cannot get to register in Bug Reports GalCiv2 Forums

Good day I am having problems putting in my serial number for galactic civilization 2 the dread lords collectors edition. I bought the game and installed it on my p.c but when i try to update game stardock central pop up and tell me i have invalid serial number that it doesn't match my email. the number I'm using is from the cd case it come in so i don't understand. does it mean i can only update it if i buy it online? I don't know what to do so can anyone help me? <br/
