By the time things like terror stars become an issue I'm usually light years ahead in the tech race in every game I play. I have found them useful sometimes. Their best use is blowing up barren systems that noone has planets in since you can turn that colonization resistant rock into very nice asteroids. Terror stars are also nice if the enemy has 3 or so planets in a single system and a lot of population. The key is building the star right near the system so its only a few turns away fro

Also how many starbases do you have along the route and are you Krox (I think thats how the spelling goes)? I mean if you have 2-3 starbases along the route along with trade bonuses it is quite possible to get routes in large galaxies that bring in hundreds of credits per turn. I still have learned that trade is usually not the way to go for money, getting stacking econ bonuses is the key for that. With the Yor and some tech trading its quite possible to get 20k+ a turn on a large map with

I have found that unless you get into the REALLY late game its very easy to destroy the computer to the point where it almost feels like armor stacking is an exploit. I have used one ship with just 12 armor and 2 (yes 2) damage to take out an entire mid game armada. The computer, predictably, ignores armor until late in the game and just busts out 6 damage of one type ships with at most 1 or 2 in defense if you want long enough. This means that even in a long one ship vs fleet fi

I have to say the idea of not buying ships to get quick colonies has one significant flaw, at least in large+ maps. If you don't take planets enemies will and in the mid game they will destroy your economy and research capability. I have had the most success with buying at least one and usually two colony ships in addition to the original ship. Then I use those ships plus the survey ship to look for habitable planets (while now building colony ships with my planets). There should be at le

Personally I find piracy far less acceptable for games then for say...songs or TV shows. I still have yet to pirate any software other then earlier versions of photoshop (what 15 year old high school student is going to have 600 dollars to pony up for version 6?), it just makes a lot less sense then buying the game especially after direct2drive and stardocks impulse make it way easier to install and play normally. The bane of my PC playing existence is losing CDs and needing them in the drive
