Ah, forgot: dxdiag didn't find anything, and I updated the graphics card driver last week, before I got the game.

Hello everybody, I'm experiencing a problem during fleet battles: There are no weapon effects visible. That is, I don't see any laser beams or missiles. I *do* however see explosions and shield effects. It seems to be a problem with the textures. Checking the "Deactivate weapon/defense textures" option ("Waffen/Verteidigungs Texturen deaktivieren" in my German version) lets me see at least the effect meshes: white line "laser beams" and white, blocky "missiles". Ugly. <br/
