I would like to see the Dread Lords appear in my first game, or the Dread Lords and the Pirates appear in the same game, at same time, at the same place. I suppose the Dread Lords will whip the Pirates but not before they seriously stall the DLs' progress. It would also be laughable to have them appear late in a long game where everyone has nearly maximized their tech trees. Until today, the most powerful ship I had seen was a Dread Lord Battleship with 388 Beam attack, 60 Gun attack, n

In reality, stealth aircraft do that. In GC2, it would be more accurate if, upon initiation of space combat, those weapons bays pop open, the weapons pop out, and it's battle on. Then, if the stealth ship successfully wins the skirmish, the weapons would retract back in, the bays would close, and the ship would become semi-transparent again.

HI. I'm new to the game, and I'm amazed at how bonuses can send ship ratings so high over the top(Hyperion Shrinkers, Racial Bonuses, Political Party bonuses). What exactly does First Strike do? I know the attacker gets to deal the first round of fire. Does First Strike mean that if you attack the Arceans, they still get the first shot despite being the defender? If yes, than how does extra speed counter this, since that just allows you to attack them from farther off? Also, wh

If you choose the Good Alignment, you can build the Hall of Empathy Galactic Achievement which supposedly doubles the odds that other races will surrender to you. I don't know if it actually works, though.

I'll be playing with tech trading on. Hopefully Super Diplomat will give me a boost in this. Yes, I will be doing technology resale for a profit, and also to facilitate fast switching of armament in case I ever need a different kind of defense or get a chance to grab Psyonic weaponry from an evil AI. Anyway, the AI-to-AI tech trade ability would get reduced later in the game with less AIs on the map. I don't want to be going up against Yor Battleships using Doom Rays and Aereon Missile

I hate that bias of only allowing effing Plasma and above beam weapons to have special abilities. The damn things can't get past a simple energy shields, how do you expect them to penetrate an atmosphere and melt a whole planet? If they do, the planet should crumble and solidify into mine-able asteroids, so that the player gets some gain from them. Missiles from Harpoon and above should therefore be able to nuke a planet and crush it to asteroids, and Mass Drivers above Singularity Driver should

"I am impressed peskyfly. Not bad for someone who hasn't actually played the game yet. Now, thats doing your homework!" Thanks. I've been doing this planning as to not suddenly land in the galaxy, not know what to do, and then get eaten by some Drengin. Also, I find designing ships to be fun, especially when you have to do the calculations manually. This lead me to search for the technologies required to get the components to design my ships, ending up with me 'researching' the

For a Technological Victory, AFAIK, you must have an economy strong enough to keep your cash-thirsty Neutrality Learning Centers running, a military force(either yours or allied) strong enough to hold off jealous rivals, and enough counter-agents to stop espionage attempts against your NLCs. It is possible to get an accidental protectorate by letting Pirates destroy all your ships , and thus giving them space in which to hover around and destroy anyone who attacks you. These rogue

Meh... that last proposal looked largely complicated. One question(to Kryo): Why do we not have carriers(Star-Destroyer type), yet we have Terror Stars? What do Terror Stars add to the game other than the ability to go on a very slow(1pc/wk slow) genocide-followed-by-asteroid-eating session?

Cloaked ships' existence beyond a certain range would just appear to be in the form of a blank parsec, and they would appear to be a blank parsec until they close in to that range. Eyes of the Universe can detect normal ships at 15 parsecs away, but, lets say an example stealth ship has a stealth rating of 8. Then, Eyes would only be able to see it from 7 parsecs away. Okay, so the deception idea is a bit complicated. A dreadnought appearing to be a freighter would be a huge, huge threa

"when you have the intelligence of a human player" I am a human player! A Terran, not a fly! I don't plan on playing Metaverse, at least for a few months. I'm going to stick on with Missiles because I just don't like the beam weapons in GC2. And anyway, with missiles, it makes sense that they can fly in any direction irrespective of the launcher's heading, while beams will fire out of th

I'd do it a little differently. Instead of having a class of "cloaking devices" that you can put on your ships, make it a line of techs for stealth technologies and electroninc warfare. Initial devices would be simple sensor jammers and such, while the more powerful instances would be outright cloaking devices (or perhaps even devices which shift a ship into an alternate dimension!) Every component that this technology yields will becomes

"Star bases are not designed and built like ships, at all. One generic constructor ship goes to the SB, and becomes an SB module." I know that. "You choose which available SB module type from a drop down menu. Each SB module type is added once and only once." I didn't know that. Nevertheless, you can have 3 military starbases, and attach a Stellar Wake and an Inverse Tractor Beam to each one to have a total boost of 6 pc/wk. If it works on a Terror Star(I hope it does

Neutral gets Neutrality Learning Centers for fast research, Neutral Shipping for those who like trade(like me), totally free terraforming(no tech required) and discounts on core ships(which can be used to buy them cheap and sell them to other races at higher prices). Neutral ethical choices have hardly any or no effect on the game at all. Evil gets the ridiculously overpowered Psyonic Beam, the similarly exaggerated Psyonic Shredder, the comparatively tame Psyonic Missile, and those afo

If there are only two civs alive, each has only one planet and both of those planets are in the same system, then if one civ blows up the solar system with a Terror Star, who wins? I would say the above scenario would be almost impossible to happen, but what an interesting complication! Maybe whoever owns the terror star would win? (afterall there are probably many people on the terror star.) S

Yeah, Psyonic Beam is crazy with 12 damage(but Pysonic Shredder ain't far behind). It doesn't apply for me since I'm going to play Neutral, and I can build Neutrality Learning Centers which will allow for faster research required for missiles and armor, provided my economy can keep them running. Once you reach the top of the weaponry tree, the Black Hole Eruptor simply outclasses the Doom Ray. More power, smaller size, just 10 bc extra. Black Hole Generator has the best bang-fo

Will the Terror Stars be fleet compatible? If they are, it will be possible to move them along at higher speeds using 'tug boats' fitted with the new Driver component. Otherwise, if they're not 'fleetable', then it would just be too easy to stop them. At 1 parsec per week, a military starbase fitted with an Interdiction Beam module will be able to completely paralyze a Terror Star until it gets destroyed. I imagine them to be 20,000 bc wonder-modules that transform your humble military

Hello, I'm new to Galactic Civilizations and have only known about it for two weeks. After initially hearing about it, I looked into it and was impressed. I've ordered a copy of Gold Edition and will be getting it in early September. Meanwhile, I've thoroughly learnt the game concepts by reading these forums and the DL-centric wiki, and reading every Game Example and non-story AAR I could find. I've got a strategy for my first game planned out: ________________________________ D
