Background info I love Start8. I've recommended it to many people. I have it on all my 5 computers (2 desktops at each of two locations, plus a laptop). I will be upgrading to Windows 10 as soon as I can (July 29) As far as I can understand Windows 10's new Start menu doesn't allow hierarchical folders like Win 7 did. I have 765 start menu items in 259 folders so you can see why I badly need this! Questions

I am fairly certain that when I bought Start8 I read the same text that DonRay posted above. I follow the rules and I remember thinking this was good. It also sounded friendly, and I felt friendly back! Unless you have an archive of old versions of the FAQs, it is not possible to prove it one way or the other. A question please. Does any version of the product "phone home" after it has activated successfully? Some other postings imply that it does, what are the facts please. (

Thank you DonRay for digging out exactly what I remember reading. I liked the terms Stardock gave, they suited me perfectly. And I liked the way they were written. This was one of the reasons I recommended it to others. I am very unhappy to think of all the people who have installed it on my personal recommendation, who may now be having problems. The suggestion by "the_Monk" that I balk at paying $5 per machine is unfair and ridiculous and nothing to do with what has happened here. I

I've deactivated it on my laptop and then reinstalled 1.41 - when I get back to the other two machines I'll do the same with them. I also have ModernMix on two machines, only one was upgraded and I'll deactivate and revert that one too. I admit I never read the EULA - who does? But I do remember being told it was fine to install on all my personal machines. Is 5 personal computers really so unusual in the 21st century?

I was one of the first people to buy Start8. I remember clearly the website said I could use it on all my machines - this is personal only not business use. I have 5 machines, Two each at two houses plus a laptop for travel. Everything has been great until V1.45 and I have recommended the product to dozens of people. I am a good customer. Now I installed 1,45 on two or three machines but on the next it refuses to accept the licence saying it is registered to another machine. I now see

I just tried it with my laptop, which has Start8 1.11 and doesn't have ModernMix. Same problem. So this is a bug in Start8. Please, Stardock, can you take a look at it? Instructions to see bug: 1. Start from desktop. 2. Press Window key. 3. Click on any ModernUI app and it runs full screen. 4. Press Window key. 5. I'm back at the dektop but the Start8 menu has opened when it shouldn't. 6. If I press Esc instea

I am running Start8 1.12 and ModernMix 1.0a. I use a classic IBM keyboard and use Keytweak to define the right Ctrl key as the Left Window key. This is probably not relevant but I thought I should mention it. I have Start8 set so that the Left Window key toggles to the Modern UI and pressing it again takes me back to the desktop. This has been working perfectly for ages. For example. 1. Start from desktop. 2. Press Window key. 3. Press Window ke

I am very happy indeed with the 1.09 beta (which says it is v1.1 beta in the About). My start menu folders all open instantly and everything is OK. I would not contemplate changing from Defender - it is the same program as MSE, which was also excellent. They just changed the name - the name of the executable is still the same, and its optional parameters are the same.
as a work around, I added C:\Program Files (x86)\Stardock\Start8 to the location whitelist in defender because I trust this location. no worries from then on.
That does not work. It probably appeared to work to you because once you had opened the folder once it was then fast. But reboot and you will see the problem again.

I just tried going into Defender's setup and excluding the Start Menu folder and the Start Menu\Programs folder biut it made no difference. I think it does not exclude subfolders, and it would take forever to exclude each subfolder. I tried turning real time protection off and that does work. Then there is only a tiny delay. So it is an interaction with Defender. It can take almost 10 seconds for a submenu to open. It then seems to get faster but I think it also gets slowe

I posted this as a support ticket three days ago but had no reply. I have a lot of applications installed so I have all my shortcut folder organised neatly. Fo example under a top level folder call Utilities I have about 20 folders for different utility applications. And many under Photography and so on. When I click Start and than All Programs the list of top level folders comes up at once. But when I click on Utilities I have to wait about 5 to 10 seconds before anythin
