Hi, I generally play every second game (gigantic map genius level) with the Altarians to exploit their ridiculous tech abilities and this time decided in the one in-between to play the evil Drengin. With plenty of planets to settle, I was able to use the evil ideology tree to boost my production and then get my free transports and was soon merrily slaughtering my neighbours. (getting 2500 gold and 15 ideology points every time I took a planet).
Using lycan371's tip has made all the difference, Richard
Hi Richard, V glad it worked. It's a bit icky having them benevolent but presumably robots have no reason to consider themselves "evil". As to the different ideology trees that colinm1305 mentioned yes I personally prefer the benevolent one - though with the pragmatic one you can make awesome starbase nests round your home planet in the mi

Hi Richard, I see no reason why the Yor should be considered evil and have tried instead playing them as "Benevolent". The basic problem with them in the opening is getting enough population and while they can't build Tyron's destiny after researching planetology (which gives a colony ship with 5 pop) if you choose Benevolent then the first three ideologies on the top line are extremely helpful. The first gives you a colony ship of which you can unload all but 1

Hi (I just tried a longer post on this subject but it seems to have got lost - apologies if it now appears and this is a du[plicate) The latest iteration with scores in the millions seems very random to me and I was wondering if people have some idea how it works. In my last two games I played on gigantic maps first as the evil Krynn. With moves taking nearly an hour each I bailed out after nearly 30 hours on turn 162 with the Ascension Gate having 357 co

Hi, I've suddenly got a game freeze which I can only end by using the task manager to kill the game. Here's a link to the save: https://drive.google.com/file/d/1IzHuckmXE8AcU59hWCIjNfjnoPXOquwX/view?usp=sharing If you (or at least I) take the fleet next to Fedyadarus 1 and try to destroy the shipyard - or indeed the enemy ship next to the shipyard - then the freeze occurs.. I validated local files and restarted but it's still happening. Ple

Hi Rhonin, Many thanks for getting back to me so quickly. No I'm mot using any mods. And after I updated steam and it started working again then all files validated. I looked again and the design has just changed. Main weapons are in blue and auxiliary ones in orange. However, If you look at the second image then the tool tip says that pulse cannons use durantium. I imagine that an old file get used in the build by mistake because I have a vag

Hi, I recently started a new game with the opt-in v4.2 (as the Iconians). In the tech tree the tooltips now don't mention any of the resourceless weapons (like Mass Drivers rather than Pulse Cannons) and also suggest that kinetic weapons now use durantium rather than thulium. However after researching pulse cannons I found that Mass Drivers were still there and are resourceless and than pulse cannons use thulium as previously. I then used unlock in

Hi, I thought I'd try playing as the Snathi for a change but apparently they start with 2300 gold rather than the standard 5000 (at genius level). I restarted and got 2300 again. I can't find this documented (tried googling galciv3 starting gold but perhaps missed the right page). Is this some feature which I've missed or a bug? (Perhaps minor races start with 2300 and it's got confused?) Cheers, Jon &nb
not related but you can toggle repeat project on aid economy and ignore that planet for the rest of the game quite easily.
Many thanks Charch, I simply hadn't noticed when they added that button. It'll save me hours of mild irritation. Cheers, Jon
this is disappointing. I like several class 16 planets, or even that rare class 26. These are amazing. Not many are in the galaxy but when you find one it's like a hidden treasure. Then again I also enjoy upgrading the planets to 63 with the artifacts... I personally love managing my planets individually, I like control, I can't stand turning over a good portion of my empire to smaller auto managed states...&nb

Actually I've just looked at a previous save and of course these are Iconian planets I captured with loads of extra stored goods due to the triple manufacturing. I hadn't noticed previously because I had nothing to build until I unlocked more terraforming techs. So nothing to see really. Cheers, Jon

Hi, Quite a nice bug but suddenly a number of my planets have got huge supplies of stored goods in them. I don't know if this is one of the perks that the AI has which has mistakenly been transferred to me but include a screenshot of a planet with 60ish production which suddenly has >5000 in. Has anybody else experienced this? I can supply a save but when I re-load the game the oversupply remains so the bug must have occurred previously. Cheers,

What an excellent question. No it's fine without the beta. I then tried to load the saves which I'd made with the beta with it rolled back and they crashed the same way (as rather expected). Has somebody been playing with the map sizes again or am I being overly suspicious? Many thanks for your help Rhonin. I'll finish this game without the beta and then reload the beta to start a new game sometime later. Cheers, Jon &n

Hi, I started posting in another thread but was asked by Rhonin_the_Wizard to start a new one. When I tried to load a saved game yesterday it crashed. After the save itself, I tried the the first and second autosaves and the initial file of the game all with the same result. This was with a gigantic map and after validating and reacquiring files, I started a test game with a huge one I was able to save the initial position and then reload without a problem. I the

Hi again, No it's the same after rebooting. Here's a link to the full debug.err https://drive.google.com/file/d/12C33DLv_695SxnT_kPa1qbp__0uymnA9/view?usp=sharing I can upload a save too but they were were working fine a couple of days ago so I don't think it's that. Cheers Jon

Hi, I've suddenly got crashes on loading and tried different saves which all behaved the same. The error file debug.err gives its final line as DebugMessage: Overran end of MemBuffer. so clearly it's some sort of memory problem. This is the debug info once the load starts: Debug Message: LOADING GAME: C:\Users\Jonathan\Documents\My Games\GC3Crusade\Saves\\Altarians_Retr25 04 mv 111.GC3Crusade Debug Message:&

Hi, I'm afraid I don't have a link to this one. Many moves ago, I was terraforming a tile on my home world (Altaria) when I cashed in the extra tile ideology (benevolent top row four along), By chance this chose the tile I was in the midst of terraforming and I happened to notice since I was wondering whether my luck was in with the random(?) choice. I therefore cancelled that terraform but have no idea what would have happened if I hadn't - maybe some sort of memory cra

Hi, In my latest game as the glorious Altarians (I love their late game science) I've encountered what presumably is a bug. I have surrendering colonies turned on and am at version 4.1. At one point two civs I was at war with both surrendered. The Korath gave all their assets to the Iconians and then immediately afterwards the Measured gave all their assets to the Korath! The outcome was that as a principled benevolent bod i didn't want to got to war with the Iconians
