I'm glad to hear about the larger map size, but probably not for the reason most people think. My favorite maps are gigantic with uncommon or rare stars & planets; I like having lots of empty space between worlds. It makes viable worlds much more valuable (and worthy of taking by invasion or culture), and better simulates the vast distances between stars. The bigger and roomier, the better! All the other features sound great too, especially the differing tech trees, units and buildings.

One of the computers I use for GalCiv2 is an older laptop, and while it runs GalCiv2 reasonably well (battles are choppy), DA won't run at all. I was hoping "+ NEW: Option to use old graphics engine for users of video cards that don't support the DirectX features we're using" meant DA would be using the GalCiv2 graphics. Am I wrong? Am I just screwed in terms of getting DA to run on my laptop? 1.8 Ghz Celeron 256 RAM Intel 82852/82855 chipset (64 MB) Win XP Home<br/

I second the option to randomize special abilities. I know you can give a custom race a particular ability, but randomization (as with alignment and intelligence) would aid replayability.

Do we get a cool little cutscene when the Spore Ship is used against us (at least for the first time?) That would be sweet.

The Torians look like they should be allowed to colonize aquatic worlds at the start.

I was intrigued by this game when it first came out, the breadth of gameplay seemed amazing (the text adventure aspects appealed to me the most!) Money was tight at the time, though, and I eventually forgot about it. Now that Stardock has it, and it has Brad's stamp of approval, and it's under $20, I think I might get it. But, I'll have to try the demo first. Does anyone know the demo limitations? Limited number of turns, limited features, or limited map?

They compared it to Civ4, which also got 5 out of 5. I think they're pretty fair with their reviews and ratings. They know quality when they play it, and they can also identify the same old-same old too. Plus they're funny and smart, and Morgan is very pleasant to look at. X-Play is the only show on G4 I still watch.

There's a way to mod the game so miniaturization is an option when choosing racial bonuses. Look in the modding forum.

2 Questions. 1) Will we eventually be able to modify and create events with GCBuilder? 2) Do you know offhand if, within events, each moral option can affect multiple attributes. Right now each event in events.xml allows a given moral option to affect one attribute plus population; I want to know if, say, a good choice can increase morale while also decreasing production. GCBuilder looks great so far. It's good to know

Question: do political parties have any relevance for the AI, or do they just affect the human player? I ask because I am currently playing a custom insectoid/arachnoid race, and it would be neat to make a set of political parties that reflect that reality. If they ever evolve beyond the Hive Mind (Imperial government).

(I had to remove the symbols 'cause it wasn't displaying properly.) For example, a given event is: Title Pods /Title Description Our scouts report that significant portions of the planet are inhabited by a sentient pod-like creature. These pods bond with other sentient life. Those who are bonded by these pods experience significant physical pain at all times, but have heightened intelligence. What are your orders? /Description Image Gfx\event_pods.png /Imag

Does anyone have any info regarding creating events? Events are one of my favorite aspects of the GalCiv games, but it never feels like there are enough of them for my tastes. GalCiv 1 eventually had a slew of user-created events, but in my last game of GalCiv 2 I had numerous duplicate events - there are just too few. So questions are: what are the variables that can be affected by events? How many variables can be affected per choice? Do I

Hi everyone. Uncertain if my laptop would run GalCiv2 I went ahead and bought it anyway. Happily, it runs pretty well (I have Intel Extreme graphics w/ 32 MB vid mem) although I get the occasional slowdown. I know I can turn textures and explosions on and off to improve performance, but I'm wondering if there's a chance to implement an intermediate option. I don't know what kind of textures are used - 16 bit or 32 bit. If they are 32 bit, what's the ch

I think I read that events have returned for GalCiv2. Have they been expanded upon? Do they have more effects this time? Are they still easy to edit & create? Lookin' good so far!
