Not yet. The autodesigned ships still seem to assume you have all miniturization techs, even at the start of the game, so they end up with more than the permitted number of components. Here's hoping this gets fixed soon, as it makes rather a mockery of ship design...
2) The forums ARE active. In general, anyway.
Not in any sense are these forums active. I've only just realised this thread is nearly two months old, and it's still on the first page. There only seem to be a couple of active threads a day per forum, which is practically dead in my book. Doesn't really give a lot of scope for discussion when it takes weeks to get a couple of responses. Is there another fo

I've hit a consistent CTD problem in my current game. When I end the turn the ship movement proceeds as normal, however the game crashes immediately afterwards, and before the start of turn messages show up. There's supposed to be a United Planets vote on that turn, and I think I catch a brief bit of the music for the UP panel as the game crashes, so I suspect that vote is the culprit. It always occurs on that turn, and nothing else I'm doing seems to have any impact on it. Anyone got any ide

1)The number one thing I'd hope for is a more streamlined starbase construction system. It gets really tedious in the later stages when you often want 15+ constructors for a single starbase, and a ton of starbases. How about a system where you can put each constructor you build in a "standby" mode. Then at each starbase you could have a menu which would list the available modules, and selecting one would automatically call the nearest constructor on standby to the starbase to build it. T

I usually pick on the weak civs - the ones that for whatever reason lost out in the colony race. They're usually way behind on tech, and their homeworlds are going to be valuable. I don't declare war that often. I just construct a military starbase with all the ship boosting bonuses right next to their homeworld and stockpile the necessary ships and transports. Almost invariably they'll trigger the war, even if it is suicidal. If they don't, I get to attack when I'm ready - which

Particularly in the early stages it does make ship design worse than useless. It's not quite so obvious once you accumulate more miniturization techs, and want more specialised ships, but even so it is a major bug that needs a fix. Yes the AI uses the same designs, but that's half the problem - either you don't design your own ships, or you give the AI a major miniturization bonus on top of what it's supposed to have on the difficultly level. Yes a human player can make better use of spe

It's a little curious - there is an indirect benefit because you can then sell the low level laser techs. Even more strangely the AI will still pay for say Laser 2, evern if you've already sold them Laser 5. As long as they aren't in the same deal the AI doesn't seem to care. I tend to end up picking up all the earlier techs eventually even if I do leapfrog them - they're just useful trade fodder.

It would be a very good idea to make the limit scale with galaxy size. When I can't even upgrade a tenth of one class of ships in my fleet in one go, it really gets stupid, and this isn't even on the largest map size. The penalty should alo come on more gradually - it should never exceed the amount I'm over the limit by, and shouldn't really come close to that. More to the point, why is this limit even necessary? If the player wants to stockpile cash - why not let them,

I agree with the OP on this one. Impulse really is unnecessary, and I find it more than a little intrusive. It also isn't very reliable - I had a ton of trouble with it because of some e-mail address not matching up or other. Every single time I have attempted to update Gal Civ 2, or download expansions, something has screwed up - whether its serial numbers, e-mails, registrations, or a ton of other odds and ends. It is for this reason I am always baffled by the claims this game has good supp

1) It's a bug, and a bad one that I've noticed as well. There's very little point in having a ship design screen if the defaults are superior to what it is actually possible to design. I've noticed there is a rather strange attitude that this bug should not be fixed for some reason. I could see the arguement for having the defaults be the best possible design with available tech (it surely can't be that hard to, for instance, get the computer to design a ship with the maximum possible a
Okay, so perhaps formiddable isn't the right word, but it's an order of magnitude better than stock DL AI.
I'm not too convinced of this. I've (literally) just upgraded from Dread Lords to both expansions, and if anything it seems easier. I didn't change difficulty, and I've had no trouble at all in my couple of the games I've played - whereas I was struggling with Dread Lords. I don't even know what half the new systems do - I'

Sorry, but patches are now only available via SDC. May I enquire why something as basic as patches to fix gamebreaking bugs are not available without unnecessary programs (which as others have pointed out function in a manner which is essentially spyware)? Why should I have to jump through numerous hoops, give an e-mail address and permit a spyware program access to my computer to get the game in a state which it should have been in when I purchased

Alright, my patience here is getting utterly exhausted. I have gone through the ludicrous system of serial numbers - being emailed new serial numbers for the collection edition, re entering serial numbers, downloading some stardock program, updating said program, and attempting to register Gal Civ 2. It is informing me when I attempt to do so that neither the serial number off the case, or the one e-mailed to me due to whatever rubbish is going on due to the collectors edition is valid. <br/
