Um, I think you mean indigenous. Indigent means something else. And yes, Bio-spheres mean something different than the Genesis Wave. It was just idle fancy that made that line of speculation interesting. As far as TERRAforming is concerned, we humans are so parocial. We see everything from the "Human" perspective. In Astronomy, Stars are called "SUNS" and distances are based on AU's (the distance from the Earth to the Sun), etc... I find it funny. So why should video ga
Funny thing happened the other day. I live in Phoenix, and it was 108 deg. outside. So I fiqured I'd chew a piece of Dentyne Ice and a sheet of ice would envelope me, a minor blizzard would show up and a really hot chick would pick up on me, and I would have a great day. It always happens that way in the ad right, and we know ads don't lead us on, truth in advertizing and all that. And yet, no ice, no blizzard and even worse no hot chick. Just one fat sweaty old me with crappy gum, and ye
Um, resistance is useless? :CONGRAT:
And dont limit yourself to just one tech with Minor races. As usually they only have one planet, go in and trade your techs for theirs, including all the cash they have. Then hit them with your prepositioned forces in the same turn. Can be very lucrative. Its a "dog eat dog" Galaxy RegardsZy
Man, that is SO EVIL. I like it. :)
LOL. What an excellent idea. THANKS. :)
The Purple suns have, in all of the DL games I played and all of the TA betas, had a PQ18 or better planet in the system regardless of where the purple sun was located. The standard yellow suns seem to have the normal placement of planets with some worth more than others regardless of their location.
I can't speak with definition, but I have seen a lot of Purple Sun's with no Planets above PQ0 in a lot of my games. And certainly I have seen a lot of Purple suns without a
Hi! First 5 SBs are free, for the rest you pay. So it is wise to remove "unused" SBs ...snip...or influence ones, after they did convert all planets in its range).BR, Iztok
I have always wondered about this? If I flip a planet, once I remove the SB, does that increase the likelihood of it flipping back?
I really, really, really dislike the way the Ascension Victory is handled. For one thing, what is the big deal about Ascending? _Why_ do all of the other races hate you for Ascending, and are willing to go to war just to stop you? Stop and think about it: You have a substantial empire encompassing quite a few heavily developed worlds. Your race Ascends and ALL of your people turn into some kind of energy beings, able to roam the galaxy at will. The galaxy that remains behind no longer has
So yeah, you get more ships as time goes on. I am not sure what it is based on but in the early game, you get 10-20 ships. By about mid-game I am getting ~ 100. As far as upgrading them, it is prohibitively expensive to upgrade even a small number of ships to anything like what I would need. Imagine that, at the time I am talking about in game, I usually have Plasma III or higher beam weapons. These ships have three Laser 1. If I made no other changes, that would be ~1000 per shi
I've got mixed feelings on this.Remember Star Trek III? (I think that was the number; the one before "Search For Spock".) The Genesis Project: Turn any world into a Paradise planet. Now, in the movie, they made the system flawed so that it eventually collapsed in on itself. But imagine if it had NOT been flawed. That would equal PQ 72 in GalCiv. The real challenge would be to keep it _out_ of the hands of your opponents (as in the movie)...snip...
So I like this. I have
I wanted to get everyone's thoughts (or maybe I am doing something wrong?). I play Drengin's a lot and so I have started to notice the Dominator Fleets as a mixed blessing. Allow me to explain. In the early game, when you declare war on some happless unsuspecting, soon to be slave, neighboring civilization, it is great to have a fleet of Super Dominator ships to suddenly show up on your doorstep. This helps bolster your fleet and allows you to send out basical
I don't foresee myself ever building a terror star, but i can offer the following plausible solution.plan in advance where you want to strike, then design constructors to have the range and speed to arrived to that destination within a turn, also have the max logistics capabilities researched. ALso, count how many total constructors that is need to build a terror star from start to finish.Instead of building a terror star from a destination afar, have the constructors all arrived in a fle
I built terror stars for the first time yesterday. I admit I built them simply because I could. My impression was, it was really awesome to see the devistation, but very little more. I will comment, related to the OP, that I was playing a game where all planets within a certain range got converted to 9+ quality planets, so invading all of my opponent's planets would have been quite an undertaking. So I destroyed 4 star systems (all with 4 or more populated planets, each) and invaded
So I don't understand how this is a Fun killing bug. Sure it is a bit unbalanced, or is it? It would seem to me that, by the time you researched and then built/demolished/rebuilt the same advancement to the degree described, there are MUCH better, more interesting, quicker and fun ways of winning. Or am I wrong? Seriously, it is kind of like saying, I can increase my chances of winning the loto by purchasing ten million tickets. Best simply to ignore, or only use once or twice.
If you see it more as a Re-fit, it makes a lot more sense. Most of My upgrades are from Mark1 to Mark2. Same hull structure but different weapons/engines/defenses. If you want to draw the analogy further, you can say that all basic ship designs are similar at their core. They all have hulls of a particular design and specification. They have many of the same systems etc... Then it is simply a matter of using the basic underlying stuff to build the new ship. One more stab
One thing I would like to see is, on the tech trading, something that allows you to see exactly what you are getting. I generally only play Terrans and Dengin, so I am most familiar with their individual techs. When I go to trade with another race, I am more or less at the mercy of the tech title as to what I am getting. I therefore can't accurately evaluate what I am getting vs what I am giving. Yes I know that there is galactipedia and I can simply play all of the ra
In the beginning, I didn't like the fact that I needed to create my own ship designs. i wanted the game to just give me appropriate ship designs for my tech level. Obviously that didn't happen, until ToA. Now I am so used to building my own ships, I just do it myself. And I can usually pick out a shell that fits my mood. There are ships similar to Star Trek (including Enterprise and Defiant), and there are ships similar to Babylon 5 (including some nasty ones owned by the dreadlor
I agree that the "Best" weapon for the job is the one that your enemies don't have a defense against. I have noticed that, in ToA, there is more variation in weapons/defenses amongst the different races. So I will routinely poll the other races and research what weapons to best choose and what defences to best pursue. It is great when one race racks up heavy shields (for example) only to get taken down my by small ships with guns or missles as weapons.
Thanks. This is a big help. I found myself having the same frustration as the OP on this. I usually only work with a couple of different designs during any one game, and like to keep up-grading the same ship. Although I don't generally forget what components are on the previous version, I prefer to either add or upgrade existing components in a one to one capacity. The fact that everything gets stripped off was an annoyance too me. Thanks again StarDock for making a fully c
I see it kind of two ways. On the one hand, with today's technology, we are already able to identify (what we think are) planets around stars. So, logically speaking, by the time we are actually colonizing them, I would think that we would be able to see planets, at the very least, in the local group. And since the mini-map reflects this, why not show it on the larger map. On the other hand, if the mini-map represents what our stellar cartographers can descern, and the main
...While the game is defiantly fun, ...
Please assist. How is the game "Defiantly" fun? It defies you to have fun? You have fun in defiance of the probabilities? You play from the bridge of the Defiant? LOL. Seriously, it sounds reasonable. I always seem to have a blind spot where the mini-map is concerned and just go blindly exploring, usually scoping for anomalies rather than planets.
Yeah, Jagged Knife hit me last night. But the up side is that it hit my nearest neighbor as well. So I ended up getting a planet for free without going to war with my neighbor. Ain't life grand?
It's not a Drath agent that did that no. That's just a random event that can be triggered by galactic peace....)
Yes. The Assassination is a random event that can happen even if the Drath aren't in game. I was simply being creative and drawing an imaginary line of supposition. Sorry.
