Jeez, you guys don't want much, do you?....just an AI that is as smart and adaptable as a human player. What are you running your games on, a HAL9000?? And multiplayer for a strategy game as layered and complex as GalCiv ABSOLUTELY WILL NOT WORK!
First of all I dont want a HAL9000 AI. Simply an AI that can play with some sembelence of skill with the full tech tree. Le
If the sliders are left at something like 33-33-34 even after research is complete, that would seem not hard to patch.
It doesnt matter what the sliders are at, it's about the AI's planetary improvements. They build extensive research building which then drain cash and produce nothing. Meanwhile I've converted all my research planets and research tile improvements into military production planets.

If you turn technology victory on with the technology speed at anything above normal, it's not even a game. And there is a game option to play with all tech already researched. If you play a very large game with many planets on a very large map, the only way to allow the game to play out in a military fashion is to turn tech victory off. So if what you want is a large military game, you cant get it caues the AI is only good until the tech race is over.</

So I've noticed that in advanced games where the tech tree gets fully researched, the AI never re-tools it's planets. Instead it keeps researching techs that dont exist. This to me seems like a pretty massive oversite and limitiation to the game. In my suicidal game I was able to hold off the competition until I caught up on tech. I examined my opponent's planets and he's all researched out and researching nothing. What a waste. I retoo

im still pretty new, but my suggestions are: keep any race with spore ships from attacking you dont rely on invasion proof planets, kill the spore ships on the way in use a bait planet and continually flip it with them

Another tip for learning is to turn OFF tech trading and tech brokering. Using tech trades is in itself a whole system where there are balances and subtle tricks and things. So leave that out at first and focus on learning to build up your own tech and your planets. Then later once you understand your economy and production and research, you can go back and turn those back on and use trading of tech as yet another advantage. For now though I suggest off to both,

Watch the AI is a great tip. Also strategy has a great deal to do with the map size, number of oppoents, and so on. The way you play on a LARGE map with 9 oppoenents is very different than the way you play on a HUGE map with 5 opponents.

there are many threads giving tips and tricks. Trying browsing the forums for a few hours. Also, just keep playing more games, and keep jacking the difficulty up as you go. Each game you play, you'll learn more. So my advice is: play a game, then browse forums, then play a game, then browse forums, rinse and repeat. In a dozen games or so you'll have a pretty good understanding.
Yes. For example, the Yor start with ion engines. Between them and the other race or races that can colonize non-standard worlds, they will colonize the map and grow large tax-paying populations, much-much-much larger than yours. Another possibility on my list to try is the slowest research rate with a very high research race starting from a 7x research planet. Just maybe one could get ahead of them that way, but they

Here is another stragety. I havent actually tried it yet, but it seems pretty reasonable to me. Play your next game as the Korx and set your tech speed to very slow. With the Korx you're going to get master trade to start with, and your opponents will be probably a year out before they can match you in trade. That should give you a devistating advantage economically in your first year. You'll be able to run your economy very hot, putting in planet upgrades lo

I've seen a lot of people poo-poo the military starbase. I'm still pretty new to the game, but I've had great success with them on the top difficulty levels. Here are some tricks I found: Assist based modules, the ones that add to the attack of your ships, stack. In other words if you have TWO military starbases that have overlapping areas of effect, and both have the SAME assist modules, your fighters in that overlap area are affected by the assist of both
