I play with surrenders on - General Homsar has stated the reasons very well. I dont particularly enjoy the last bit of a war, once it is no longer competitive. Also, it increases the challenge of the game when a no longer viable race gives their stuff to another race. I have just had the nice outcome in my game of an ally surrendering to me while we both battled the Drengins. Smashed my economy to pieces though! [e digicons]:grin:[/e]

And its only really worth building up population on your income worlds, as the population level does not affect production AFAIK - ready to be corrected on that point if i am wrong.

Agree, a great little development - you can always upgrade them to a stock market once population is as high as you want it, although they are still useful for rebuilding population after loading up a troop transport.

In the first Gal Civ I actually had my butt saved playing as 'Good' humans when a religious event caused over half of the powerful Drengin empire to revolt and convert. I enjoy the Mega events, and they add a story type element to the gameplay, as well as throwing in an extra challenge. I even had the Jagged Knife event and still won an influence victory despite losing a third of my systems - just as well minor races dont have influence zones!

I wonder if anyone else takes the approach to designing races that i do , which is to draw on other sources and try to replicate them with the Gal Civ 2 engine. The MOO 2 races are one source. Another that i did was the Prador from Neal Ashers excellent Polity novels. With the prador i took the following approach. They are an effectively violently aggressive Insect race that enjoy eating the flesh of sentient races. They are renowned for the toughness of their ships. They have
