time to invest in some major defenses.
Welcome in the club! Hi!
SOMETIMES the technological advances that I make are only made available to the planet that did the research.
In DA you can chose to build on a planet NEW and OLD buildings of the same type. But if you have selected a tab with old buildings, are new ones invisible, until you click the tab with them. This might be your problem. BR, Iztok

Hi!
The event is not very well executed, I understand it was lifted from galciv1 but it never worked correctly in 2. It does acquire the techs of one civilization, but the minor race doesn't start valueing planets more, or anything more for that matter.
In GalCiv-1 AIs (at least until that was nerfed) valued planets significanly higher than they do in GC-2. So it seems that the event was just ported to GC-2, without any adjustment to GC-2 values. BR, Iztok

Reply to Hit Points in Bug Reports

Hi! I've read an explanation to this: when ship "heals", HPs are added to existing ones, but are not checked against max HP. If you have big repair bonus, a ship that has only 2 HPs missing, may get from repair 10 new HP points instead. However that explanation could be wrong, because it was not from developers. BR, Iztok

Hi! A question to the developers please: How DA combat system handles weapons bonus? Does each weapon get a percentage bonus to its attack, or is there a super shoot (bonuses from each weapon on the ship added to the shot of the first weapon)? TIA and BR, Iztok

Hi!
I am wondering Iztok whether you are happy now with the DA combat model or whether you actually prefer the DL model?
I already had quite some discussions about DA combat with Wyndstar. Despite there IS a Rock-Paper-Scissors system in it, the AI unfortunately can't use it properly. At the extreme edges of DA combat model AI most of the time fails, and uses only the Rock part of it. I personally don't have a strong preference to either combat model, but AI was

Hi!
every single time the opponent wins. Of course I'm not going to go through the math, but I'm sure it seems obvious who should win the battle.
If you'd go through the math you'd see it's not so obvious who should win. In DA you don't attack with 1 and 9 and 1, but with each weapon separate. In your case and assuming harpoons (attack 3): - 1 beam, - 3 attacks of 3 missile and - 1 mass. When combat round starts, Thalans are defending to eac

Hi!
Did I miss something?
Check you race's abilities (stats). There you'll see it has significantly higher bonuses in mil and soc production than in research. The bonuses obtained from researched techs give 40% to production and only 10% to research. That's why it is important to get proper staring "abilities" when you design the race. If you intend to go with all-factory, you pick a good bonus to research. If you'd like to play all-labs, you pick production bonuses.

Hi!
The only question I have is was the game actually submitted and if so was it reported as Suicidal? Hi!
ARC is only a slight advantage at most
I need to chime in on that topic. Yesternight ;) I ran a suicidal testbed with proposed game settings for 7th round, edited my race to evil SuperBreeder Altarians, and made all four AIs "straw man" (korx AI, super trader, lowest settings, points for range, repair...). Ran the test for about one game year just sitting on my iconian HW. At the end of it NOT A SINGLE AI had even one ship with weapons, or a single trade freig

Hi! When I entered the MVL I've read the "rulebook", but until I've recently seen posts about it, I was simply not aware that races for metaverse and MVL games can be modified outside of the game! I'm glad this is now a public knowledge, and since neilo volunteered ;) for changing races for those that can't, it is no more a real concern to me. But I'm still against "straw man" opponents. I'd even suggest the commish to "prescribe" the opponents for the 8th round. I like Ferrel's s

Hi!
It just seems to me that the game is swayed in favour of militaristic elements.
Unfortunately that's quite close to the thruth. The game, like most other 4x games, favours constant growth. Conquering planets also means growth. At the end the race that grows the biggest usually wins, by simply crushing all oposition with sheer numbers. To counter that you need to grow (conquer) too, as in this game you most of the time can't organize a real alliance against the biggest

Hi!
I'm pretty sure that defense is done as follows. If you have say 4/16/ 4 it ends up being the appropriated defense + the square root of the other two.
That would be dread Lords combat, where defenses stack.
