ok, so after a few reinstalls and updates i got it to run. apparently i can play the campaign, but if i try to just click on new game it crashes after getting to the loading screen. usually there is a hint on that screen, but the box is just empty and black and then crashes right before getting into the game Debug Message: Version v2.01 Dark Avatar last updated on: Mon Nov 24 16:26:43 2008 Debug Message: Checking DX Version. ok, so i uninstalled/deleted everything, reinstalled through impulse and i can run through the .exe or the launcher. only problem is now all the buttons are grey with no writing, and most of the options for creating the game or just the game options are not showing any writing.

so ive just noticed, if i run the DA .exe directly it runs v1.5, if i run the game through the launcher it runs v2.01 (which works fine). also, if i try to run the .exe it creates a debug.err in the game directory. when i run it through the launcher it creates a debug.err in my My Documents > My Games directory

so, i have a very strange CTD, ive been searching and trying different things all day. if i try to run the GC2DarkAvatar.exe directly, i get a crash after the intro video, if i turn off the intro in the ini file, it crashes almost immediately. i can run the dread lords .exe directly, i can also start the games using the launcher, but i prefer just double clicking then playing the game.
