I agree that, no matter how competent the AI can be made to perform, it's still not as satisfying an opponent as a human being. It's because GalCiv is such a great game that I want to play it versus a human opponent. I understand that focusing on single-player made resources available which allowed the game to become what it is. But, now that it's done, I'd love it if an expansion could be made which would implement multiplayer. One other thing--when people say "multiplayer," it ty

Hey Folks, My life has been rather hectic lately, and I don't often have access to the internet. One of the first things I do when I can is check for updates to GC2, so it's current at the moment. I've been experiencing crashes far too often, sometimes, as in the one below, identified as serious events by my computer. Here's the most recent example: [SmartException] LastEx=GALCIV2.EXE File=C:\Program Files\Stardock\SmartException\GALCIV2.EXE_1147314213.CRA
It occurred to me, belatedy, that I should include my system specs: Dell XPS Laptop running WIN XP Home edition, Service Pack 2 3.4 GHz processor 1 GB RAM ATI Mobility Radeon 9700 Anything else you'd like to know, let me know. BTW, at the moment, I can scroll up/down, but not left/right
I had this problem occasionally with GC1, but it seems to be worse with GC2 beta 3: I select a ship, right click on a destination, but the ship heads off to some unknown destination of its own. Right now, I've got a colony ship which simply refuses to head toward the planet I want to colonize. Each turn I left click on the ship, right click on the planet, only to watch it continue to move in the opposite direction. When this happened to me in GC1, I was able to correct it on the turn after i
Lucky Jack, I think I tried the "Enter" key, but I don't remember for sure now. At any rate, I'll have to remember this and make sure I try it if it happens again.
Cari, I did everything I could think of, clicking on the "Find" button, your suggestion above, going to the planet management screen, etc. B y the way, I should have mentioned that it wasn't a typical "hang," in that the game remained responsive in a way--I could scroll around the map, click on ships [altho they would not accept new orders], go to planet mangement, etc., but the "Turn" button just wouldn't come back.
Thanks for the info regarding the invasion screen. I wish pressing the spacebar had occurred to me. As for the other time it hung, I didn't know anything got recorded in the debug.err file unless Smart Exception was activiated. I'll send it as soon as I finish this post.
Hi, I've got the latest build and, after starting twice, I've had the game hang twice, requiring me to Ctl-Alt-Del out. Consequently, I didn't get a Smart Exception file, but I still thought you'd like to hear about it. The first hang came after pressing the "Turn" button. It disappeared, as it always does while processing the turn, but it never reappeared. I waited some time, and finally gave up and terminated the game. I've seen this mentione
I don't understand why anyone would want an unarmed ship to be able to damage one with weapons. I guess I never thought about it much in GC 1, but it seemed to me that pretty much any ship with weapons could take out a construction ship or a colony ship, and, to me, that's the way it ought to be. The idea of some sort of blowback from the deflection of an explosion by the armour isn't very realistic. In the vacuum of space, the force of any explosion would dissipa
Ok. I installed SmartException. Thanks for the tip.
Hi Folks, I assume you want the debug.err files generated while we're testing the beta, but I don't know how you'd like us to go about sending them. Do you want us to send them as email attachments, and, if so, to what address. Obviously, my primary reason for purchasing the beta was so that I could get an early look at the game--which, by the way, is quite intriguing so far--but I'd also like to be helpful in the development process, and, since I have n
I had some sor t of problem with GalCiv which I wanted to get resolved quickly, because I was about to deploy to Afghanistan and I wanted to bring a [working] copy of the game with me on my laptop. CariElf responded to my request and enabled me to get the game running before I left, which I greatly appreciated, as I did her comments about my imminent departure. So, I've been a CariElf fan since then. Glad I found this topic!
