1. I've always wanted to see "missions" for the flagship, and since Elemental is implementing quests as a major part of the game, it should be easy to transport that design over to GalCiv3. 2. I've been playing Sword of the Stars, which is a vastly inferior 4X game, but one really cool thing about it is the way each race not only plays different, but has different sound effects and speech, etc. It's almost like the interface is different for each race. I'd
EtherLords 2, Nival Interactive. If you can find it. This is an animated card game, quite well done. It was never popular in the US for some reason. I really liked it. Ride around on a top level map. Enter special arenas for combat. Spell cards, ether, summon evil cabbages, snakes, bees ... you know the drill.
I had a great time with Etherlords 2. It was fairly brief, but fun while it lasted. A nice copy of the Magic CCG.
Heroes of Might
Since it seems like there will be at least one more update to GalCiv2 before it's put to rest, could I make a suggestion? I'd like to have the option to make minor races part of the victory condition. In other words, they would need to be conquered, allied with, or won over by influence in order to acheive victory. It seems like it'd be as simple as adding the option to the new game menu. Is this feasible? And does anyone else have a suggestion that could be easi
Getting upset about cannon mistakes is asking for high blood pressure, because Trek is soooo full of them. Just watch the Youtube videos that catch a lot of them. One minute Chakotay is a vegetarian, the next he's not, etc. Just search Youtube for Star Trek Mistakes. There's a 5 part series showing all the faults in the cannon.
Quoting Zyxpsilon, reply 12 However, the episodes with Shran were some of the best Trek ever! -- Pig skin, NOW you owe me! And Bang, Kzinti "DeathStar like" weapon destroyed. Shran was one of the best Characters in Enterprise. That actor also played weyoun in DS9 I just loved it when he got killed regularly and always came back smiling LOL [/
@Solam: Flox was a great character. I also liked most of the Enterprise crew and even Archer. I think what was hardest for me was watching "old tech" look so brand spanking new and shiny. It just seems weird to think that everything we saw on ENT was looong before Kirk and Spock. I know it's a matter of our limited filming tech and the fact that it changes so rapidly. But ENT just didn't have the Star Trek "feel." The middle 3 series created such&nb
it says that the serial will be sent to me next week
Yeah, that happened to me too. I read somewhere that it has something to do with the high volume of sales over the weekends. I guess they must need to request more from the publisher or something. Definitely a bummer, but worth the wait for saving $22. BTW, once you do get your serial you can go to the Fantasy Wars website and DL the map editor for free. Also, there are no patches
I had another good idea: missions should reflect upon your allignment as well. For instance, Drengin planets would most likely offer evil missions, Alatrians would offer good, Korx-neutral, etc. That way, the missions you choose to perform would alter your allignment just like the planetary events do.
I've always felt that the flagship should be much more important than it is. It's nice that anomalies respawn now, which gives the flagship something to do for the entire game, but it seems like a ship that mirrors the Enterprise or another species representing ship should have some important things to do. What I'd love to see is: --Missions! Flagship stops at planets and picks up missions (sort of like Puzzle Quest) where they can get a reward for transporting a dip
Thanks for the comments everyone. It's just what I was looking for. :)
Quoting from the article: "For some, their presence on the list is a simple matter of having released nothing but great games that elevated their reputation from mere mortals to legendary beings. For others, it might be one moment that redefined what it meant to be a PC Gamer." (My emphasis) I think that Stardock could definitely fall under the one moment category at least. GalCiv2 redefined what expansion packs should be, and the gamers bill of rights is
Are there any amateur astronomers in the know that would like to hazard a guess as to the most realistic settings for starting a game of GalCiv2? I know that the game describes the map as representing folded space and is not meant to be a realistic representation of actual space, but the travel distance is still the same either way. So how many asteroids, anomalies, planets, stars, etc. would there be?
Cool. Can't wait!
I can't figure out how to get the GalCiv2 Desktop Theme from the new Ultimate Edition (which is great BTW!). Has anyone figured out how to do so? It's advertised on the box, but I find nothing on either disc or on Impulse. Thanks for any help.
True, in the long run, I think Michigan will benefit from these tough times. MI has always been a one trick pony in terms of economy (lumber, mining, autos, etc.). Now we have the chance to diversify the economy, which is a good thing. Putting all your eggs in one basket by depending on one major industry to fuel an entire state is never a good idea. So it's nice to see movie industry incentives and other incentives to bring in other industries. By usin
Sins and Demigod have had extensive advertising in PC Gamer. I mean to the point that it seems every issue just has them for months now. Those games weren't produced 100% by SD, but still.
So here we are, one day from release, and SD still has not given any info on the US Ultimate Edition of GalCiv2. Is it really even shipping tomorrow? Why the secrecy? Wouldn't it be prudent to, oh I don' know, advertise a retail release so as to sell some copies? Just a simple post on the site would be nice. What gives?
I just found this by accident really. Amazon has a page with box art set up for Galactic Civilizations 2 Ultimate Edition complete with both DA and TA to go on sale Feb. 10th. It's going to sell for $39.99, which makes me wonder if we'll see a price drop on Impulse for the expansions. I've really wanted to get them for a long time now but couldn't come up with the 45 bucks. Since the Ultimate Edition will be a boxed copy with the expansions, I'd like to see t
As a new player, I'm only beginning to discover the great moments that occur from time to time that make GalCiv2 so special. I'd like to hear everyone share some of their greatest moments, whether they're noobs like me or old veterans that have logged in a few hundred hours. I'll start things off: 1. Playing as Korx for a peaceful influence win, I gave a couple of my largest ships to my two allies and proceeded to watch them hammer the Terrans who had been testy
I'm reading this from Gamefaqs right now and it's proving to be very helpful. It could very well be the only resource a noob could ever need. Kudos to the author: http://www.gamefaqs.com/computer/doswin/file/925349/46577 There's one more strategy guide posted there that looks promising, though I have not read it yet: htt
I'm still a little foggy on how the whole planet flipping thing works. I've done it a few times and it was totally exciting, but I'd like to understand the minimum amount of maxed out influence bases necessary to flip. I keep reading about a magic number being 4, but I'm not sure if that means 4 times their influence or just 4 influence or what. What you typically see is the planets IP followed by your IP in the parenthesis. Example: 21.00IP (14.75). So do I unde
I suppose ferrying would also be the more ethical way of unloading folks off of an overpopulated planet other than mass genocide by cutting a farm. I kind of wish there was some penalty for doing that, especially if your shooting for diplomacy or influence. And then conversely, a bonus for safely moving people to a new home. It would truly be awesome if you could create tourist vessels that transport your people to another civ's worlds and give
Thanks for the reply, Sole Soul. I dare say if you were a paragon of humanity and embodied the sentiments of every person who has ever played this game or who will ever play it, I would concede that I have been wrong. Fortunately you are not a paragon, and I feel comfortable in disagreeing with you. Learning how to play this game would be easier and more interesting with a well-done tutorial scenario.
Solipso, you sound like an intellegent person and I guess I have a ha
I was wondering . . . I have the GOTY edition. If I buy the Gold edition with DA, will I be able to install onto my GOTY edition without reinstalling DL from the Gold edition? Is it on a separate disc? Or should I just simply not bother and DL from Stardock?
There are things in PC games that simply don't exist on consoles: the strange dark magic hidden in sub-menus and lengthy text descriptions, the obsessive geeky masterpiece. But it goes the other way too, some games are meant to be played split-screen on the sofa.
This is why I love PC gaming. I'd say console games are roughly 90% reflex based, whereas PC games are typically more cerebral. I like to think when I play, not just twiddle my thumbs. [quot
