^If you build Eyes of the Universe, it may be beneficial to not put many sensors on your ship and would be very useful to track the Dread Lords. Sensors don't even cost much to research. And Eyes, being a Galactic Achievement, gives you a points boost.

Big mistake pesky. Don't sell your starbases. Too valuable. And never give your opponent military ships unless its a situation where you must. What's wrong with selling them unarmed economic starbases when I still get the same benefit? And since when did selling freighters become selling warships? What if your trade routes are maxed out and you CAN'T use those freighters to make trade routes? BTW, I'm not gifting, I'm selling. And as far as sel
This is kind of pointless. If you had such a powerful fleet, you could rather hold off your attacker, and if your attacker is so powerful that you're bound to lose your last world, then they can just chase you down on your new world and obliterate your race. What you can do is start spamming scouts and transports and go on a capture-run, taking all undefended planets in a Vasari-style endless exodus while your battle fleets desperately hold off your enemy. <img src="http://images.stardo
Currently, I play nothing! I'll be getting the Gold Edition box on the 3rd and I can only open it after the 18th due to exams. Once that all is done, I plan on playing DA sandbox first and then DL sandbox, followed by the DL campaign, and then DA sandboxes again until December when I'll get TA. After that, I won't be able to decide. At first, I liked DL better because of: - Better engines. - Better espionage system( in my opinion ). - Better campaign( once again, IMO ).
but weaker ships, where it's destroyed, but survives by "the strongest ship survives" rule What does this mean? Two 'buts' makes the sentence kind of hard to get. And what's singe? I also think the single-ship thing can be used with high-speed pure-attack hit-and-run ships which destroy soft targets and run away, in which case a fleet would be overkill. Many people recommend "just send one ship at a time" but
^That would make sense. Realistically, the trade ships would take goods from home, sell them at econ SBs and at the target planet, and come back towards home selling their remaining stocks, and thus be loaded with money by that time. Which is what actually happens in-game. Since supply for each freighter would be constant, and demand would be directly proportional to how long they're away from home, it makes sense that the traders can sell at higher prices the farther they, meaning more income,
No diminishing returns, at least for now. In fact, according to DA rules, trade routes become more valuable over time. Although, with the bulk of income being generated by the economic starbases, it diminishes the value of Galactic Privateer. The value of trade is greatest when planets are few and far between, like in the Large Galaxy / Uncommon Stars / Uncommon Planets / Abundant Asteroids / Occasional Anomalies / Tight Clusters galaxy setup I plan to play when my exams are over and I
^Weird bug. Do you get your money back through the sale of scrap metal, or do you just lose it? lol you can design your own. I shall. The Terran Constructor is the ugliest ship design the Terran Alliance has. Especially since they made it stubbier and fatter in DA.
Yeah, the Super Spy ability is kind of lousy, and for some reason, to me, religious-fanatic fish-headed aliens wouldn't really make good spies(Now wouldn't a fish-head really stick out in a crowd of Altarians?). Super Dominator also becomes worse and worse as the game wears on. As for the true best race, it's us - the human players. Adaptable to everything and able to win any kind of victory against any AI. <img src="http://images.stardock.com/gc2/T_DL/smiles/Wink.gif" border=0 align="a
Same question for science buildings: And do not make this a post on neutraliy learning centers, I am aware that there are special rules for them! What are the 'special rules' for Neutrality Learning Centers? I just thought that they were labs costing 300 SP to build and converted 22 bc into 22 RP every week, and can only be built by Neutral races. What's so special about that?
Wow. The Peacekeepers really sound like something big! What happens if the Peacekeepers, Pirates and Dread Lords all appear at once? Do they attack each other and result in a Galactic Clash of the Super-Factions? Seeing those combined fleet stats, it means that each of their frigates has these stats: Attack: 3 Missile Defense: 699 Armor HP: 231 Range: Infinite Speed: ???(How fast are they?) Also, what if they appear when everyone has maxed out propulsio
I zoned out around response #21 and skipped to the bottom here. To answer your question about buying and selling ships for profit, it can be done. In fact, I just finished an AAR with the Terrans (with no extra storyline, right up your alley!) at level Painful about how you can do just that. I actually built zero warships over the course of the entire game, simply bought, sold, and/or gifted ships around the universe. In fact, it was the highes
I'll probably be getting Twilight sometime between November and next February. The box art of Twilight gives a hint that maybe no one has ever found Arnoria because it was blown up by a Terror Star. I'd mainly buy Twilight for the Terror Stars, and the Legacy of the Telenanth backstory campaign. The new ship components offer little to give to the game and the unique race-based tech trees just make the player choose which race they want to be.
^No, no, by maximized , I mean that I'll add every trade module possible and leave the SB completely unarmed. I won't be arming any non-military SB. Starbases can't defend themselves in the long run. I don't plan on ever building Galactic Privateer either, so both the trade ships and the starbases will be targets. Instead, I plan on prioritizing propulsion technologies over defense systems in order to build fast offensive warships and keep a fleet to patrol the trade line d
What... miners flipping planets? What's this about? I didn't know that miners have influence like starbases do. I only knew that they can be flipped by influence like planets get flipped. Can you elaborate? And does the Space Miner ship, like Constructors, self-destruct upon construction of an asteroid mine, or does it build it and move on? Yes, I would already have got techs that I actually need through other methods rather than suffer the wait for those damn ugly Constructors to build
the smallest weapon will be a Quantum Torpedo 3 at 17 spaces, while on that same hull, an HD Spike Driver 3 will take up 21 spaces. pretty sure it doesn't actually work that way - now, anymore, as a result of rounding, something - but i'm 99.99% sure it doesn't work out that way. as i said i'm not a number cruncher; i'd double check real quick, but i'm at work - perhaps when i get home. one thing
The AI could simply be programmed to target Orbital Fleet Managers with priority over Galactic Achievements with priority over Super Projects with priority over normal improvements both when bombarding and when defending. It could choose between how to prioritize normal improvements by targeting those with a higher output over those with less. It's manner of handling bombers would just be the same as it's manner of handling transports.
I want STRATEGIC BOMBING from space. Attacking ground installations, with only collateral taxpayer casualties. No "genocide runs," because no genocide (or, at least, extremely slow, tedious genocide that might not exceed the rate of population growth). We could pretty much do this with 20th Century technology... why not in the future? I have an idea to make this rather easy. Players, at any time, should have the ability distribute the population
^Yeah, sporing out that Class 45 planet. What's the problem in sending in a fleet of fast transports, using Tidal Disruptors, and taking 45 tiles of land instead of spore-bombing the place out into a toxic world? Dread Lord population shouldn't grow at all according to the back story It must be the population of minions that is growing. Evil lords of all kinds always have loads of minions, right? T
The Dread Lords will become the big enemy later in the campaign. They have very few, but very high-tech ships that can destroy whole fleets of yours, and each single one of their soldier units can kill approximately 500 of yours(that's 500,000 of your people dead!). AFAIK, the thing is to set up an economy strong enough to withstand 4-to-1 losses. As for military, make very fast, purely offensive ships early on to destroy their troop transports, while avoiding their actual military, an
What? You actually to see what a Dread Lord looks like. AFAIK, they're only supposed to appear in the form of their flame logo. that's how they look in the diplo screens, but i swear i remember an ominous humaniod in a hooded cloak carrying a staff. Yeah, that's what they look in the Planetary Invasions too. Humanoids wearing red cloaks(but the planetary invasion screen
Strange, Dread Lord population shouldn't grow at all according to the back story. Only 100 of them were created by Draginol along with 1000 weaker 'Dread Knights'.
Darn, well, if they don't have cash, why not ask them to give something else, like starships or technology(or maybe even... planets)? 3 economic starbases ought to be worth at least SOME ships/tech. I plan to build 4 ESBs per trade-route sector, selling 3 and keeping 1, except for the sector containing my planet, in which case I'll mass the SBs at my planet and add some production modules as well.
i think you're going to find you're starved for cash, no matter your diplomacy value How? My idea is to make Earth( and maybe one more good PQ planet) purely tax-economic, extend trade routes to friendly races and militarily powerful races, cover those trade routes with economy starbases, sell those SBs to my trade partner and keep doing that over and over, while researching, and selling freighters/corvettes every so often until something happens that I
Why hasn't it been mentioned that you can just sell the econ starbases to your trade partner to at least regain some of the cost that went into building them immediately. Also, do you need an alliance and the UP law in order to benefit off your trade partner's SBs? If yes, is there any way to bring up a UP issue at will?
