race modding questions in Modding GalCiv2 Forums

alright I've looked through the folders, and looked at the stickied custom planets tutorial, but my question is this. Since I've found my custom race in the my documents folder, will the game still know the changes I've made. I usually attempt to back it up instead of changing the orginal file itself, but I can't do anything with out changing the file extension from .racconfigurationxml, to just .xml. when I make that change I can't find how to change it back to .raceconfigu
