A surplus of speed gives you the advantage to be able to choose the fight, so just evaluate beforeahead if you'll win and if not so, flee. A slow fleet never has this choice so its about win/loose vs win/survive the latter being the better option. Of course this is not true for each scenario, for example, defender type of ships that are designed to shield a world from invasion don't benefit from that. But in

Didn't consider the custom speed bonuses. Perhaps reducing the cost slightly would help? I'll have to see what can be done about the Gravity Accelerator.
Space Superiority is the Terran tech, right? Doesn't it grant some logistics ability and maybe weapons? I don't even remember where ADT belongs, or who has it, so it's hard for me to comment off hand. My overall philosophy is "no space techs", so any tech sitting around doing nothing was an oversight on my part.
Actually I made a mistake. Space super

"Galactic Civilizations III" Has a nice ring to it, and wasn't difficult at all to come up with.

You'll have to re-register it after doing so, though, and maybe re-create some registry entries. I know, 'cause I've done that. Of course I have not done that with a Steam version of the game so I dunno, you may not be able to do that.
&n

The original disks I bought are buried in storage, so I was looking to purchase the Ultimate Edition, figuring that such an old game would be dirt cheap. The only problem is that Steam seems to be the only (affordable) way to buy it, and I don't do digital downloads. I need a physical disk. When I emailed Stardock sales and asked them about a physical copy, they said that they only do digital downloads now. That's crap. What happens in ten years w

Hi. Sorry if I'm misunderstanding you, but it sounds like you might be unaware that the latest expansion (Twilight of the Arnor) introduced a ship designer that's independent of the actual game. If you haven't played in a while, you might have missed it. Anyway, there's a "Ship Designer" button on the start up screen in between "Tournaments" and "High Scores". It's just like the shipyard ingame, but you have access to all hulls,

No defenses = no bonus, one Titanium Armor = full bonus in all defense categories. Thanks. Though, I was actually hoping, you'd forget. I just don't like getting congratulated. Still, it was a bit better. I made a small giveaway contest over on GOG.com and it actually went quite well. Last December, I finally released my mod (though I

Hiya hiya hiya! It’s been a year and boy has this thread gotten fat! Glad to see you’re still alive Tolmekian. I finally got around to playing v3.0, and in addition to this lousy T-shirt, I also got these lousy comments… I keep running into galactic achievements and trade goods and junk that I’m used to ignoring, and finding that they now kick ass. Great job pimping the Orbital Terraformer for example. &nbsp

I haven't been playing at all because I was waiting for this one! Looking forward to seeing a topless Elyes Mue. Anyhow, thanks!
In my final tests I've been bothered by gross under-performaning by the Arceans and Iconians. The Iconians can sometimes do pretty well if left alone long enough, but develop way too slow and usually get steamrolled before they can recover. The Arceans, on the other hand, are perpetually pitiful, miserable, pathetic, etc. I've been trying to fix them by tweaking things here and there, but finally decided that drastic ac
I too made it a trade good. I guess the free Survey Module thing is hard coded, but I added a +1 speed bonus. The description is something like: Detailed sensor data allows our ships to plot the most efficient courses, increasing speed by 1 pc/week. It makes sense as a trade good, leaving it up to the owner whether or not to share that data with others. I guess I should just say it now so as to get all the prot

I'm not sure how much time and effort I can spend worrying about total balance, but I will tackle at least the obvious shortfalls. Offhand, I'm thinking of the Hall of Empathy, or whatever it is that doubles the chances of someone surrendering to you. It's a Galactic Achievement unlocked by a very advanced tech, but falls far short
Being good does get you a diplomatic bonus with other good civilizations. It's never been quantified, but I know that I have a much easier time getting alliances when playing good then when playing neutral or evil (unless I'm the Terrans, in which case alliances are a breeze no matter the alignment). Oi Tolmekian, I just wanted to jump in here to say that the stuff you've got cooking for the new update looks great! I hope you didn't take my whining about the SPH too seriously - it was just one of many galactic super deals that I never build (like the Omega Defense Salami). Though it sounds like nobody else was building them either. Anyway, good stuff all around. I always wondered about those extra weapons and defenses that Neutral was suppo
You get 10% from the tech and another 10% from the SPH itself. I never actually built the thing, but right-clicking on the icon when you’re looking at the tech tree just shows that it gives a +20% morale bonus.

Gaunathar & Tolmekian, (Sorry, I don’t know how to do that multi-quote thing, but check this out…) Regarding the Secret Police Headquarters – I mistakenly compared it to the Restaurant of Eternity (which is, in fact, awesome). What I meant to compare it to was the Galactic Resort (which I feel is pretty lame). It looks like the Secret Police Headquarters actually gives less of a morale bonus than the Resort, though you do get t

Hey again (again) Tolmekian. Sorry it took me a week to respond, but better a wall of text later than never, right? First off, let me just start by saying that I am totally, 100%, completely naked right now. Second, I think I forgot to mention before how much I love this friggin mod! It’s like playing a whole new game! I think it’s what ToA was SUPPOSED to have been all this time, instead of the broken turd they left in a flaming bag on our doorstep.&

Hey again Tolmekian. It’s been a couple of weeks and I’ve had a chance to play a few games using your v2.0 mod so I thought I’d throw some feedback your way. You know, because I’m a helluva guy or whatever. Anyhow, I’ve rounded up all my notes and hopefully at least some of this will be useful to you. Oh yeah, it’s long, so I hope it fits in one post and I hope it doesn’t hurt your eyes… Right, so

Oh I'll definitely try the mod out - I just haven't had time to play for a bit. Also, I didn't mean to come off as though I was complaining about free stuff on the internet, so I'm sorry if that's what it sounded like. As I said I was a big fan of the earlier version, and not just the improved AI performance, but a lot of the other fixes too. For instance, the new arrangement of the farm techs is far and away

Hey Tolmekian. Never posted in these forums before, but I'm a big fan of your ToTA fix v1.1. Last night I downloaded v2, but I haven't installed it yet and now that I read your notes a bit more closely, I'm wondering if I should. See, I like stuff like Warp Bubbles and Tulan Waffle Irons and all that. And even though the AIs won't make proper use of these tech tree branches, I say screw them. I'm not hardcore enough to exploit an
