Interesting, Night Train, thanks... Can anyone comment who has the latest version?

I've trying to upgrade to Windowblinds 5 lately, but the process has been difficult, to say the least. One thing that I've found is that these 8 skins in my collection all crash WB 5 immediately when you try to load the skin. The skin never even gets loaded, just clicking on it once (to see the preview) causes WB5 to crash. Antares Apogee Colony DinksDX Blue G-Pod MetalX2 SexPistons What is the
Well, I've gotten screens that look like that too, and I installed my legal copy of WB5 through SDC. In my case, it doesn't happen on every skin, but it can happen under certain circumstances. Also in my case the PC only locks/is sluggish for 20-30 seconds. Clearly not every installation of WB that exhibits similar behaviour is pirated.
Thanks to Neil for shedding some light on this long-standing issue. I do think it would be very nice if WFX shadows and WB skins with transparent (either per-pixel or magic pink) could be made to get along better. The WFX shadows are actually more important to me than the fancy transitions (which cause a lot of apps to have issues; look no further than the WB config screen to see an example), and it has been problematic trying t
A followup, Neil... I had occasion to reboot after my previous post, and NOW the tooltip says: WindowBlinds 4.5 However, selecting "About Windowblinds" from the tooltip reports: 4.6 (build 214) SDC says the version installed is 4.60.048 Thanks...
Yes, that is correct, Neil. (BTW I have never installed shareware or even standalone WB. It's always been from SDC (or component manager before that). The screen offers me WB for $19.95 etc... The tooltip says exactly: WindowBlinds 4 (4.6 (build 214)) Thanks....
Thanks for your reply Zubaz. I am running 4.60 now and there is no "System Info" option. I did see that option in 5.01 though.
Well, I own WB through Object Desktop, and I see the "purchase reminder" screen too. I used to have WB 4.60.048 installed and everything was fine: no nags, no crashes. I then used Stardock Central to uninstall 4.60, rebooted, and installed WB 5.01.006. I found that 5.01 crashed (in the wbconfig screen) as soon as I clicked on one of several skins that WB4 had no problems with (such as Antares or Apogee), so I wanted to downgrade. I used SDC to uninstall 5.01
Chris TH, Koasati was kind enough to let me know you were looking for me. I've posted for you over on the comments page for my moon-phase indicator... Cheers, -wer
Well, if your Event viewer is working, it's not the problem I was thinking of. I've seen the installation of Icon Packager 3 (on XPsp2) permanently remove administrative priviledges from a userid, even if that user is in the Administrators group; this causes Event Viewer and Device Manager to report errors when they're run, and causes some games to stop functioning. The only way I've found to fix that problem is System Restore. If you can fix your problem simply
I have a theory, but I need a little information... Are you on XP? Is your user ID a member of the Administrators group? This will sound weird, but try to run Event Viewer and clear an event log... Then try to use device manager... If you try to do something like that, what happens? Does everything work normally?
Brad has been kind enough to from time to time give us a peek at what WB5 will be like running on Windows Vista, and there have been some allusions to things like "better skinning than ever before" and such, but now that a pre-release of WB5 is about to be made available and Stardock has Vista, there were a couple of things I was wondering about. My intent is to shine some light on how things will be when running Vista WITH WB5, not just Vista alone.<
On the 28th. (And again on the 29th for good measure.) It's good to know it's not a scam at least. Mabey they're just having email problems. I emailed their support people, so hopefully they'll send along a code.
They collected 3 different email addresses from me, but I haven't received the promised activation code. My addresses were on 3 different domains, hosted at 3 different ISPs. If not one of them received the email, it's because it wasn't sent. Has anyone else received their code from this "offer"?
Well it's been a couple of weeks and nothing yet... If someone could at least confirm that they are or are not seeing the problem I described above, that would be a big help... Am I the only one missing those options? (Lucky me!) Or is everyone missing them but nobody cares? Thanks a lot!
That begs the question of why democratic governments favour anonymous ballots. In real life, politics is considered by many to be a life or death matter. This can lead to severe consequences in the real world for divergent political opinions: discrimination in the workplace, threat of violence, vandalism, etc. With Wincustomize being a virtual community, the downside to one's vote becoming known is minimal, since people's lives and livelihood are no
I don't think an anonymous rating system simply benefits 'cowards'....what it DOES do is eliminate retalliatory ratings, good OR bad. Not really... It reduces ratings given in retaliation for other ratings (you can't retaliate against someone you can't identify) but it encourages every other form of r
I agree with you 100% AP_67. And although Paul has a good point that with so many members there are bound to be divergent opinions, it is just as true that with so many members there are bound to be a lot of jerks. There have been some good suggestions as to how to solve this problem. As for not being able to rate a skin you haven't downloaded, this is
It works correctly, except for problems introduced by the subject of this thread. Under earlier versions of DX 3 there were some other problems which were corrected when DX was patched.
To quote from the 'Relationships' section of the DX3 developer's guide: Start with 'Start with' defines the way in which a user interacts with an object. It is not always the case that you want a user to have to click an object to activate it. In addition to the standard 'Default' option, you have four more ways in which a user can interact with the object. Sometimes for example you may simply want the user to move over an object for
Happy Birthday Matt! Will you and the hound have a night out on the town to celebrate?
Usually you click the location, and then enter the location code (such as a US zip code, or 8-character weather.com code). If you don't use a weather object that supports looking up the location by name, you'll need to look up the code for Vienna. Weather objects by Tiggz and my LookingGlass objects are some that will just let you type in the name "Vienna, Austria". Search the DX Objects library for "LookingGlass" to see the various versions available.
Boxxi, with any contest, generally the employees and their families of the sponsor are ineligible. In this case I would take that to be all stardock and wincustomize employees, and admins and moderators would be considered the same whether they're paid or not. Mabey people have a different view of what should happen here, but that would be the general case. Besides, the moderators have control over the upload queue. If the mods are in the contest and judging the queue at the same time, you j
Someone may have already thought of this, but it's up to the moderators to ensure that the skinners at Journeyman level and above don't enjoy an unfair advantage. Specifically, a journeyman can submit a new skin, and it is automatically posted, and goes to the top of the library. A lower level skinner must wait for moderation (sometimes days) before his skin is posted. Further, a journeyman could continually make improvements in his skin, resetting the update date each time, keeping h
Well anyway, we've gotten a bit off topic but it was a nice chat. To get back to it, I think Frogboy's proposal was an excellent one, and I support it. Cheers, -Will
