Ok,Why is it when i shift the production to research on my home planet i see no decrease in research time ? How do you research several techs on the same turn if the research window only allows one research branch at a time to be selected ?

Hi what does the building of research centers do other than increase the research units on that planet ? Does more research centers mean faster research time for less investment in research or what ? If it shift a planets production from social to research what does this do to the research ability ?
