I'm not sitting at my vista machine right now, so I can't tell you the exact directory to search, but if I recall correctly, I seem to have found the debug.err doc, the exceptionlog.zip, and my game saves deep in my "documents" and "local apps" directories (not under ...\program files\...). These locations are different from what folks have been saying here on the boards. I guess vista is just that different.

I am working on installing the latest nvidia driver, 165.01. But because I have a geforce go, I have to use a modded inf. Thus far, laptopvideo2go currently only hosts an inf for 100.30. I tried installing the 165.01 nvidia driver using the 100.30 inf, and the installation appears to have gone fine; but my driver still reports as 7.15.11.30 with date 12/14/2006. The nVidia control panel version is 1.5.100.24. So I can't tell if the installation actually faied or if the 100.30 inf is reporting th

I can relate to how you feel. I am working with the same problem. Have you installed SmartException? It took me a while to figure out, but I am now submitting my SmartException log, my debug.err file, and my game save to the stardock developers. I'll bet that if enough of us submit evidence of the same problem, stardock with do something about it. Those of us using vista on dual core processors with nvidia cards are on the "bleeding edge" of technology, unfortunately.

Update: I started a new game. This time, I was playing through the campaign of Dread Lords. I played for several hours, then received this same error. The good news is that I finally found my debug.err file and smartexception logged a .zip file. I am sending them to the dev folks along with my game save now. For your interest, here is the debug.err file: Debug Message: Version v1.5 last updated on: Thu Jan 11 13:39:19 2007 Debug Message: GalCiv2 is activated. Debug Me

I also continue to have the same problems. I bought Dark Avatar, installed it, then installed the beta patch. My saved game still crashes at the same point. I have SmartException installed, and it caught the crash, but when it tried to save the exception .zip file, an error message popped up and said that the appropriate directory could not be found. I searched for the file on my entire system, but I could not find it. I still cannot find any debug.err file, either. I am the only user

I have exactly the same problem. I tried to fix it myself by updating my video driver, but that didn't work. Meanwhile, I cannot locate a debug.err file. I checked in the usual place and even searched my entire system, but I can't locate it. Is there any reason why GalCiv would fail to create it?
