I wish there was a way to truly terraform all those useless 0 value planets... But then again since there's no apparent distinction between the gas giants and the rock planets I daresay it isn't possible. G.

This may have been mentionned before... The UI behaves annoyingly in the Tech screen - it doesn't seem to remember its sorting selection; whenever I choose a tech to research I always choose to sort by 'category'. If I exit and come back it's no longer organized by category so I have to select another sorthing method then come back to category. Every time. Quite annoying. Oh and renaming stars - no offense Brad but Wardell Star next

Well after further testing there is definately a problem with how your editor interprets the CustomPlanets.XLM file. I created a test map with only 2 star systems: the Sol system and the Altair system. Whenever I start the game using this map as the humans I do get the Sol System with five planets but I do not start on Sol 3 and all planets are habitable. And in fact the home planet does not even use the proper texture - which means I don't see the Earth map. Add to that what

Make it crash with that error and send me a copy of the 'debug.log' file in the directory you installed GC2:Builder into. Also a copy of your modified GC2Types.xml would be great so I can compare. All the relevant files were sent. G.

raceconfig.xml is best edited in notepad, by rewriting the values to whatever you want. I love making the humans start out as evil every game, because the dialogue is more fun Yes except for the Minors. I don't know if you've tried but changing their home star system/homeworld is not reflected in the

First error msg: Failed to load /path/data/english/GC2Types.xlm.... The file is there though I've edited it extensively so if your program is looking for specific values... When trying to run the "Inside GC2" I get an access violation 004F3A78 in module GC2builder.exe 00000000 at 50% load. I press ok and it completes. The GC2Types is empty... linked with the first isue I guess. Opening the map editor is ok but when

Mmm I thought we could attach files ... Anyway here's my own TradeGoods Mod. Simply cut & paste the relevant entries in your PlanetImprovements.XLM file. I've added 2 new tradegoods and modified the rest (increasing the price - changing the required tech or the effects). G. ----- There are 14 tradegoods now - those new or modified are bolded: 1- Xinathium Hull Plating 2- Diplomatic Translators 3- Gravity Accelerators 4- Axlotl

*bump* Anyone else - any developer - has some answers ? I can't go on modding without answers ! G.

Oh and while I'm at it and I've got this thread active. I made extensive changes in the SHIPS and TYPES XLMs to slow down the early game. I've noticed several similar variables in both files. What is the organizational logic for those variables ? Which supersedes which ? If any... ? For instance the Survey ship has a number of parts assigned to it and in the PARTS file each has its effects detailed. For the hull type,

Oh there it is ... I positively loathe this forum software Anyhow regarding the RACECONFIG file again.; on top of the file there's a remark to ignore /ignore almost all the variables listed further down. I presume this is to allow for whatever pick the player chooses when starting a game and yet some of those things set to be ignored I've

It appear this post was *not* created in the GalCivII\Modding sub-forum as I selected it to be but in the general forum... without being dislayed there either. Wonderful technology this forum package ... G.

I'm attempting to post again - the previous ones seem to have disappeared. So I edited RaceConfig.XLM to change the starting techs for each civs... to no effect. They retain whatever was there before. Same thing with the Minors which I want to have realistic starting home systems. However that particular change worked fine with the Majors. Is there any other file impacting/superceding the racial profile that I should look for ?<br/

I've successfully edited the RaceConfig & CustomPlanets XLMs to assign fixed (and reel) starting star systems for the players. It worked fine for the majors but for the minors they keep reverting to Scottlingas Star for the Scottlingas and so on - instead of Vega with a specific et of planets as I changed it. However in the same Raceconfig file I also changed the minor leaders' names and that reflects correctly in game. Is there any other file t

What I'd like is for the game to use a map I'd make (with proper star names & placement) and randomly generate the planets for those pre-set star locations. Is that even possible ? G.

Thank you CariElf. That's the kind of answer I was looking for. The other sanctimonious fools should model their attitude on you. G.

Well after spending an hour adding the appropriate custom star systems matching those listed in the raceconfig for all minors and testing it - the game still generate random systems for said minors... Something else controls this... unless - doh! - it's hardcoded ... Aggravation is me ! G.

- What file controls the allocation of the bonus on planetary tiles ? - Is there any other file - other than RaceConfig.XLM that controls the home star system/home planets of the *minors* ? I've changed all the major Civs - giving them *real* star systems instead of the stupid ones they were given. But when it comes to the minors, editing that XLM doesn't do it. I'm thinking I'll have to add appropriate entries in the CustomPlanets.

Perhaps non related (and perhaps addressed elsewhere) but is it possible to export one's ships designs ? Designing a ship is very time consuming and to my knowledge there's no way to keep those designs for other games... G.

The wonder is that one wasn't included in the initial package... I mean there was a map/scenario editor in the previous game. One would imagine the next game would built on its predecessor' strenghts. Oh silly me ! Of course they had to save money during design and will publish it later to milk more cash *rolleyes* G.
