Which one is it? Either LAN isn't supported, or LAN will be supported eventually and the game is being released in an unfinished state. Take your pick.
You're bitching and moaning because Stardock have said they might make the game more awesome post-release. Seriously. Quit being dicks, everyone. You know it won't have "OMG PROPER LANZ0RZ" at release and the boss of the company has said it's something they're lookin

I don't know that I'll ever want or need to use it but I do like that you're going to start offering up to date physical copies of the game. I may even get a "Year 1" copy just to put in with my Limited Edition. Depending on how much the shipping charge is to Australia for a single DVD. :D Really don't care about the quibbling over LAN/not-LAN junk. If you really want to play it multiplayer with people in the same room you just need to plan accordingly, like you do with any other game

Would it be possible to tag wildlife type monsters with Carnivore, Herbivore or Omnivore to influence their responses? Carnivores and Omnivores might be more inclined to attack fleshy troops while Herbivores would be more inclined to flee unless they're cornered? This would sidestep the issue of setting up specific animal enemies like cats and dogs - though that could also be done for specific instances - but still

The AI still has an advantage - whenever the current spell queue is finished it won't forget to check for something else to learn. Humans still will! It also won't get bored casting enchantments on every unit it produces, or throwing volcanoes around or what have you. But I'm not sure infinite patience counts as cheese. (And Simpsons quotes ftw. :D )

Description : Outdated units seem fated to be used as cannon fodder at present, with seemingly no path to upgrading them being available? Perhaps this is already supported but is not obvious in the UI? Suggestion : Add an "Action" button to standard units called "Upgrade" or "Change Equipment". This button should be greyed out while the unit is in the wilderness and only active whilst in a town. Clicking the Upgrade button would then bri

Description : When using the Unit Designer you can click on an existing unit and select "Upgrade" which loads the current unit into the Designer and you can adjust that units equipment from there. However you're not really "upgrading" that unit, you're creating a new unit based off of that design. That's a very useful function to have, since it will save time when you gain the ability to create newer items and you want your troops to have them, but your existin

Thanks for the details on what's in and what's out. :) With Custom Game disabled how do we go about starting an MP game with AI opponents as you mentioned the other day? Or should I just wait less than 24 hours and ask if I can't find the button? :)
Playing against the AI is also a good test in multiplayer because you have to connect to an AI on one of our servers.
Thankyou thankyou thankyou. :) Honestly, I probably wasn't going to try a multiplayer game in this beta because the MP side of things isn't as interesting to me, but if I can help with the MP stuff without having to deal with other people... well, thankyou! ;)

NPC Name: Mythor Two Screenshot from Sovereign Selection Screen: http://dl.dropbox.com/u/7443198/mythor-two.jpg Backstory: This erratic but brilliant younger sibling of Mythor One has felt overshadowed by his big brother's achievements all his young life. Now that he too is of an age to head out into the world, all that will change... Though his keen intellect and imposing presence may be insufficient to counter a life destined for a bad end. Sidenote: I don't actually

I like the idea of Background/History to your Channeler, but I'd also like to see an option that is essentially "No bonuses/maluses". In other words, "No particular background" or a "Jack of All Trades, Master of None" style background. I think the History can also tie-in with the Weaknesses. Using the Mason example, you could be just an average, run of the mill Mason, which might cost 1 "point" and give you a 10% construction bonus. Or you could have been a particularly adept M

Please make the "no popups" preference in the client persist between client updates. So I don't have to bitch and bitch and bitch about it like I did the Impulse "fast start" background process. :P Otherwise, sounds like a good idea. :)

"like of the world loading but just being the cloth and that's it" That's all that's in the beta. Did you not read any of the multiple posts from Frogboy saying that it's cloth map only? He did make quite a few of them and made it very clear it'll be cloth map only for quite some time!

Stardock runs on (American) Eastern Standard Time, as far as I know. Making it around 3am there, I believe? I wouldn't expect it before 9am their time and more likely some time during the day, after the last little checks are made and whatnot. I'm sure as soon as it's available people on the forums/chat will be talking about it though. :)

The point is to manage people's expectations towards the beta. If you tell people over and over and over that the first beta will not be fun and then they play the beta and don't find it fun then those few who complain just have something wrong with their heads. ;) Frogboy said the first beta of Demigod wouldn't be fun either, but it was alright. Nowhere near as much fun as the finished product, of course. I'm expecting Elemental to be much the same - kinda fun but lacking the depth a
I doubt they'll be using OpenGL; SD has historically been a windows based company, which means directX.
"Historically" you'd be wrong as they started on OS/2. ;) Can't see why they'd develop the game on OpenGL though, not when GalCiv2 runs on DirectX and that's their most recent game.

Master of Magic did in fact support some level of player customisation. I can't recall if it let you choose different bonuses for your civilization's race but it certainly let you choose the exact makeup of your spellbook library. So your Mage's spellbook might have had 3 Life spellbooks and 6 Chaos books while your opponents might've been 6 Nature, 2 Death and 1 Sorcery. For people worried about the "OMG BETA WON'T BE FUN" thing, Frogboy said the first Demigod beta wouldn't be fun eit

Yes I just updated and am now getting that same error message on startup. It also never used to be a "community preview beta", I seem to remember it being released as free software originally.[e digicons]-_-[/e]

Will we be able to save a specific set of starting conditions and random seed to email to friends or share via the Elemental-Metaverse or just replay because it happened to be a really fun game? To explain more clearly, could I set up a game for myself and friends to play through in SP, individually, but each of us have the exact same starting conditions, landmasses, enemy AI, etc? Without Ye Olde Kludge of saving the game as soon as it's loaded and sharing the savegame around. ;)

Steam actually goes faster than me... but to be fair, that's because my ISP is one of the local Steam content servers. ;) Am generally very impressed with the speeds Impulse gets though, even as an overseas user. Downloading anything particularly big is always going to take a while but at least I'm not cursing at it only using 10% of my speed. :)
