I think the idea of linked phase inhibitors preventing hostile jumping could have merit. It would force players to attack a particular target (the inhibitor) before advancing, which would allow you to arrange your defenses usefully. Turret ranges are so short as to be relatively useless against a player, compared to the AI which will stupidly fly into them. Basically you could do to the player what is already the optimal strategy against the AI.
Add a domination victory condition.
I think this is a great idea to have as an option, particularly as a way to shorten multiplayer games somewhat if desired.
I would suggest Venus through Saturn. Uranus and beyond are pretty far out from the Sun, and Mercury is too small.
Can you post the best beta feedback you get? I wanna see the comments like "The diplomacy is alright, but I wish the game didn't make you manage planets, and didn't take place in space."
I only wish I could get all that nosound dosbox nonsense to make MOO work for me. Not that I'd want to play without sound anyway. I mean... come on! What's MOO without the beat of the News Network reports? Shields got you down? That sounds like a job for sabotage.
I played FFXI for awhile, and it was a lot of fun, but also required large blocks of time for party play. Now that I've graduated college I can't really play anymore, so that's out the door. I tried World of Warcraft, and it was fun for about ten levels and then the wheels sort of came off the treadmill. But that was back in the beta so maybe it's better now, although I'm not inclined to try it again while the end-game is apparently so time-intensive (that's why I quit FFXI, right?). Guild W
If you're looking for a deterministic strategy board game, you might try Go. Despite the obvious similarities, it's very different from chess on many levels, and might suit you better.
I guess he wants the battle to last awhile.
I played and loved BG&E on Xbox. Everyone owes it to themselves to play this game. It's one of those few shining examples of videogames being art as well as entertainment. Plus it has the bonus of being 20 hrs or so long, which is roughly the same length as your average adventure/RPG once you've cut out the useless filler.
Personally, I think the original Master of Orion is highly underrated by the TBS community. MOO was much simpler in some ways, with planets controlled by simple sliders (allocate spending to research, industry, ship-building, defensive structures or ecology/population). Technological research was handled similarly with spending allocated to six or so different tech fields (Computers, Weapons, Propulsion, etc). Ships were sent from star to star (no "solar systems" or hanging out in deep space)
I'd like to see a third party campaign. Play as an independent or 3rd or custom party, and over the course of a few elections try to increase your standing. You shouldn't be able to become president in the first run. Maybe just try to hit the points where you get more funding, automatic ballot access, etc. As far as alternate maps, I'd like to see state governor elections. That'd be something different. If maps of states, with counties ma
