The espionage system should be improved imho, then you wouldn't have to turn off the SA's to fully enjoy The Krynn.

Tech Victory is meaningful, as in you can win the game with it, but it surely takes a while. Sometimes you just want to win quick with Korath and their Sporeships. Different tastes for different people.
Zepp You need to have the specific technology to be able to build certain ships, but you can also create ships to be used in future games by saving their templates. Lets say you design a ship called "Stinger" which requires Singularity Driver II and Durantium Armor. It will then pop up in the list when you have researched your appropriate tech. You can also win a game without building a single military ship as well.

I'd pay good money for... Being able to recruit / find / rescue different characters/personalities to use as Governor on your different systems. Weapons with different range/speed etc A Tactical Combat option, so you can use formations, putting defensive ships in the front absorbing fire while the long range snipers / missileboats can stay in the back and fire as well as initiative. Beside each races superpower and their distinctive AI, they also have race-specific points assigned to a skill/ability. For example, If you create a custom race, you can never get as high research as the Altarians, since they have an innate research bonus, that you can add points to get to +75. I can definately see a difference in all the races and their behavior.
