Can we set it up so that if I leave the UP council I can still set up trade routes with the outlaw (minor) houses? The enemy of my enemy is my friend sort of thing? That way I'm not damned if I do and damned if I don't when they demand my tech as payment to keep my ability to trade? Thanks for a Great Game! D.A.

That's true...I hadn't looked at it the trade route way...was just annoyed when the guys I'm fighting suddenly upgraded from their best (corvette) to my best (battleship)...really hurt my war effort as you can guess... It's happened in every single game I've played (5 so far)...and either 2 or 3 times in one of them... I still enjoy the hell outta the game though.... Big Thanks to Stardock and Strategy First!
So I either give up my tech lead 2 or 3 times during the game....or give up > half my income.... The welfare state has arrived in GalCiv...
Aye, I lost the tech at first...but you are missing my point that I shouldn't lose out on all trade possibilities because some (the UP council) shun me...there are just as many civilizations (see minor races) that don't belong to the UP council....they should trade fine with me.
Why when I remove myself from the UP (to avoid them taking my copious tech) do I lose the ability to trade with minor races (those who hate UP anyway...and should laud my opinion to not give them tech?) I find that more than unpleasant....why in the heck should they benefit from my gung-ho tech attitude because the majority thinks they need it? Other than this I find the game engrossing and find myself missing sleep like the old days with MOOII :) Thanks!
