Hi, this Community update looks great! However. I have the retail version of GCII UE, purchased March 2009, and when I swap the 2.02 exe file for the new 2.042 version the game won't start. Do I need to submit my old product key again? How I do that since so much has changed at Stardock between 2009 and now? -Y.

This is what I am doing too. I learned a few things... (I have Twilight of the Armor 2.02 that came in the Ultimate Edition) 1) As a starting point, review the Techtree.xml file found in C:\Program Files\Stardock Games\Galactic Civilizations II - Ultimate Edition\Twilight\Data\English. You can open it up in IE to see the code in red text and the data you can modify in black (between the >< characters). There are 362 techs in this file! (A lot of stuff to figure

I use MS Paint to play with the .png files, and to convert .jpg to .png with the right size attributes, though I'm sure there are better applications to do the job.

Tharios, I found an error, it is just a typo. A missing > An easy thing to miss when one is focused on many other details, lol. So: The first step in becoming a Type 1 civilization, increasing overall government efficiency. Should be: The first step in becoming a Type 1 civilization, increasing overall government efficiency. > I have

Hi, I've been following your work here Tol, and it looks very good. I have been working steadily on many things too, and I can really appreciate the time it takes to get things "right" -- that's on top of creating the new ideas and solutions in the first place! I am inspired... :) Oh yeah, testing in cheat mode is your friend!!

I found a few mp3 files with music of about 1:30 min long for the diplomacy window -- basically new race music -- and now with some new custom races I have some new background tunes while "talking to aliens". :D
Last thing, I swear. I took a stab at creating a new tech, and as far as the game is concerned, it doesn't exist. Here's what I did ... ...snipped... Now, this isn't representative of what I'm trying to accomplish, it's just an attempt to create a new tech. So all I'm looking for is whatever I may have forgotten or done wrong that would make the game ignore it entirely. &nbsp
Ok ok, I lied, there's more. Is it possible to alter or create Government types?
Yup to both. I made 6 new ones for my game. Have a look at PoliticalParties.xml and have fun! (Just be sure to back up the original of any files you tinker with.)

Hi, in reply to the question about changing Super Abilities, I believe they are hard coded -- I haven't seen anything in the game files on SAs.

Hello, I've lurking around these mod threads for a while. This topic caught my attention since I've just finished a huge spreadsheet on all the ToA techs, all trees, and I agree with the comments on the weirdness of AI Values, Category, and overall game performance. I've also analyzed the weapon info in a separate spreadsheet where I calculated space requirements of each weapon per damage point -- pulled from the GCTypes.xml file -- and then compared the research cos

Thank you for the news... Here's the really odd thing: I installed the first item, that Bonus Pack, and after registering I could resume a pre-patch game. No problems! And, when I looked at the lower left of the main menu screen to load a game I see "v1.4x"!!! So, since the game seems to work, a few minor problems with v1.2 seem to be corrected, I can only assume I made the correct guess. And that's the problem from the start: the Retail Update process is NOT CLEAR regar

Hello, I am frustrated by inexact info regarding updating my retail copy of Gal Civ II - Dread Lords. I bought my copy Feb 24/2007. It is version 1.2. When I look at these options, I have to guess what is appropriate to dl upon my v1.2 game. Galactic Civilizations II Bonus Pack: Enable Collectors Edition Content only (Windows 9x/2000/XP): Install Galactic Civilizations II Desktop Enable Collectors Edition (Windows XP or later): So, I gu
