You wouldn't be able to do DRM like starforce without a disc anyway, right? But here, here, I would not buy this game with starforce, but from what I've read now I probably will. thanks!

Haha Darn i never going to find the time to finish Baldurs gates.... And I thought I was the only one who still had this gem on his computer waiting to be finsihed
Civ 1 and Moo 1 definately have cost me a lot of nights sleep. MAN they were great, and still in every new game I look for some of the good things from those games.
heh, nice one Nullspace
The only gotcha I see what that though is that it could make turns take significantly longer. Random numbers are pretty slow when you do enough of them. I would think that you would probabpy gener
One thing I have not seen mentioned here is that a ship can only target 1 other ship at a time. I was facing Yor fleets with every (medium) ship having 40-60+ beam attack, even the troop transports! This means that every one of these ships pretty much killed any of my ships in one shot in battle, regardless of the size (no Dreadnaughts yet). This 'defensive' tactic worked really well because I was honesly scared of going up agains these fleets. <img src="http://images.stardock.com/gc2/T_DL
Suck up to your neighbours, make friends, ensure that your enemies are enemies of your friends. That saved me sometimes, but only 1.5 planets is a bit tough I'd think. Also use influence to try to capture other planets, that is possible without making other races too angry at you.
Wouldn't it be nice to get some bias in the tech development for every race. i.e.: If a race spends a lot of time researching a specific weapon tech then that line of the tech tree becomse cheaper because of the affinity that race has with that topic, and other topics become more expensive. This means that it becomes beneficial to really focus on a certain play style, and development policy.
But attacking with an inferior force in Galciv is just plain suicide, you don't mean to say that you do that a lot do you? I don't mean you need a huge military force, but I mean that I pick my battles such that I am fairly confident I'll win (like attacking a freighter or a lone fighter if I don't have a large enough force to attack a fleet). For this reason the most interesting battles would be the onese that my opponent picks <img src="http://images.stardock.com/gc2/T_DL/smiles/Smile.gif"
I have been wishing for all this too. It would be great to have nebula that block sensors so you cannot see what is on the other side (like hills) or that slow travel (like hills) or decrease specific weapons (beams useless in electric storms, or missiles becoming too slow to be useful in gravitational fields) Just read up on some popular 'this-is-how-the-universe-works' publications to get some inspiration (like Stephen Hawkins' books). Terrain like this would be great. But mo
that reminds me of a quote from Alladin:" WHOOOO DISSTURRRRBS MY SLUMBERRRRRR!" sorry about bothering you with that.
