The real interesting one IMO will be Windows 8 vs Windows 7. Will people embrace Windows 8 or will there be howls of protest and people digging in their heels about upgrading...
Does anyone have any plot predictions for Book 3?
Yep. I'm suspecting Dread Lord influence behind Tresia. The invulnerability thing's hella suspicious and that sort of behind the scenes manipulation would be very much their style. Which is kind of a shame because it lets Jordan off the hook for what WAS a cold-blooded assassination of a political figure - it was just luck that it didn't ignite a
I'm pretty sure that you need a placed spy if you hope to steal tech from another civ. But maybe that changed so you only need at least one on civ-wide duty. Been a while since I played lots.
Do they EVER steal techs? I'm mostly playing campaign so far but I have NEVER seen a spy steal a technology no matter how many of them I throw at an empire. (I really had hoped for some juicy Dread Lord ones, too...)

Hmm, so 50:50 with an added suggestion of Tournament Scenarios (which sound essentially like single-scenario campaigns). I still have to play through ToA, when I've done that I think I'll develop a campaign and some Tournament Scenarios. I already have some ideas... Thanks. [EDIT] P.S. How hard do people think a campaign should be? About as hard as the existing campaigns? Or harder?

Hmm, I think qrtxian's winning. :) I have another one: In the Dark Avatar campaign I had to capture the planet Dithir (I think it's immediately after the one after where you have to plant spies on Dithir). After bunkering down, barely surviving the Dread Lord's repeated attempts to wipe me from the map I worked my way up the tech tree until I could build a huge Battleship, packed to the brim with Doom Rays. Oh yeah! :) So I bought one. I
Quoting unacomn, reply 66I understand that, but in DX1 you could short-circuit certain events, like plating a bomb under Anna Navare and saying bye bye, or just skipping over certain situations, like the hostage rescue in the subway. You can't really do things like that in Human Revolution. It's a much more linear progression that doesn't allow you to screw with the plot. It even keeps all the critical characters locked in cinemati

I notice from the Screenshot that you gave the Asgard a +10 population bonus. Given that they're a dying race, a penalty would be more appropriate, IMO. P.S. Why do people keep saying that the Library is down? It seems to work okay for me...

I'd potentially enjoy working on a new campaign for GalCiv2, but it's a bit of a waste of time if noone's playing Campaigns anymore. I notice that there don't seem to be any custom campaign mods in this forum and people seem more interested in sandbox. Would it be a waste of time? Yea or nay. ty. :)

I thought it might be fun to have a thread for all those "oops" moments you've had in GalCiv. (Or am I the only one who's had several? [e digicons][/e] ). In a cunning bid to conserve resources and to flaunt my high levels of miniaturisation, I built a tiny hull with the intent of turning it into a freighter. I loaded it with Support modules and sent it off to a distant alien world with the intent of turning it into a freighter when it got there

I'm playing an old, open source, programming, fleet battle game called GalaxyHack (http://galaxyhack.sourceforge.net/) at the moment. In GalaxyHack, spaceships are sprites and you can add graphics just by adding a .png graphic file of the appropriate dimensions. You can also download and upload custom fleets. (You can probably already see where this is going). If I were to make ships in GalCiv2, take screenshots, and crop the spaceship, would it

MalwareBytes ( www.malwarebytes.org/) This thing (the freeware version, though there's also a paid one with realtime protection) cleared up a really annoying browser hijacker that Spybot and AdAware seemed unable to locate and deal with. Note: When I was infected with the browser hijacker, it was devious enough to notice my search for MalwareBytes and to redirect that search to its own (presumably full of malware) download page! So if you

I was just thinking about this again, and I wonder if this really reflects a preference for "campaign-style" play vs "multiplayer-style" play. I quite enjoy campaign play where the game is almost always heavily imbalanced - that's part of the challenge. But sandbox is essentially a multiplayer game where all but one of the players are AIs. And in multiplayer games there's an expectation that the game will be "fair". An unbalanced Sandbox would be more campa

I posted this elsewhere and got told it'll never happen in GalCiv2 soooo: [e digicons][/e] Salvage - fleet battles sometimes* leave behind anomalies that can be harvested for bc (and sometimes even technology that was used by the destroyed ships?) * = where "sometimes" is proportional to the size of the battle.

I was thinking about Survey ships. They're extremely useful in the early-to-mid game but end up just sitting around uselessly after that. Then I thought about all that wreckage floating in space in the aftermath of a clash of mighty fleets. Hmm. Wouldn't it add an interesting tactical element to the game if destroyed fleets left remains that could be salvaged for money and maybe even technology by a survey vessel?

Two questions: (1) As a person who knows very little about the navy (or military in general) what is a "DD/CL/CA/BB/DBB style system"? What do they stand for? And what do designations like "Cruiser" and "Battleship" mean? (2) The above conversation seems to imply that if you go into battle with a fleet of identical ships the damage will be roughly spread evenly across your entire fleet. Is this generally beneficial? It seems like you'd come out of a
