ok... I'll update them once I get home tonight. My concern was more along the lines of it working perfectly prior to updating. Playing full games with 0 crashes...and now since updating it crashes on turn 6-8 everytime. Usually when I try and enter the timeline and graphs section. Anyway...I'll update and let ya know if that fixes it.

Game worked fine in the past. I played SINS for a while and now going back to GalCiv2 and after updating I get about 5 turns into the game and it crashes. here is the debug file. (This is DarkAvatar btw) Perhaps I just need a re-install? Debug Message: Version v1.80g Dark Avatar last updated on: Wed Dec 19 15:10:23 2007 Debug Message: Checking DX Version. Oh...I loved that one. The spyware that tells you that you have spyware and that you should download (for a minimal fee of $19.95 or whatever) the spyware removal software. I'm not exactly sure which one you have but as I recall they tend to embed themselves pretty deeply in your registry. The last time I got that one it was about time for a wipe of my CPU anyway (It is amazing how much of an increase in performance you get out of wiping and reinstalling!). Of course you have to have

I was curious about this question as well.... I'm a bit puzzled at times reading this board. I've only played three games so far, the first on "Normal" because I was scared reading the board about how "hard" the AI was...but it was really a cake walk (good to learn the game though). The next two games were at "Tough" and never really felt like the AI had a chance there either. But regarding scoring, both of my tough games have been 6 years on a Huge map (I think that is too l

YES! I have always hated the wormholes in GalCiv2, they are totally useless, I have my survey ships steer clear of them. I'm sure I'm not the first to use/mention this one, but there is one decent use of wormholes that I've found. Early on I'll equip my trade ships with a survey module so they can go through them. It's kind of fun because you never know where they are going to end up...but most likely it would have taken your ship many months to get t

Going by memory (don't have the game on this CPU): I believe the slider for DA 1.6 espionage is found in two places: (1) at the bottom of the screen in the economics tab that displays your research, military and social sliders (2) within the economics tab there is also a "espionage" setting which is the far right tab. That one will show you how many turns until your next spy is ready. I *believe* to gain "minimal infiltration/spying" you need to have 4 spies in total. 3 spie

No, this is not a bug. While the attack/defense numbers are important, it is also equally important to check your ATTACK and DEFENSE abilities (your percentages in the "stats" section) against your enemies ATTACK and DEFENSE abilities (I think you have to have the minimum espionage level to see these with the other civ tab). If they have a few military starbases (for example) and have a defense ability of 100% and your attack is only...say 25% then the numbers become: Your

One thing I've noticed with the upgrade function is you can be charged multiple times for the same upgrade if you aren't careful. If you click to upgrade a class of ship and within the same turn click to "Upgrade all ships of this type" or even click upgrade again it docks your treasury each time when done within a single turn. Seems kinda like a bug to me. You shouldn't be charged twice for the same upgrade.

Nope, the Expanded Universe won't be a free update (but it won't cost an arm or a leg either). Ah, finally someone from Stardock has mentioned "Expanded Universe"!! I'd have to agree with General Pants about the name though... Didn't GalCiv1 have an expansion pack with the same name? Seems kind of silly from a marketing standpoint to have two expansion packs named the same within a series. If I search "Galactic Civilization" + "Expan

I still have trouble believing that they would be planning a second expansion pack within a single year...and that they would name that expansion pack the exact same name as one that was released for the predecesor game (GalCivI: Expanded Universe was released sometime in 2003 I believe). See: https://www.galciv1.com/download.asp in which it says: "Galactic Civilizations 1.2 [Includes Expanded Universe expansion]" Having not played GalCiv1, perhaps I'm way off base here?

I'm going to wager a guess Expanded Universe = Multiplayer ... and it's listed as a 2007 release... nice I'm a bit new to the series...but doing a quick goolge search on "Galactic Civilizations: Expanded Universe" I find that this was a free expansion back for GalCivI. See the article found here published in 2003 for example: http://www.gamershell.com/news/9295.html It would seem odd that they would give the exact same name to an expa

Wow... This was a great post and I'm surprised there haven't been any responses to it. Clearly there was a ton of though put into it and I think some of the suggestions would be very helpful. These were the ones I agreed with the most: (11) Clickable lines on the civilization manager graphs. I've heard other people complain about trying to distinguish the lines and it is very hard for me since I'm colorblind. Other games with similar charts allow toggling lines on and off.

Not sure if this is a "stupid AI" thing or just a strategy it employs that I disagree with: Sacrificing engines on a ship to add more weapons. In my current game the Altarians noticed I was involved in a war with the Iconians and thought it would be a good time to flex their military muscle (about 2X mine) by declaring war. I was concerned until I noticed their strong battleships all were going only 3 parsecs per turn on a HUGE map. I have had plenty of time to circle around pic

Thanks Kryo... But why does a planet sometimes have the icon and sometimes not? A bug I assume?

8 Replies 7,182 Views

Wow?!? I figured this was a simple question. No answers? In terms of "unstacking" enduro..you can click "disband fleet" to break the ships apart.

8 Replies 7,182 Views

DOH! meant to say to the LEFT of the planet name is the icon I'm talking about. Which leads to another question: Can you edit your posts here?

8 Replies 7,182 Views

I hope this is a straight forward question and I can explain it correctly without having to do a screen cap: On the Galactic civilization manager (the spreadsheet): In the column that lists the planet names to the right hand side there is a shield icon which represents ships in defense. In that same column to the RIGHT of the name there is a planet icon..... what does that planet icon represent? Like I said, simple question.

Genre to be reborn: Soon enough turn based strategy games are gonna fit into this category. It seems they are dying (thanks Stardock btw, GalCivII is new to me, but enjoying it!!) Games to be reborn: Heroes of Might and Magic III--- turn based, fun battles, RANDOM MAPS...things that are missing in HOMM IV for sure (haven't check HOMM V yet) Stars: Good base game with crap for graphics. Dress it up with some nice spiffy new graphics and that could be awesome (although Ga

Your English was perfect Jochen (much better than my German ) Although graphics aren't what make or break a game to me by any means...in Aftershock they were so bad on the planet screen it felt like I spent my money on a game that was made 15 years ago... Looking at the screen shots for Afterlight; I'm concerned they are a bit "cartoony". In terms of gameplay: thanks for the in

I've generally enjoyed the UFO series. X-COM: Enemy unknown was perhaps the best game around when it was released in like 1993 and terror from the deep didn't disappoint (Microprose in general rocked). I've played the recent ones and some are much better than others. X-com: Apocalypse was great with the introduction of a CHOICE of real-time vs. turn based, while the X-com: Intruder was a completely different (although fairly enjoyable game) and X-com: Enforcer sucked on ice. With the

Not sure if this thread is still being read, and I apologize if someone already posted this suggestion. BTW: I'm pretty new to the game but I am enjoying it very much, so Thanks! Suggestion: The "good, neutral, and evil" alignments is a wonderful concept in this game. The idea that you discover ethical situations as you go to colonize a planet is great. My biggest problem is a blarring inconsistency in the game in which once you research "Xeno Ethics" (which I do fairly ea

Hmmm....perhaps I mis-stated. I totally understand the "fog-of-war" issue. Of course I can't see ships in "my area" if I don't have sensors on them. My question is more along these lines: I have a big border with the Iconians (sp?) and their ships could enter along many points but along the way I have ships with decent sensors to reduce my fog-o-war. When I hit "end turn" and one of their ships moves into my VISIBLE territory the game doesn't TRACK that ship (perhaps th

Relatively new to the game and it is starting to grow on me the more I understand about it. Won my first game on "normal" difficulty with ease using the influence method and never really had a long drawn out war or battle sequence. In my next game on "Tough" was lagging behind early and then fought my way up to the top/near the top in all categories (except military, oops) when I guess for some reason or another some lackey in my gov't thought it would be funny to assisinate the lea

Thanks for suggestion. FYI: I'm on a laptop and the drivers are updated to the latest (supported) NVida drivers. Thanks for noticing the screen res. issue. When I deleted the pref.ini the last time I neglected to switch it back to the monitors preferred widescreen resolution from the games default. Seems to have fixed the issue for now. Thanks again for noticing the monitor res. issue
